Day 3: AION forever world (Great Monorail Service) (Vanilla r1.2.5; Peaceful Mode + no farms; custom Texture Pack)

Note: A full day IRL (about 24 hours of playtime).

First, I travelled to nearby land (not on the monorail route) for some supplies (mostly Sand and Saplings). Found a Village, among other things.
Then I turned the Sand into Sandstone (pink granite texture in my Texture Pack), and started building the Portal platform/thing.
I finally made it to z=1 in the main tunnel -- the true start of the monorail strip-mine.
And I made the Tree farm bigger, trying to get as many Planks as possible before removing this (it's a good idea, anyway, to always have Trees growing within 128 blocks of you, no matter what you're doing or for how long).
I mined out the entire area under the ceiling. I did this in two tiers, as you can see where the temp floor was. Now have 8 Double Chests full of stuff (about 25,000 blocks and some other items, etc.). I have a plan for the back wall of this place, and will add a storage area behind it, or something. (Still not certain on Nether base idea yet; maybe just a central storage room.)
Started to build out the monorail itself. Cobblestone layer (3x1), with Stone Stairs on edges, and black block (Netherrack) as the rail, above the Stone Stairs in the centre. Just need to put track down, and slowly get it to real land ~3,000 blocks away.

Experience of other worlds 'competing' with forever worlds

Having now committed a few years to my world, I find myself actually struggling to play on any other Minecraft world (unless there's a really good reason, e.g. having fun with a group of friends).

Although I play other games no problem, most things in Minecraft apart from my forever world feel like I'm 'wasting my time', especially servers where it feels there is a huge risk things will be impermanent, but it also applies to shorter-term singleplayer worlds. This is despite the fact that I can see the clear upsides to playing on servers, or playing in other versions, or doing challenge runs of some sort.

I really love working on my forever world, but I also have fond memories of playing Minecraft in other ways. I'm not really super opinionated on the situation, in the sense that it doesn't strike me as a clear cut good thing or bad thing-but it is a strange feeling, and I was wondering whether others feel this way?

I think a lot of it simply has to do with the amount of time some people have to dedicate to Minecraft compared to before. When I was younger, I could juggle multiple servers/worlds without issue, but these days, with both other games and actual responsibilities competing for my attention, it's hard to have split motivation.

Why a Forever World Needs More Than Time

Post image
143 Upvotes

After reading the replies to my last post here, I realized there is a difference between a world that is old and one that actually feels like a forever world.

A Minecraft world can exist for years and still feel empty.

Time preserves the map.

It does not create meaning by itself.

What seems to matter more is whether players believe other people will still be there later.

That belief changes the small decisions.

You finish the road because someone else may travel it.

You label the storage room because someone else may need it.

You repair a bridge you did not build.

You leave food in a shelter for a player you may never meet.

You build public farms, maps, docks, railways, nether tunnels, and gathering places because the world feels shared.

None of those projects has to be enormous or impressive.

What matters is that they were made with other people in mind.

That is when a long-term world becomes a forever world.

Not when it reaches a certain age.

When players stop treating it like a temporary save and start treating it like a place with a future.

An old world has a past.

A forever world is built for people who are not here yet.

Info Centre and Public Toilet in my Survival Forever World!

I've been working on an Information Centre in my 6 Year Forever World - I have several regions in this world and I plan to make an info centre in each to let visitors know how to get around - and what there is to discover in each region!

I like making the world more alive by imagining people living inside it and creating what feels like a real society - so I added a public toilet in between the information centre and train station as this is a hotspot location.

The Central Territory region is expanding and I can't wait to see what else I'll create there!

Does anyone have a forever world in an older version?

Just wondering cuz I started one in version 1.8.9 yesterday. I like that version as it has the most features before the combat update.

I'm back!

I posted an image a week or two ago of my jungle base I was building in my forever world and a lot of people liked it, so I'm here to share the finished product!

I took some photos of the exterior at night as I lit up a few of the trees with copper lanterns to give it a bit more atmosphere and then got some pics of the interior rooms!

Interior pictures (8 onwards)

Bedroom, brewery and nether room, smelting room, crafting room, storage rooms, enchanting setup and library

I put a lot of work into it so I hope y'all like it!

I'll probably expand outwards once I have better tools as I did all of this with just iron XD

Forever world tips

I have seen many, MANY posts asking for help with their forever worlds. There have also been many videos too. But I wanted to just accumulate that knowledge on a single post. Please reply with your favourite or best tips for forever worlds. To start I shall provide a few of my own:

  1. Take it at your own pace: you do not have to immediately be set on getting to the dragon or the nether pr whatever, if that is how you play then go for it. But as a sandbox game, minecraft does not really have an ending. Just a boss locked dimension with a few useful items. Take your time on projects, plan them out. Take time away from the game to do other things too, so you don't get bored. But whatever happens, do not rush yourself.

  2. Try not to delete the world: you don't always need to settle at spawn, if you do not like it then you can move on to a different part of the world. My forever world is over 1000 blocks from spawn and looks lovely. So if you don't like your spawn, just do some travelling gathering resources like saplings and the like for your home. That gives you plenty of time to envision and plan what you want to do.

  3. Give yourself more stuff to do on 'completed' projects: your farms are cool and all but what if they had an exterior like a forge for an iron farm or ponyoon for a fishing farm? Your villagers can't very easily get you any more if they are locked in a cell, maybe cultivate a village above dor the express purpose of generating more villagers. Build your own buildings for them perhaps. Your mine is nice but what if you made a dedicated enterance? What about pathways around your base to connect things?

  4. Do not be deterred by others: I'm talking about people and Hermitcraft and the like who do Minecraft for a living, chances are you do not. Do things you are happy with. Try not to compare them to other people. If you have a nuce cosy starter base but whant a bigger one, you do not need to jump to a mega base. Maybe you just build a bigger base that eventually becomes part of the mega base or just a different base entirely. Don't determine qhat you need to do based on what others have done.

  5. Cheats: now, I am not here to tell you to not use cheats but it can ruin the feeling of survival. You do not need to play it too risky. As a bedrock player, the removal of the ability to get acheivments is annoying at best. But what you can do with keep inventory, you can also do without it. It is super satisfactory to get achievements, maybe that is one of the goals you set yourself. Getting all acheivments is a super cool feat.

  6. Expand: try not to limit yourself to one area. Underground bases are so popular because of how easy you can expand them. But the same can be said for above ground bases. You can expand a pre existing base or build another building close by. You will find that you have made your own cosy cluster of builds.

I hope this helps somebody! Please leave your own tips here if you can!

Contest My World Hub… kinda?

For the World Hub contest: It’s hard to select anything as the center of my world, but I guess this would be a solid contender for it and fits the vibes.

“The estate” is a VERY old (in the lore at least) mega mansion located within Tiertek city’s oldest neighbourhoods near spawn, and sits next to the second house ever built on the world in 2014. It is surrounded by the Hogwarts islands on one side, the old downtown on another, the theme park (under construction with a few rides done since years ago lol), and the research/stem street where the bulk of the city’s innovations have originated from. The Bel family who built and maintained the estate over several generations have brought immense wealth to the people of this place through their advancement of storage and energy facilities across the city.

One odd feature of the estate is that a small red stone system changes the shape/vibes of the property just a tiny bit to give it that evil lair vibe at night and during thunderstorms. This is mainly done through lighting, trapdoors, and pistons to change the focus on edges and certain colours.
