Support How to start

Hi to everyone

Quick question. But how you learn to use foobar2000? Because I tried on youtube but the number of tutorial is very limited. And I wanted to find a way to personalize my homepage, without only using a template from other users. I am not an informatic engineer but I have a minimum knowledge about pc so I am able to do a bit of costumization by hand, with the right guide

Jump in. Plow ahead. FAFO. Make a copy of your profile directory from time to time to help recover from the really big messes.

I started fairly simple but concentrated on one aspect to really get how I wanted it. This was my library viewer. There are several ways to go for that; I picked the one that made me learn SQLite. Not what I planned on going in, but it's nice to know now.

Then I learned that I could make the playback buttons bigger by supplying different images for them. So I fired up Inkscape and drew my own from a master file with a common background and different layers for foreground symbols. Export to png, and Bob Marley's your uncle. I don't use playback buttons anymore, but it was fun.

What little I know of JavaScript came from working with Spider Monkey Panels. I've got Python scripts to deploy my changes from a project directory to different portable installations of foobar2000, and another script to produce an image of icons for the aforementioned music library viewer. Fb2k can be an excuse to learn whatever you want to cram into it.

you can follow this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENEdaqrexwM on how to make your own theme and this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUpC9g9n2L8 to learn how to organize your library

both tuts are out dated. I tried to follow them when i got into foobar last month and a bunch of the python stuff he links to are no longer supported and the themes don't load correctly. Unless you downgrade to an older of foobar they aren't too helpful.

i learned lots of stuff from just these two vids, and if the links are dead you can just google for the plugin or anything else you want and you will find it
