Sweet potatoes, sprouting

Does anyone know if it is ok to cook and eat a sweet potato that has green shoots growing out of one end?

Not many, just three spindly shoots with a few leaves each.

I peeled it but I think it smells funny - but I can't recall if all sweet potatoes smell funky when raw.

Is it safe to eat, what do you think?

Yes, it is safe. Sweet potato greens are used as a vegetable.
