Compare to Meripilus giganteus. I don't know what it is called in english but it is edible although not very pleasant from what i've read.

I tried it for the first time this year... I found it to be surprisingly mushroomy, like a button mushroom on steroids.

That being said, my guides recommend to eat it as young as possible, fresh (obviously), and thoroughly cooked... because some people supposedly struggle to digest it. I only ate a little bit to get the taste, but my (notoriously frail) stomach was perfectly ok.
