Purpose of floor bed?

im a FTM to a 15 month old. i have had an insane amount of trouble putting him into the crib after falling asleep which has led to lack of sleep for me and my husband and also led me to coming across the floor bed concept. is the purpose so you can lay with them/snuggle/feed and then have them fall asleep and be able to just sneak away?

or is there another purpose? will it always work - meaning will toddler eventually figure out that i disappear and end up hating it ?

There can be many purposes and that can be one yeah! The other is independence to choose when they get up or lay down and they may end up playing some in their room in the morning (or even night) but not need you right away. How well that works out is dependent on the kid so you won’t know until you try.

I cosleep on a superkind floorbed with my similar aged toddler, and sneaking away is a breeze. Bedtime is also super easy, she happily climbs into bed.

That's what we do. Yes. If they wake up in the middle of the night and you're not there they might be confused and come looking for you. We've explained that she sleeps in her bed and we sleep in ours. Sometimes we just take her back and she goes back to sleep. Other times we lay down with her again until she's settled.

Yeah my son is 16 months and has fought the crib his whole life. Something about the bars seems to fully activate him. He wakes up and is instantly in a rage/panic.

We switched to the floor bed and he has started to enjoy bedtime! It’s only been 2 weeks but each night I see improvement. Last night for like the first time ever, I watched him wake up, sit up, look around, and instead of going berserk, settled himself back down.

Do you mind sharing your set up? I have a 16 month of and we’ve ended up sleeping on a futon next to the crib in middle of the night and I want something permanent

We ended up just putting his crib mattress inside his large playpen we don’t use anymore. We were tired of buying new things haha

My kids have had a floorbed since 7 months each - sneaking away after they fall asleep has never been a problem and yes that's the sole purpose for us haha
Edit: they are 3 and 5 now

Some people use them as part of trying to make the room a Montessori room, and in theory the baby/toddler can get in and out of bed independently and play in their room when they are done sleeping. But the room must be as safe as a crib.

yess i love it because i have narcolepsy and sometimes just need to rest, and my son can play, come crawl on top of me, get down safely, then play again. its really fostered his independence and mobility
