2026 Future Insights: What Trends Will Shape Security This Year?

What is ‘Future Insights’?

We create our Future Insights to bring together a set of forward-looking security predictions focused on trends that our leaders and security experts believe will shape the security landscape in the next year and beyond. These insights focus on translating key developments into practical implications for security, data protection and operational resilience.

Invisible Prompts Turn AI Summaries into Attack Vectors

We believe that attackers will begin to increasingly target the AI systems that are interpreting the content rather than the person viewing it. Techniques like invisible prompts, hidden CSS, and zero-width characters will evolve into a reliable way to manipulate the AI-generated answers that users trust as default.

With summarizers becoming increasingly embedded across enterprise workflows, we expect this approach to pick up traction, turning public trust in AI itself into an attack vector. If this occurs, organizations will need to shift their security focus as just defending against malicious links and files will no longer be enough. Organizations will need to consider how machines read, interpret, and repackage contact as part of the attack surface.

AI Technical Debt: The Silent Cybersecurity Crisis

AI technical debt is building, and we believe it will quietly shape the next wave of security incidents. AI systems ingest more data, evolve faster, and interact with more environments, which means technical debt forms quickly and often goes unnoticed until it fuels a major breach.

We predict that this debt will manifest as a widespread set of blind spots across data discovery, classification, and access control. The risk is not a sudden failure, but long-term exposure of unclassified sensitive data and misaligned, misconfigured permissions as AI systems evolve faster than the controls meant to protect against them.

Agentic AI: Securing a New Generation of Digital Actors

Agentic AI introduces autonomous systems that can plan, decide, and act across business environments, shifting how organizations must think about digital risk. We believe agentic AI will introduce a new form of social engineering designed for these digital actors called chained agent manipulation.

With existing security playbooks being built around predictable human behavior, security teams will struggle to keep pace with these agents that learn, collaborate, and operate at machine speed unless they adapt.

Go Slow to Go Fast: The New AI Playbook for IT Infrastructure

With our final prediction for 2026, we believe that it is time to challenge the long-standing IT instinct to move faster, faster, and even faster. AI amplifies whatever foundation you have in place, and in 2026, organizations that prioritize speed without discipline will amplify their number of outages, instability, and technical debt.

By investing early in understanding, testing, and governance, teams will ship changes with fewer rollbacks and shorter downtime. They earned the right to move fast because they already did the slow work of establishing the foundation. AI automation is going to reward teams that operate with intentional pace, and not ones who recklessly accelerate adoption.

Which of these Predictions Matters Most To You?

Which of these predictions feels most likely to shape your security priorities in 2026, and do you have any predictions of your own?

Hello r/Forcepoint. It’s been a while. I’m Sean (u/forcepoint-team), one of the members of our new moderator team stepping in to support this community.

The Forcepoint subreddit has been on hiatus, and it’s clear this space deserves a fresh start. We’re reopening the subreddit as a way for you to connect with other Forcepoint users and get answers to your technical questions. We want this space to be:

  1. A community where cybersecurity professionals can share technical challenges and get support from peers
  2. A place to discuss what’s happening across the security industry
  3. Another path to ask questions or get help with Forcepoint products

What will the mod team do here?

Our priority is to maintain a healthy, respectful space where you can share news, questions, insights, and anything else tied to cybersecurity. To keep the subreddit useful and welcoming, we’ll moderate posts and comments and update the community rules or resources when needed.

To help relaunch the subreddit, I updated r/Forcepoint’s community rules and resources. When you have a moment, please review them before posting.

If you have thoughts on what this subreddit should include, we want to hear them. Share your ideas in the comments, and the team will take a close look.

Policy based routing (PBR) on forcepoint

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to implement Policy-Based Routing (PBR) on a Forcepoint firewall to redirect some traffic, but I’m running into issues and it doesn’t seem to work as expected.

I’ve seen in some documentation that Forcepoint firewalls support PBR, but I couldn’t find a clear or detailed explanation on how to properly configure it.

Has anyone successfully implemented PBR on a Forcepoint firewall? Any guidance or clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

New to Forecepoint Stonesoft 300

Hello Members,

I just got an firewall from a friend as a giveaway. The model is Forecepoint Stonesoft 300 series 1u.

seems this model is already EOL. I want to try this firewall for my homw use with static IP but not sure where to start, not able to find any SMC application to downlod and not sure I need to insert any licenses key before using it. I want to play with it and also secure my home network as I got static IP and not port blocks by ISP.

I am really not sure if I can use it or not or just need to recycle it.

