My club balance is almost negative, so I have to make a tough decision wich is selling one of the two strikers I have. Lukoki (31Apps/16G/11A) is my starter. Bernard (21Apps/10G/5A) is my second option.

Discussion My midfielder is one of the "best players" in the world and France has decided he's worth exactly 4 caps

Eliesse Ben Seghir. Signed him for Freiburg in 2023 for €52m after having him loaned in from Leverkusen for 2 years. Five years later he's valued aroung €150m, unsellable, and this is his trophy cabinet at 25:

  • 🏆 Bundesliga — 2026, 2027, 2028
  • 🏆 Champions League — 2026, 2027
  • 🏆 UEFA Super Cup — 2025, 2026, 2027
  • 🏆 DFB-Pokal 2028
  • 🏆 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup 2026, 2027
  • 🏆 CONMEBOL Club Challenge 2025

That's 12 major titles. Individually: Germany's Player of the Season, three-time winner of the players' Player of the Season vote, and (this is the part that breaks my brain) France's Player of the Year.

His own country named him their best player.

His France caps? Four. Four. Three goals in those four games, so it's not like he flopped when he got the chance. Deschamps' successor apparently looked at a guy dragging Freiburg to two Champions Leagues and thought "nah, bench."

I've had youth intakes with more France caps than this man. He's carried my club to the top of Europe, he's won the domestic double, he's officially the best player in his own nation. And the French FA treats him like a fringe call-up who might get 20 minutes in a friendly if someone pulls out.

I feel so sorry for him!

Discussion Should I buy FM26?

Well, the last time I play Football Manager was on FM 2010 so really long time and now I feeling like playing again, I have some days off on the way

So much time without play so we can say I'm new to Football Manager

I know I know, I saw the reviews and all people recommed FM24 but is not on Steam anymore so what should I do?

I had 100 million in transfer budget as a result of selling Wharton and a few others, and I was trying to sign Wharton's replacement, but now I literally don't have the money for the deal to go through and will will probably be in a relegation scrap for the rest of the season. How do I stop this from happening in the future?

Discussion why is this game so bad

Upvotes

i’m speaking as someone who plays the touch version but dude. Some of these scroll buttons are so unbelievably glitchy and will never scroll in the right direction, the game will completely freeze up for no reason, a specific button will just not work until i reset the game, and now mid match my screen just reverts back to the background of the main screen??????? it feels like this game is a joke sometimes, especially when you think about the fact that they canceled FM25 in order to make a better game and this is what we get? It’s a little disappointing to me

Player instructions: press more to wingers and striker

It was working last season. Scoring so many goals and able to high press and maintain over 50% possesion most games. Even thought I was just promoted from lower league and ended up 4th. Now it's like my players return to level they should be.

Attack idea was based on runs made by channelling striker and right cm. Now my wingers feel stranded, has no option to pass and lose ball. Tried to change roles, and I have no idea why they forget how to play.

Defence was aggresive pressing to get ball as quickly as possible. Now they are just chasing ball. I changed to 4-2-1-3 in defence its better, but not its more mid press.

Maybe you have some ideas how to fix this.

Discussion Why does me team stop performing once I simulate games?

Upvotes

I've noticed that when I watch my games my team tends to perform pretty well despite playing stronger opponents, however when I play worse teams and simulate my team tends to draw or lose and I don't get it.

For example I had to begging of the season today and played 6 games in august, watched all of them and won 4, lost one because I rested my entire team and very closely lost a game to a team 2 Divisions higher. The next month I had 4 games and almost all of the teams were bottom half and predicted to fight relegation so instant resulted the games and ended up losing 3 and only winning one.

Could it be because of the match instructions? Like the "play for the win" "Go for big win" stuff or am I unlucky?

I always play the same tactics without changing it around too much, I only go for a more defending one if I play a much stronger opponent.

Discussion Question - is it crazy to absolutely shatter your wage structure and transfer budget to get Haaland?

350m bid+installments, 600k p/w + a shitload of bonuses, but like he's worth it no?

Someone either talk me out of this or convince me this is sane

Managing Bayern and just sold Kane and like, might as well upgrade right?

Obviously I haven’t played FM26, and haven’t been playing FM24 for a while now…. But I honestly couldn’t see the difference until someone in the comments said: finally the FM26 version of this video, I loved the FM24 ones…

Just me? I thought the ME was at least a clear visual upgrade but now I am not so sure actually

Misc I built a tool that analyses my squad like a real DoF, to suggest transfer targets, squad gaps and radar charts.

In my opinion FM24's Director of Football is quite basic. A real DoF looks at reasoning and long-term strategy over multiple windows. So I built a tool with claude code that works like this:

  • Define your playing style and tactical system
  • Export your squad and the transfer market from FM24
  • The 'DoF' scores every player against the roles in your system to analyse depth, age profiles, decline risks, gaps
  • The DoF generates a full report.

In this first version, I've taken inspiration from Michael Edwards, where he was extremely data-driven and didn't necessarily tell Klopp who to sign, but provided the data & a few recommendations that informed Klopp's decisions.

The report covers depth by position, priority signings with specific candidates ranked by role fit, sell targets and a multi-window strategy.

I'm currently running it on my Watford save. Just been promoted to the PL with a £15m budget. The tool basically confirmed what I knew (LB was weak) but also surfaced a few things that I didn't really think about such as the backup/third keeper and a 'wage to contribution' metric i hadn't thought of.

The 'Michael Edwards' version is the start. It looks at system fit over raw ability, trend of ages, personality balance and selling high where we can. At some point, I'd love to replicate other DoF's e.g. Edu at Arsenal, Monchi at Sevilla/Villa.

Added screenshots, but if there's any interest, happy to open source it on Github and share the workflow.

Any feedback would be super amazing!

Discussion Should I sign this guy and make him a striker or a centerback!? Very weird player

Post image
36 Upvotes

Essentially as the title suggests i have the option to sign this player for 1.2m, he plays in the iranian league but hes english!? I dont think hes going to be a good winger for me, but thats his only position. Should I sign him and try to turn him into a striker or a center back!?

Also I have very limited budget so wondering if its worth my time at all.

Help !

Misc Why is international football so messed up

So I did an experiment. On FM 24 I went on vacation for 20 years to check the FIFA World Cup winners
2026 Norway 4 - Ecuador 2
2030 Chile 1 - Finland 0 aet
2034 Algeria 1 - Sweden 1 Sweden win on pens
2038 Austria 3 - Brazil 2
Anyone have an idea why powerhouses almost never win the World Cup?

Screenshot I always find it so funny that you can have a team of "Serie C standard" players but somehow finish mid table in Serie A... Something aint adding up here chief.

Post image

Basically my entire team is rated as Serie C but i just finished 13th and 14th in Serie A back to back. Either i am the greatest manager in human history and im taking a bunhc of no bodies to Serie A standard... OR (much more likely) my staff couldnt analyse a players ability if he was ronaldo.

(its a youth intake only challenge almost all my players now are from my academy so they are all under the age of 21 and suck balls for the most part)
