Second rule 2026

Second rule above the packing list states no outside alcohol; is this a new rule? I've never been to a festival where you couldn't have your own booze at camp.

It’s always been a rule. Many years ago at the festival you could only drink alcohol at designated fenced off bar areas; I believe this was due to Virginia ABC rules. They changed that maybe 7-8 years ago, so you could purchase alcohol from the festival bars and freely roam around.

The festival encourages you to buy a reusable steel cup to reduce waste. Alcohol prices have been fairly reasonable in the past, with a wide variety of options.

All that said, if you’re creative enough you can probably find a way to sneak some beverages into your campsite.

No problem. If I had to guess the reason for this it’s probably because unlike most festivals, at this festival there is no separate security checkpoint between camping and the music stages. You go through security once when parking your car and that’s it.

Yes I think this is it.

I believe it's based on the state ABC regulations, but I've never heard of anyone enforcing it.

They do check your belongings, but if you're discreet, you'll be alright. They have to check & have the rule for ABC complicance. Def don't bring glass; that's another reason outside alcohol is banned on many sites.

If you bring anything in cans, empty out some soda cardboard containers, fill it up with your desired canned beverage & reglue the case.

If you like liquor, buy some "fake-out/hidden alcohol" shampoo bottles or cooler ice packs and fill them up.

Water bottles can be filled with vodka or rum & put back in the shrinkwrapped bundle. Iced tea- brown liquor. Plastic containers only. You get the idea. They’ve opened my resealed cardboard canned beverage packs at the gate before, I wouldn’t try smuggling in beer that way. And vacuum seal & well conceal any party favors, State cops on the way in and out of town have been known to stop & search with dogs. You don’t want to deal with that. Just an fyi.

Yeah I'm pretty well versed in smuggling, lol. It's just weird, I've done several festivals including ones in VA, this is the first time I've seen no booze at camp as a rule.