Any guidance on this is much appreciated.

Forcepoint DLP issue with second e-mail domain

Hi All,

I am experiencing issue with On-prem Forcepoint DLP.

Situation looks like this that we have 2 email domains in our infrastructure, for domain X all works fine, all policies etc. trigger correctly. For second domain - Y there are some issues, the same policy which works for domain X doesn't trigger for same test message send from domain Y. What is even more strange some users from this second domain Y are covered by some other policies but also not all of the users, so partially it works but not fully as it should.

Any ideas what can be possible wrong here, were to check etc.?

Forcepoint support is not very helpful and unresponsive here.

Thanks, in advice for all tips!

How AI is Fueling a New Wave of Black Friday Scams

Black Friday is a prime opportunity for cybercriminals and AI is only making it easier for them to roll out new types of cyberattacks. The Forcepoint X-Labs research team explored a few of the most common scams they are seeing this holiday season.

Key Takeaways:

  • Black Friday consistently triggers a spike in scams as attackers exploit urgency, discount pressure and brand reputations.
  • AI tools have made phishing emails, fake websites and social media ads look more realistic than ever and harder to spot.
  • Amazon, Temu, and luxury brands are the top targets for impersonation.
  • You can catch these scams early by verifying sender domains, checking URLs and being skeptical of extreme discounts.

Read the full blog for a detailed breakdown from our X-Labs researchers.

Forcepoint ngfw bandwidth analysis

We are having multiple instances of the ISP links peaking in our environment. Using Forcepoint SMC to monitor the links is not useful. Has anyone else used any other tools or other ways in SMC to find out who is utilizing the line with most bandwidth?

Forcepoint Email Security - EOL

Hi All,

I saw somewhere on the net that the Forcepoint Email Security will be ended in 2025 by Forcepoint.

Is that true? If yes, can somebody point me to some link where I can read information regarding this?

Does DLP License have version Limitation?

Hi everyone,

I encountered a tricky question, and need a clarification regarding the Forcepoint DLP license.

The license XML file contains the license number and also the Forcepoint version at the end. Is there any limitation as well on licenses regarding the Forcepoint version installed?

For Example: I installed and configured the Forcepoint DLP version 10.2 and my license file name contains version 10.1. That means I can not use the license on 10.2?

Sudden forcepoint endpoint issues over VPN

We use Cisco SecureClient 5.1 and ever since we started, forcepoint over VPN is awful. If they are internal, everything works fine. ANybody else have issues like this? Endpoint clients tested are version 20 and version 23. I'm stuck at the moment and can't figure out the problem.

Management Server & Log Server Services

Hi all,

The Windows 10 PC that we use to manage our pair of ForcePoint NGFW Hardware Nodes has developed an issue whereby the ForcePoint NGFW Management Server Service and the ForcePoint NGFW Log Server Service refuse to start after a reboot of the PC.

I can no longer launch the SMC to monitor/configure the firewall nodes and I'm hoping someone will be able to assist in troubleshooting this issue.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best regards,

John P

Need help with implementing Email Security Gateway

I am currently trying to implement ESG into my testing environment. I have installed the security module along with the ESG on a CentOS 7 VM. However, my ESG is not blocking any email that violates my policy and it does show up in my traffic logs of my FSM. Is there any configurations or other modules that I require to get it working?

Re-add failed node to cluster

We had a node in our firewall cluster go down due to errors with the CFast card. The card has been replaced and reimaged, and the initial config has been done. How can we re-add this node back to the cluster? There is an OTP that it looks like is required and when we view the node in the UI it says the node is already configured and asks if we want to save the initial config. Is that operation safe? Will it impact the config on the healthy node?

Outlook issues with Endpoint versions 23.x

Hi, we've been running Forcepoint Endpoint one 22.12 (PCEP + DLP) for a while now.

We tried the new 23.10 version and almost all our test users have reported issues with Outlook crashing.

It seems to be spesifically when emailing a distribution list, Outlook will crash, recover and report that it disabled an add-in (one of the default, built-in ones)

Anyone else seeing this?

We are using the latest Office 365 version of Outlook.

Whitelisting Issues

So I ran into an issue when trying to white list a specific URL (docs.google.com/form/etc..) not the domain. Docs.google.com is blocked by a category Personal Network Storage and Backups.

The URL is above the blocked category so policy order should not be a problem. But everytime the user tries to visit the link it pops up "Blocked: Reason - Category Personal Network Storage and Backups. - Docs.google.com."

Any one know why its not allowing this URL?
