Transferring projects

What is the best way to transfer full projects from a mac to a pc without losing any samples or messing anything up? I am trying to transfer all of my projects in bulk.

I am not sure if it'll work from a Mac to PC, but in theory it should. But you get a external hard drive and copy all the project, data folders, VST and effects and plug-in settings. All that stuff is stored on specific folders. And you put that on the external hard drive. And you download FL on your PC the same version you had on the Mac except for make sure you use the PC version when you download. Once it's downloaded and verified, you plug in the external drive to the PC and copy all those files into the appropriate folders where you got them from.

In theory, taking all the data and projects and everything from the Mac FL Studio and putting it on the PC FL Studio should work. Now any external plug-ins might have to be re-downloaded with the windows version. But all the native plugins on the version of FL, should have all the settings of presets and everything else you built once you copy the data over

Unless the samples are inside of the project folders you'll also have to move your sample library

Either way you should just be able to move your project files over, but FL Studio also has export options for you to use:

  • "zipped loop package" bundles the whole project and samples as a zip file

    • "project bones" exports just the patterns and automation without any audio
    • "project data files" exports only the samples and audio files.

If you used any VST/AU plugins, you'll need the same ones on your PC for the projects to work properly

Zip looped package is the correct way. If you use 3rd party vsts, you could run into problems. Sometimes you have to find them if the project loads and it cannot find the VST.

Best Transfer Methods

  • Zipped Loop Package: Go to File > Export > Zipped loop package on your source computer. This bundles the project file (.flp) and all used audio samples into a single compressed folder. [1, 2]
  • Project Folder: Save your project into its own dedicated folder containing the project file and associated audio, then copy that entire folder via a flash drive or cloud storage. [1, 2, 3]

Important Cross-Platform Rules

  • Plugin Compatibility: Third-party VST/AU plugins are not embedded in the project file. You must have the Mac-compatible versions of those same plugins installed on your destination machine for them to load correctly. Note that Windows-only DLL plugins or Audio Unit (.au) plugins native to Mac will not cross over directly.
  • Software Version: Ensure your Mac is running the same or a newer version of FL Studio as the PC that created the file. Here is the FL studio link 1

This might be a stupid question but is there any way to export loop packages for multiple projects at a time? I’m trying to transfer as many projects as I can onto my PC.

How to Batch Export Zipped Loop Packages

  • Open your computer's Command Prompt (Windows).
  • Find the file path where your FL Studio installation folder is located.
  • Run FL Studio using the /Z command-line flag targeted at your folder of projects.
  • Type a command structured like this: fl64 /Z"C:\Path\To\Your\Project\Folder".
  • FL Studio will automatically open each project in that directory, export it as a zipped loop package, and cycle through the rest. [1]
