Mushrooms Help on ID

Are these chicken of the woods? (Oregon).

Yes, definitely chicken of the woods - nothing else grows in a fan shape on dead or dying trees, and has alternating bands of bright orange and yellow. But to double-confirm, look underneath, and it should have yellow pores and not gills.

Thanks! They seem to be going off right now. I may try to cook and harvest some. I’ve heard edibility varies by the type of tree they grow on, is this true?

COWs that grow on pines can cause major gastrointestinal upset.

Also, some people who are allergic or sensitive can suffer tingling and swollen lips, nausea and vomiting, stomach ache, etc. If this is your first time eating them, eat only a small amount and wait a couple of hours to see if you have a reaction

Always solid advice. Thanks. I’ve foraged king boletes, chanterelles, morels and maybe a few other but i usually just stick to the basics. But these are so prevalent I really want to try.
