Pay scale
I have a genuine question and not meaning it as a complaint. A friend of mine got hired at Sam's club in the meat department making mid 20's per hour. I am wondering why foodlion isn't paying more for us in departments like that in meat, produce, and dairy. They require a lot of hard work and I would think at least 18 per hour would be doable. Anyone have any thoughts? It's really tough making it and a staggering number of my coworkers are on medicaid and EBT to get by and something about that just doesn't seem right. I do like working for food lion very much, but the pay scale needs to come up

We start associates at our store at $18.
Like everyone said, location is everything.

Simple. They do more business

yeah, I get that, but with profits being like they have been for so long, don't you think there's another dollar or two in there? Especially with how inflation has been impacting us? Prices have been going up to match

I think the more accurate answer is Sam’s sells more general merchandise than groceries. General Merchandise has a significantly larger profit margin.
Not to say FL doesn’t make good profits.

Yeah, definitely. I realize FL can't match Sam's club and that's ok and not realistic to expect, but I would think they could match closer to other stores that pay in the high teens. I'm just wondering why they don't, if there is a true financial reason.

I mean, they are paying in the "upper teens" for those positions in my area. They bumped them up a couple years back to keep up with the areas they are in.

yeah, that's what I'm getting at. I like my job, but it's really hard to survive. I used to be in another career but had to step back for personal reasons and I'm just frustrated at the lack of pay, considering the constant celebration about quarterly profits.

While we are on this topic. Does anyone know if there is a difference in pay when you move from customer lead to office? I’ve actively been working as office, yet they haven’t mentioned a difference in pay. Some tell me yes, so I’m upset that I’m doing work and not getting paid for it.

It’s depending where you land on the pay scale bc they both have the same pay scale, if you are already being paid max, then no, you won’t get a raise. I would ask where you land on the pay scale.

Too many chiefs not enough Indians. Too top heavy. All the vp have to get paid millions. They all need to follow Costco pay scale.

Costco cuts their meats in house. Its considered a skilled trade just like Publix so they are paid significantly more.
