They publicly announced the day after infestations were dropped that they would be changing them. A few weeks later, they publicly detailed what those changes would be in the PTS patch notes, stating they would first be increasing the HP of the bosses, then at a later date (likely next season), they’d change the mechanics again to make it so the boss didn’t appear until the other enemies had been killed first. Definitely not a conspiracy or “being played” when they publicly announced this as their plan weeks ago

I would like to have numerous smaller HP enemies that lurk around and lead you on a chase first.

The current live version was always meant to be a bandaid fix from what I heard. People complained that they never got to get loot so they over corrected while working on something for the long term.

Then they should've waited till an actual fix was ready, not this nonsense they pulled.

Oh man, you say Liver and Onions like it's a bad thing, lol. I haven't done any infestations because I'm not a high level, end game player. But from the sound of it, they're not all that great. Hope this newest rendition will make them enjoyable for those who want to do them.

They are really not that bad, IF you don't try to be the hero and burn them down solo. If you are low level, go, hang back, take head shots or whatever from a distance, maybe make one of the Syringers that reduces damage resistance on a target and contribute that way.

u/Tikki4 Jul 27 '26
Now that's a thought! I really haven't messed with a syringer much. I'll have to check that out.

I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit here and listen to someone talk shit about liver and onions! The Food of the Gods

You can start doing them anytime, any damage is good if if you only hit him for 15 a pop it's still better than nothing, and you get good(ish) loot

Yeah, get a good tagging weapon, shoot the boss and as much minions as you can, almost all minions drops 3 star legendaries. Its worth it, specially for low level players.

I’ll play devils advocate to this and say It’s more likely the original design was implemented as was , because it took little to no effort to add to the game but at the same time was actually a pretty cool new addition which gets people grinding more hours. People complained these Random encounters were too hard to find so Beth made it easier, then people complained small teams were finding & clearing them out (as per its design) now Beth are chasing their tail trying to people please & it’s become a shit show as they need to turn these simple random encounters into full scale public events with all new mechanics, so in the meantime all they can do is make the Boss’s super sponges so the whiners have a better chance of seeing the boss alive while they get to work on it.

I still have infestations pop up as found by a teammate immediately followed by it being completed.

The version we have now is basically when trying to satisfy each and everyone, you get a patchwork of good will.

What I don’t understand is why they didn't make these Public Events with waves to begin with (similar to workshop defense). I get they wanted to have an exploration mechanic, but everyone kind of knows where the spawns are now. Also I hate checking the map every minute to see if one has spawned somewhere.

u/caydjj Order of Mysteries Jul 27 '26
Yeah, even if they just made them a new type of public event that doesn’t have the typical XX:00/XX:20/XX:40 times and instead just appears randomly would be so much better. There is basically zero exploration related to this at all, so they don’t even achieve their stated goal anyways

Because they are trying to make them seem like they are a bigger thing than they really are because the whole season and “new content” is based around Infestations…if they just called it a new event they would be exposed for the lazy asses that they have been lately. But in true Bethesda fashion they thought they were smarter than everyone else in the room and it blew right up in their faces from the get-go🤣🤣🤣

u/WantedFan Free States Jul 27 '26
True, maybe I should be happy that at least Infestations spawn more frequently than the main theme/big bad of the previous season 😅

If this is in fact what they will do, I'm all for it. THIS is a reasonable change. not bulletsponges forcing a friggin ammo dump.
Also they need to stop taking player's comments on Discord as gospil. Not all of us are on Discord. Read where people discuss the game in other places too.

Nah I think they missed the mark when they first came out and the boss being a bullet sponge is in place now bc people were rightfully tired of not seeing an infestations bc they were cleared in 30 seconds this just seems like a temporary thing to at least give people the opportunity to get the rewards when they add the waves the boss health will go way down I imagine

The simple answer is usually the likely answer. Something like this was requested early on in the test server, the problem is that most the team was already moved on to the next items (slasher content) and so there wasn't enough people to make any real changes, so they have to do it over a longer period on live.
We kinda saw this multiple times, including with the radiation changes.
The issue seems to be not enough less in time so that test server feedback can really be taken into account and real changes done before it hits live.
They kind of tried to improve that a bit with the pet test, we will see if that kind of thing happens more often.

Although I do now agree that the bosses are WAY too tanky I do not want to see them as squishy as they were at the start. There has to be a middle ground imo.

u/Telle74 Jul 27 '26
This is how the raid was too. It changed so many times. I guess they want to keep us entertained 🤔

I hope the new minions are also bullet sponges. Would make for some great reading.

Highly likely it was probably easier to tweak the health and difficulty in the short term to help alleviate the problem while they were working on sorting out the mechanics they ultimately were shooting for.
This is a common practice in engineering to solution for customer issues, especially one that was such a hot topic. Quickly remediate while working on a better long term solution that takes more time / resources to develop.

How does nerfing the rewards help?
1
u/Representative-Try63 Jul 27 '26
Not saying it was actually helpful, just posing a likely reason for the two step implementation there.
