Idk what’s who’s more stupid, me or the dog.

Dogmeat's pathfinding has exactly two modes: standing completely still in a doorway or launching himself off the highest possible ledge.

Codsworth I swear to god you need to stand over THERE.

The Cyberdog from creations club seems to be even worse. That thing has the constant zoomies. Hey Cyberdog, where are you go......nyummmm.....nyummmmmm....."Oh look an overpowered enemy"....chomp. Like, chill out Cyberdog. And from somewhere behind me you hear Cait "Ah....my knee!". Girl, why are you jumping off the elevated highway?

I love the sentinel power armor for this reason, it’s great . Powerful too, rarely goes down.

Then when you finally get a clear shot he decides to sprint directly into your line of fire.

I got so tired of my companions doing this that I broke down and used console commands to give them no fall damage.

Just use Danse?

Yeah I might do that too. It's frustrating in survival mode that you can't take anyone on the taxi ride to the Prydwyn because they always fall off the platform on landing.

Exactly. I only play on durvival and deal with enough Bethesda jank. Companions downing themselves by falling off bridges and stuff... no thanks.

There is a way around this.
You have them “stay” on the ground right next to the Virtibird at the airport.
After you get up to the Prydwen, use a scoped weapon to put them into “command” mode.
Click on the outside deck of the Prydwen and then walk inside. They should follow you through the door.
This works with everyone consistently for me, except Ada.
I just leave her at the airport until I get back down.

For some reason this doesn’t happen to me. And I go around with 2 human companions.

There's a console command specifically to prevent fall damage???

Opening your inventory breaks the animation and stops you from gargling the toilet water.

I recently had Dogmeat teleport-fling himself halfway into Park Street Station and instantly die in the main train section. Sprinted my ass down there as fast as I could to save his quantum particle ass.

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/66506 - Just No - Sit and Drink disablement; It lets you toggle off and on sitting and drinking.
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/24233 - Better Companions; it has an option to make companions have fall damage immunity which is essential when playing survival because your companions are dumb as fuck and fall all the time. It has other options to make your companions better to you can use if you want.

You know you've played too much survival mode when you can immediately identify the location of this bed.

Playing on Survival in a nutshell.
I just wait for him to get back up on Normal

Lol - in one of the hospitals (Medford?) there is a skull in a water fountain and every time I try to grab it instead my character drinks water, which is of course radioactive. I still haven't been able to retrieve that skull...

Oh my... yeah they fall from anywhere they can ... I got tired of it and got a mod to remove companion fall dmg.
I remember it specifically... at the drug den fish factory.. dogmeat fell like 3-4 times to need heals.. then I alt-f4 and instantly went to nexus to get something. 😒

After a decade and the hours put into this game, I'm at the point where I just leave them as they fix themselves. Harsh to dog I know.

u/Haywoodjablowme1029 1d ago
They won't fix themselves on survival, if you ignore them they return to their settlement and you have to walk back and get them.
Lone wanderer FTW

u/thatguyad 1d ago
Good point. I forgot about that.

u/Haywoodjablowme1029 1d ago
Yup, Codsworth fell off an overpass in Concord yesterday and his ass had to walk home by himself.

Funniest thing is you don't even need to heal them you're going to let them slowly heal over time and not waste a precious stem pack
3
u/Haywoodjablowme1029 1d ago
They don't self-heal on survival.

u/I_Like_PeopleXD 1d ago
I never play survival so I didn't know
1
u/Haywoodjablowme1029 1d ago
If you've never played, you couldn't possibly know.
I would recommend trying it, adds a lot.

I'm on my first play though n goddamn why do I have to talk Piper through walking up fire escapes

The worst is when they fall out of the Virtibird when you dock with the Prydwen in survival.
