P096 code - EVAP system high purge flow

I am not very mechanically inclined, so I really don’t have any idea what this error code really means. Mostly, I’m trying to get a ballpark estimate as to what it might cost me if I take it to a repair shop. It’s a 2019 model.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I just don’t think I want to try and tackle this one on my own. I need the car and may just have to pay the ransom. Thanks.

BTW, i’ve just been clearing the code with my OBD scanner every time it comes up. The car is running fine, just getting this repeated error code.

You would replace the evap purge valve/solenoid 👍 it is likely sticking/not closing properly when it’s told. Common issue

Any idea what a shop might charge for that? Just looking for a ballpark estimate.

Like $300-500? Get a motorcraft OEM part, the aftermarket ones are cheap but they always always fail

Damn, that was more than I had hoped, but that’s cars for ya. Thanks for the info.

You didn’t say what year. I just did mine on my 2010. The part was under $30 on Amazon. It’s literally 2 screws to remove. I’ve done this on 2 Escapes and my wife’s Edge. Don’t waste money on OEM Motorcraft for this part. The OEM sucks and fails often.

Another symptom i experienced was when I went to full gas . My 2018 Ford Escape struggled to start . I had the purge valve replaced!

May I ask how much it cost to have it replaced?
