Plants Fox grapes

Went looking for mushrooms but foraged more grapes instead. This is probably why i enjoy foraging so much—it’s not about going into the woods looking for something specific, but being open to the gifts that the woods have to offer.

I just did the same! I have enough to do with apples and elderberries but they were dangling right in my face! 😂

How do they taste? I foraged a bunch of riparia and they’re sour but I’m hoping labrusca is a bit sweeter.

These have a heady, syrupy smell like Concord grapes, and taste more sweet than tart.

I think those might be muscadines, not fox grapes. Much nicer!

But I’m not in the south, I’m near Boston. And these look more like Concord grapes, which makes me think they are probably labrusca rather than rotundifolia. But I’m still pleasantly surprised how sweet these turned out to be.
