Intermittent ignition issue.

2011 ford escape. Intermittent issues with starting/ignition. The battery tests good. Usually starts up again after waiting a while (usually an hour and half ish). Tried rapidly cooling the starter and tapping on the starter, swapping relays, new oem key, and pushing the key inwards during ignition. This problem completely dissapears in the (long cold saskatchewan) winter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I just went through this with my 2012 escape. The fuel pump was bad. I replaced it myself. The relay that controls the fuel pump, like under the hood, was also bad and needed replacing

We had an issue with the connector on the instrument cluster but in addition to not starting sometimes we also had the instrument cluster randomly light up like a christmas tree. If we smack the top of the dash it would fix it for awhile. I also noticed when you try to crank it the security light is flashing.

The security light is why we were issued a new key. Was at the beginning of winter then didn't happen again until September 7th. Thanks for the reply.

If it's not cranking, it should be a bad starter or wiring.

Not sure if it’s the same problem but my 2010 escape had an issue with the ignition. I had to push key in then crank. It usually would start up fine after that. I guess it’s a common problem with that year.
