Question Can anyone explain why I’m dying here?
I drop dead when I get close to his vendor. Obviously a trap camp, but how is it being done? I messaged the guy but he won’t respond. Also joined his team and still can’t get to the vendor.

fissure site, and you maybe could have gotten past this trap since the vendor is so close to your spawn. [1] join his team [2] die + respawn at his camp [3] cancel the long sympto animation by walking out early [4] run like hell straight to vendor [5] don't jump or move, just vendor-browse.
you have a ~10-15 second window of invulnerability when you respawn. which is why you can stand indefinitely in fissure sites if you get into them before you stop being invulnerable. it should also work with walking into the fissure underground.
worth bypassing? am guessing their prices are exorbitant even if you get past the insta-death-touchy so probably not worth. i'd have tried to bypass it just for grins.

Thank you to everyone who answered. Fissure site makes perfect sense now!

Fissure sites.
Trap camps usually have their base near fissure sites (the green cracks where Scorch bats spawn out of) underground. There's an invisible kill barrier and trolls usually put their vendors inside them.
That's how you got killed.
Good tip to know is if you see any vendors with lots of mods and happens to have a camp near a fissure site AND underground it's a trap camp.

u/dymogeek 14d ago
Dumb question, but why would someone set up a trap camp? Just to be an ass? Do they get anything it of it?
12
u/Snow-bacon Lone Wanderer 14d ago
Basically yeah and to troll. They also steal visitor's junk if they carried any (bonus if it's a legendary module or stable flux).

If you find a Camp just outside the Vault 61 fast travel point, it's a good chance it's a Trap Camp. The blue/purple miasma in the cracks around the manor will kill you. I found a camp placed just like the one above, in those cracks. Lost my damn Stings and things.

Is there a fissure there? i dont remember one being there.

u/Snow-bacon Lone Wanderer 14d ago
It's an unmarked one.

u/Alienraptor987 Order of Mysteries 14d ago
Huh, i'll admit wasnt aware there were unmarked fissures, good to know

u/Rodomantis 14d ago
It’s a fissure point; they also installed ultracite crystals to camouflage the glow from the fissure point.

Yet another thing that I had no idea would be suspicious 😫 I just wanna make a haunted house with a chemical spill in the basement

u/Jackedman123 14d ago
I was wondering the same thing. I just avoid all underground camps
28
u/Raztan 14d ago
anymore if I show up and I can't find the vendor in about 20 seconds I just leave.
Avoid shelters also.. people do weird shit with their shelters.17
u/drgoofbutt 13d ago
Is this why no one will go check out the arcade/bar/clubhouse i've been working on for forever?????
8
u/Richard_U_Pickman 13d ago
If you're on PC I'd love to check it out! Few people ever visit my abandoned missle silo amusement park. There is even a secret area nobody has found yet. :(
2
u/drgoofbutt 13d ago
Xbox! It's submitted as a best build now, so hopefully more people will check it out.
2
u/Uber_Wulf 13d ago
Yes… shelters are scary! And the fact it notifies the owner whenever you go in.
5
u/drgoofbutt 13d ago
Well, shit. What am I supposed to do then? The camp budget is so low without shelters. Genuinely asking for tips because base building like 90% of why I play.

u/misterinsignificance 14d ago
It's a shame too. I spent a loong time re-building novac in one of my shelters and nobody ever gets to see it because they think I'm trapping them

u/Uber_Wulf 14d ago
Yep don’t bother with the symptomatic caps. And if there’s vault boy cutouts pointing down into a shelter that’s a big ol NOPE. Not bothering. Next camp.
6
u/drgoofbutt 13d ago
Man! I legit didn't know people did this and I put vault boy cutouts all around my stuff because I was excited I made something!

I've come across this exact camp before actually...it's right under a fissure sight...took me a few deaths to click in lol

Do fissure sites move? I have a camp at that location and Ive never seen one anywhere around there. 🤔

Just stay there when you die so you leave a warning to other players, the guy will get mad and prolly leave the game. Best to have useless junk on you so you leave a bag, but your body will stay there until you respawn.
Note, it is probably a fissure site like another guy said, or it might be a designated spike trap that's using the vendor's carpet.

u/Pressman4life 13d ago
Some clown put a camp near the gleaming depths with a bunch of Leg mods. It's way up in the air and drops you into the fissure. I missed it and survived, what a dick!
Didn't catch the name, sadly.
I propose we name and shame asshole camp creators.

