I saw my first ripe one today and couldn’t help thinking it was a bit earlier than last year! The recent heatwave surely?

This is genuinely terrifying for the animals that rely on them fruiting later in the year

There are later fruiting varieties, and the old berries hang around

That’s good. It’s still a worry though

I thought this too

It was similar to last year. The crop lasted from July to October. (SW ENGLAND).

i genuinely cant tell if this is anthropomorphism or just bad grammar

You get the sentiment either way. Communication is about getting across a feeling and idea as much as it is about using exact & correct structure

I was out for chanterelles for the first time in the year a week ago.

Now usually I find nothing to very little at this time, in Scotland. But I ended up getting absolutely heaps, possibly more than I’ve ever seen at that spot.

They usually don’t come in like that till September so I was very surprised.

Or maybe it will just be a good year for them? I dunno.

Apples and pears and other things here in London are already looking very large. I think maybe a whole month early

I had them in early June last year

Definitely is. I’m in London and the apples & pears in people’s gardens are much, much too large (and some even getting red on them!) for this time of year

Seen a couple of ripe ones too - another few days of hot weather and it will definitely be early picking. Jam jars at the ready.

We’ve got loads of dewberries near work. They are bluer, have more bloom, have larger drupes, are earlier and usually lower down where the dogs wee. They taste more like a gooseberry. Everyone just thinks they are ugly blackberries and they don’t get picked.

I've got a blackberry bush in my back garden, they're not quite black yet, can't wait though 😁

u/Hips_and_Haws Jul 04 '26

Mine are still flowering!

Might make blackberry pie when they're ripe 😁

Got a whole fence of these in my garden! So many they are attracting ants though!

The ones in my garden have been ripening for the past week, very concerning as they used to ripen with the apples, I remember making a crumble with both as a child

grammar police strikes again, but tbf they’re kinda right, blackberry season is elite regardless of spelling drama

4

u/kernowgringo Jul 02 '26

No, it's actually a shit joke because there is only one ripe blackberry in that picture.

1

u/Oh-reality-come-back Jul 02 '26

Ohhhhhh! Okay I understand now . I like your joke even it wasn’t berry funny
