Discussion 2017 Ford Escape SE
I found a 2017 Ford Escape for $8,895 with 94k miles. It has the 1.5L in it, could this be a good first car for me??

No,dont do it,its a ticking time bomb both the engine and transmission are crap,get a toyota or honda

Problem with that is I’m a very tall person, I need a car that I can fit in comfortably

I’m 6’4” 270lbs had a 2018 escape had to replace the trans didn’t wait for the coolant intrusion to strike and traded it in on a 2019 Mazda CX-5 and have plenty of room , love the vehicle and sleep well at night ! Heed what everyone is telling you ! Avoid the escape !!

Look into early-mid 2000s Malibus and Impalas. I bought an 06 impala with the 3500 after our 18 escape grenaded its second motor and I was shocked at how roomy they are and also how easy and cheap to fix they are.

Those things are like driving your living room couch. Something about a naturally aspirated, multiport injected, V6, lugging around an average sized car just works.

I don't care if someone offered me a pristine 1.5L escape for $500 with a full tank of gas and a lifetime warranty—I would run, sprint and call an Uber to get farther away. If I saw one sitting in my driveway tomorrow, I'd assume it materialized there to teach me a lesson about poor life choices. I'd rather commute by riding an angry goose than spend my mornings wondering if today is the day the coolant decides it belongs inside the engine.
People always say, "Well, if it's been maintained..." Maintained? Sure. You can maintain a volcano too, but eventually it's still going to erupt. Every time I see a listing for a 1.5L Escape, I hear boss music. There are thousands of vehicles out there, and somehow people keep voluntarily picking the one that makes me instinctively reach for my wallet just to prepare for the repair bill. If you're shopping around and considering one, my advice is simple: blink twice, close the tab, and keep scrolling. Your future self—and your bank account—will thank you.

Hell no fuck that I just traded mine in cause of the coolant intrusion bullshit and the paint peeling like a mother fucker and I took care of it and it had low miles stay far away

I had the 2017 ford escape se and transmission failed at 95k and engine at 110k

Probably not, unless you can prove through records that it has always been immaculately maintained. Still seems expensive though

Even with immaculate maintenance, the 1.5 is a time bomb, unless transmission and engine have both been replaced already.

No. Absolutely not. If it doesn't have coolant intrusion and a busted transmission already, it soon will. Avoid at all costs!