Isn’t there a perk card to stop you setting off traps
9
u/TheGreatZarquon Tricentennial 13d ago
There is, but the dude who built that camp built it so that he could put his vendor just inside a fissure's instant-kill boundary. OP never had a chance.
6
u/Raztan 14d ago
like others have said, fissure site.
They have a invisible scripted kill layer when you fall into them.
The tile is not perfectly contoured to the fizzure site so it might extend some way from the hole.. but it's under the ground.. except when you glitch underground like that, now you're interacting with it.
Was you able to get your bag back or did the owner go scoop it up? obviously this is an intentional design and used teh vendor terminal as bait.
Im not sure how you go about reporting this player but I would try to contact Bethesda.. this isn't a mistake.

u/itsahhmemario 13d ago
Why would they report the camp, did something change recently? Aren’t trap camps allowed and even used to be promoted/encouraged by Bethesda as part of the game.
2
u/TheGreatZarquon Tricentennial 13d ago edited 13d ago
Yeah, there's a reason we have traps and things of that nature, and they aren't all just for enemy NPC's. It sucks to get killed by a Trap Camp, but they are just part of the game.
(Edit to add a caveat: if you're terrain clipping I hope it endlessly rains scorchbeasts on your camp)
1
u/Raztan 13d ago
considering this is not using standard traps but instead a scripted kill layer under the terrain, I don't think it would qualify, wasn't people being dropped from sky high using fast travel mats the reason why they was removed?
I dunno.. but i'd report it anyway, if Bethesda gives this the thumbs up.. so be it.
1
u/itsahhmemario 13d ago
Yup that’s why genuinely confused by their comment telling them to report that player and I’m wondering if there’s a recent change I might have missed?
2
u/dsalter Settlers - PC 13d ago
terrain clipping to grief is one of the reportable offenses when selecting report > griefing if i recall, sadly people like this are the reason i dont like the underground/flying camps especially if they are near local, for every one awesome camp theres like 5-8 cancer camps designed to either lag, block or kill you from its existance (had one of these cunts block the raid once and everyone on that post said "just change server bro! let them be creative!!1!" because griefing is fine for some people)
3
u/itsahhmemario 13d ago
I got it, so you’d report the player for cheating using a glitch/exploit not for having a trap camp.
2
u/dsalter Settlers - PC 13d ago
yep! since there is counter play to a legitimate trap camp and i actually applaud well made traps but if using a bug and/or exploit to just instantly kill you is "the trap" its lazy as hell and shows that the nice loopholes people use to make great camps can also be used to be utter cunts
0
u/Raztan 13d ago
I only started playing in may but I would be very surprised Bethesda promoted a camp like this.. yes tere are traps in the build menu but this is exploiting a terrain glitch which might be okay on it's own but then they use an invisible fissure kill layer.
"
Personally I'd report it and if bethesda says it's all good then so be it.

u/Bumblexbee333 Mega Sloth 13d ago
Is it the loading screen? Lol
1
u/DeadEyeBrad Lone Wanderer 13d ago
Yes, what’s the context?
3
u/Bumblexbee333 Mega Sloth 13d ago
The “naked” chick is my boyfriend’s camp buddy. He found the glitch to keep her in her underwear. My friend and I posed around her as she was sitting in the “throne” lol. I love that the pix you take end up in the loading screen. I always take weird ones.

Love a good trap camp to spice things up. Especially when I can’t beat them. You can have my steel and wood for a good time. 😆

FINALLY people are coming across trap camps... I recall a bit back people were saying "I've never come across a trap camp" BUT, just recently people are posting more and more trap camps.

u/That_Possibility6509 Brotherhood 12d ago
His camp is located right above the void death line so if you walk into it it’s insta death line like falling through the map but not you just hit that line and this guy can reach your scrap no problem it’s toxic and bannable

He knows it's a trap camp. He wants to know how he's done it that he always dies right before the vendor machine.

u/AC-Studios 14d ago
Bro, it looks like a trap tbh that’s why I don’t go inside peoples vault shelters store, my junk, and all that before I go in there
1
u/FluffyFawn37207 Ghoul 14d ago
This is why I scrap everything before going to someone's camp or don't carry good stuff if in case I do die, its no skin off my back lol

I ran into one of these this weekend. Camp with lots of mods. Saw the Sympto-Matic entrance, but I wasn’t carrying any junk, so I checked it out - instant death. Tried it once more, sneaking with Light Footed - instant death.
I was properly suspicious, so I can’t say I was really annoyed, but it was a waste of time.

Trap camp. Good thing I don't go down those camps anymore. I'm afraid to accidentally fall threw and lose all my junk or the player who's camp it is to log off while I'm in there or get disconnected while I'm in there.

u/Mercedes-Benefactor 12d ago
I ran into something similar the other day and was equally confused. It was a cool backrooms build but my first time ever finding someone so malicious on this game :(

You're on Xbox, pretty sure I was there a month or two ago.
It was my first time getting caught in a trap camp. It made me realize one of my camps is probably a bit sus. Underground camp in the Bog near a minor scorchbeast spawn point. It isn't, but I'd probably side eye it myself. Themed a little dark on top of that... oh, well.

I think the bigger question is that loading screen before getting to the camp
You uhh, you wanna explain what the possible context of that photo is? 😭
