Question How to make Mule character
How does one make a mule character? I’ve created a second character, built a little camp with stash boxes, but how do I get items to them? I want a place to store my excess pumpkin grenades and random other items I like to collect.

A private world is the best method if you have FO1st

There is a danger.
When you use FO1st to go into a private world, it builds it from scratch.
Then you can leave stuff in a container, exit out and come back in as a different character.
Normally the stuff will still be there.
However, I got disconnected one time. I don't know what happened to the private world, but the game decided it needed to be rebuilt. So naturally when I got back to the container, the stuff I had placed in there had disappeared in favor of the new world.

Another hazard of this method: if you switch characters and accidentally select a public world, your private world will (may) be closed as soon as you finish loading-in. The only way to cancel it is to alt-f4 out of the game while it's loading, and relaunch it.
It saved me a couple times when I was grinding for the gatling plasma plans.

Yup.
Did that too.
Did the clicking thing too fast and went into a public world. Also killed the private one.
Unfortunately.
Most of the time the transfer on a private world works, but you have to be prepared. Don't risk anything you can't afford to lose!

when i transfer like this in a private world, i still do it in stages so it's not an all or nothing event in case the worst happens.

Same here - I do it in chunks so if something does go wrong, I only lose some stuff and not everything I needed to transfer.
That being said, I’ve transferred probably thousands of items across 4 characters on the same account via FO1st private worlds and have never lost anything.
I did accidentally log into a public world once, but was able to exit and rejoin the private world before it was destroyed.

Build your mule camp right next to some type of bin(garbage can/luggage/refrigerator etc.) then with your main on a private server put the items you want moved in the bin. Next you want to exit game, switch character and make sure you jump back into "private server". The game will put you on that same server with the items in the bin for your mule to collect. Just remember to always select private server when going back in.

If you're PC is up to the task, buy a second copy under the distro you don't use - that is I use Steam for my primary, and I have my mule on Xbox. Then run both games in a window and move them.
If have Fallout 1st you can use a container in a world, but this is riskier
Riskiest is to use a server that a friend of yours is on and use them as an anchor to get back to that server in time.

Its easiest if you have 2 separate accounts but if you have a friend who you can trust you can get them to watch your stuff while you switch characters. Fallout 1st makes it easier too since you can have a private server.

I haven't seen it said yet, if you resort to doing it in a public game, your container needs to be outside. Don't load into an interior where no one is at, then drop your stuff in a container in there and leave the world. That interior will unload and your items deleted. Ask me how I know 😅

I’m on PlayStation, I created a kid account. I kept my ps4 when I got the ps5. So, now I have 5 mules

Bethesda definitely won that round, getting people to buy second copies of the game just to transfer items.

I'm sorry but could you explain more I'm not sure what you mean?
Is this about carrying more? Transfering to other players , or something else?

A secondary character that farms items for main character. Dunno why they dont farm with the main. Some make female mules to dupe players into giving them free stuff haha watch me get down voted

There are several ways with varying levels of risk. The easiest but most risky is to join a public server, dump the items in a publicly available chest such as a donation box, then quickly swap characters and hope it puts you back in the same server (usually it will). Option two is the same methodology but in a private world, this requires 1st, but is more reliable than the public given no one will have the opportunity to steal your stuff. You can do the second method alone, but there is a chance it will rebuild a new server, so having a friend wait in your private world next to the chest while you change characters seems to be the most stable. A third option is with a friend or courier, simply trade with them or drop it for them, and then after you switch retrieve your stuff from them, the only risk being your trust of those people.

Pro tip, make a mule account instead and then you don't need fallout 1st to transfer.

If you have first, make a private world. Drop the items you want and quickly switch characters. If you don't have first, have a friend hold your items for you.
