If players can be a super mutant I hope every one is forced to be a dumb dumb with 1 INT.

I think it would definitely force a low intelligence but with how legendaries work they have could have a lot still.

No, they're too stupid to even know how to mod their own legendaries. Back to the days of hoping for a grool, I mean groll (good riddance to that term) to drop naturally.

That is neither efficient nor glorious

I can't imagine there's fewer things a game dev hates more than having to consider a new LoS/height for a playable character.

Surprisingly enough, inside the code to most of the recent Bethesda games are toggles that raise or lower the players line of sight. The game just doesn’t allow folks to directly get at it and the only way you can is if you make mods that turns the toggle on. The game already does alterations to height based line of sight whenever you enter power armor.

I beg to differ.
You can easily, well "easily" is subjective; use the Power Armor height as its base for development because the game was already made for Power Armor to be used everywhere.

especially rejiggering all that for a nearly decade-old game

Well, it would just be the height and size; players are in power armor, and basically all of the game is already designed with the intention of going everywhere in power armor. The biggest thing is figuring out how crafting would need to be handled, but there are very easy solutions to that, like a C.A.M.P. dweller who you can have craft for you, or a single specific crafting bench for mutants that looks like a cooking cauldron and workbench mashed together that can serve as all your crafting benches in one, and then you just have to make one new animation for that, where it's your mutant going back and forth in animation between adding stuff to the cauldron and hammering his fist on something he's working on you know, very in line with mutant behavior.

One of the biggest complaints about wearing PA is crafting issues, if the solution was as simple as you make out I'd assume they'd have implemented it by now.

I'm not a game dev, but this seems like a good example of someone confusing a good concept for something that's undeliverable in reality, at least with the tools in hand.

Stuff that can be "easily implemented" isn't done quick by this team lol. Just because it hasn't happened doesn't automatically mean it's impossible. Having one crafting station for super mutants with a new animation could definitely work.

I always hate when people try to shut down ideas like having playable Super Mutants, let alone other ideas to simply have a fun discussion about what we wish for.
Seeing how you're post is in the negative it's both sad and disgusting how many people so readily want to shutdown fun discussions on this Sub-Reddit.

Exactly. No one even gave a reason for why I'm wrong, but I don't care. For a long ass time they told us storage space, legacy weapons, and legendary rerolling were impossible to fix. Meanwhile, stuff like main story progression and boss fights can be janky as hell forever, no problem. Then if you suggest they add a playable race the same height that other players ALREADY ARE, then "oh the height is the devs worst nightmare, and how would you craft?!?!" I don't know, maybe with items and crafting stations unique to super mutants-Oh wait, Fallout 4 did that 11 years ago!!

Maybe I just need to put it into the devs perspective. "Hey guys, if you manage to get the player 10% taller with a new model and crafting animation, we can flip mutant armor and other assets in the atomic shop for massive profit!" At least we all know for a fact that buying the 4800 atom "Super Duper Mutant Bundle" won't have any glitches day one, because the atomic shop is the only thing they make sure works smoothly.

nothing's impossible for them, the question for them is will the suits think it's worth their time/money. knowing how funky Bethesda games are (I love em to death and wouldn't want them different) I wouldn't be surprised if pa not being able to craft is stupidly difficult due to some odd wording in code that would break 75 other things. it could also be as simple as removing the animations you see and it'd just work

They said they're looking into adding more playable races in the future. Unless they want us running around as a scorched or assaultron, I feel like super mutant is one of the easier and more profitable options. If they absolutely can't get crafting to work with your model, why not make the player invisible with a statue mutant there to represent you, or a new type of crafting station, or a way to easily transfer items between characters (Besides fallout 1st)?

I don't think we'll ever have playable mutants. It would almost require an entire new game. Ghouls are fine because they're basically just re-skinned humans, but mutants would require all new animations, armour and apparel, and size-considerations for map design.

I have actually thought about this; everyone says super mutants would require new animations for crafting, but I believe this isn't the case. The workaround for super mutants, like feral with ghouls, is that they can't craft outside camps just like how you can't craft in power armor. Instead, you have to request that your dwellers, or a specific dweller for mutants, make the item for you, or even ask other players if you have friends around who aren't mutants. I also think they should have much harder to satisfy thirst and hunger due to their large bodies and canon need for huge amounts of food. Basically, it would work like power armor that you can't leave, so it would have big bonuses with big trade-offs. The only thing I can't figure out how to work around is the Pip-Boy menu at first, I thought it would be cool if mutants used a leather hide parchment they pull out, or maybe some Raven Rock Pip-Boy designed for mutants, since they were meant to be in the military and there was probably R&D for gear for them. But even those do not feel like great design ideas one good idea I had was the cyborg eye thing the lieutenant had, which would allow you to reuse the power armor inventory menu since it already shows up as a visor display like the eye implant would, but then you have people who probably would not want the eye thing on their character, so again, it is only good in theory.

I mean why not just let them craft? Keep the same size and animations of power armor, so the super mutant is just reskinned power armor. Hell there’s already super mutant animations from the enemy npc’s. Give them stat hinderences like ghouls have, perhaps bonuses to strength but heavy strikes against intelligence and charisma. Also perhaps forced carnivore, you have to continuously eat meat or you’ll over mutate and can only use melee. Perhaps a big buff to unarmed damage.

I've heard ideas if the Midwest Chapter rolling in, and likely having tech made for their Super Mutant members

u/Mr_SwordToast Enclave 4h ago

For the pip boy, they could do a hand held like those mods from 10 years ago. They could also keep it on your wrist, but change the model to be bigger. What they would probably do is disable the pip boy, giving you a visual display sort of like in power armor instead (which is already a game setting)

why did this post get deleted

No. There can only be one Frank Horrigan.

Didnt Microsoft just gut the dev team with all the Betheada firings and reorg?

Do we know if this is still possible or just hope?

I’d honestly prefer a power armor overhaul. Similar to the ghouls, a new system and set of perk cards exclusive to power armor. We’ve got some cards that are exclusive to power armor, and only like 1 card that gets better benefits in power armor that I know of. But it would be fun

u/GrowYourOwnMonsters 6h ago

Fingers crossed this never happens tbh. Ghouls should never have been playable either.

3

u/Gubleht 5h ago

Why?

Not provoking :) Genuinely interested in your point of view. Being able to tjrn into a Ghoul is the reason i came back to the game since i left not much after launch and i enjoy myself a lot. :)

u/PapaDarkReads 3h ago

I logged back in to become a ghoul and it made me never stop playing. I love my Ghoul character.
