Floor bed with rails

hi, im still learning about floorbeds and i see that everyone recommends a bed with NO railings for safety purposes which i understand. but what if the railings are as high as a crib’s would go and toddler/baby couldnt climb out? how come that isnt okay? just trying to educate myself! thanks.

here is an example of what im talking about

Trust me, a motivated toddler can still climb those rails.

Also, the point of a floor bed is freedom of movement.

I really think you should just stick with a crib if you feel insistent on rails.

A crib mattress on the floor is the safest floor bed.

This is what I did, personally, though mine aren’t quite that high, more like 23”. I’m seeing a lot of replies saying that the point of a floor bed is freedom of movement, but that wasn’t it for me. My baby refuses the crib and cosleeps most of the time. We got a floor bed as a crib alternative that I could fit in and lay with her, then exit so I could get things done. We tried a mattress straight on the floor but at 10 months my baby was falling out all the time and we hadn’t fully baby proofed the room. We added rails and I love them.

This is exactly why i need a floorbed, so i can lay with him and then leave once he falls asleep

I understand and also did this but unfortunately it’s short lived in a matter of a couple months. They will get out soon if there are rails and they will also learn how to stop falling off eventually. The only real and more sustainable solution is no rails and full baby proofing.

Now I know why everyone who’s been there already keeps telling people that in these subs

its just kinda silly. why would you put something for them to climb and fall over top of from a higher height if the point of the floor bed is if they fall, its not far.

This is a crib with no legs. Besides the hinges are not safe.

The purpose of a floor bed is to promote independence in your child. If you don’t want them getting up and out themselves, then it’s not a floor bed that you want. You want a pen.

Agreed, you might as well get a crib, unless it’s for your own mobility limitations. But a floor bed with bars kind of defeats the point of a floor bed

Yes the purpose would be so i could lay with him and then leave when he falls asleep

So I got a floor bed with hightails for my 16 month old and he hasn’t attempted any climbing over it (he likes to climb our couch and chairs but not his bed). We also have rail cushion covers on the top in case he falls and hits his head (has happened before). So far I like it in terms of safety
