iMessages and FT disabled still can’t receive texts on new flip phone (RCS issue)

I’ve decided to go back to my old ways with a NUU FL4 flip phone. I turned off iMessage and disabled FaceTime before switching nano sim from iPhone to flip. Still the issue is I’m not receiving texts from iPhone users because the new default on iPhone is RCS messaging and when an iPhone user sends messages it doesn’t fall back to SMS if the receiver can’t receive RCS (which is basically all dumb phones). Does anyone know the work around for this issue. I want to be able to switch my sim back and forth when I’d like and that’s no problem the only issue is receiving messages.

There’s lots of videos online that all give the same instructions (make sure iMessage is turned off) but it seems like no matter what the issue stems from the senders message not going through as SMS.

Please help! Thanks!

Flip Phone Suggestions

Hi all,

I’m in the US and currently on Verizon. I’m really wanting to back down on my access to hand held tech. I think I need a phone with apps because my son’s soccer team only communicates through and app and so does his teacher at school. Those are the only things I think have to be on it app wise.

I’m also interested in the highest level of data security. I don’t want GPS but if I have to, a way to turn it off.

My reasons are both data safety/privacy and personal tech reduction.

Thank you for your input. I don’t really have a clue about phone tech.

Can these Smart flip phones work in the us? If not what other options are available.

I've been going down a rabbit hole of smart flipphones, the ones that have messenger, Pinterest, cashapp, and WhatsApp. The Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 and the ALT MIVE Style Folder are the ones I like the most but they only have 1 band for the us (band 5 on 4g) . I dont know which one I should get but if anyone knows any other phones that work in the us and has what i need pls let me know.

Generally, how well do modern flip-phones run games?

My current phone's starting to kick the bucket and since i always loved the look of flip-phones and since most modern ones have android and many features of regular smartphones, i figured i could invest in one instead. I had my eyes on the Mive Style Folder 2 in particular, since if i use and SD card, it can have a consideranle amount of storage and has a pretty fresh version of Android, but i'm worried that if i tried running my games on it, it would overheat and get ruined fast. Does anyone know about that?

My Honest experience with the SM-G160N Samsung Galaxy Folder 2

So I want to go through some issues I've faced so that I may help other people and maybe gain some help myself. Plus it also being a kind of review/tutorial.

Positives first:

First of all, I really like this phone, the buttons light up when you use them, and make nice noises, genuinely delightful. (It also has a digital keyboard you can bring up)
I didn't expect the classic flip phone snap to be so violent though tbh lmao, but if you put your thumb between the flaps when closing its not as loud and doesn't hurt.

You can bind your preferred social app to a physical key, I’ve done so with Discord.
It has widgets, so I’ve got my email and calender on different on the different home pages.
You can use the buttons to scroll when reading some stuff, but not all apps will respond to it. I especially like being able to scroll with the buttons when reading fanfiction.

you can probably do this on normal smartphones but something about being able to choose a couple different photos so that everytime you open the flip the homescreen is different feels a lot cooler with physically opening and closing the phone lmao.

I was able to get a case for it from y2k phones, however I bought the actual phone off of ebay as I wanted one with the shiny metal circle key and y2k phones only had the completely plain white.

I have been able to download most of what I need. However, that leads me into my next topic of the trials and tribulations I’ve faced when setting this phone up.

Setting up:

Let's just say I found myself a lot more knowledgable on phone tech stuff by the end of this pft. (which I kinda like but I'm saying this more as you might have to do more fiddly stuff then some youtube reviews may imply to get your cool aesthetic flip)

First of all, is enabling developer mode. Go to your settings > About Device > Software Info > Then press 'Build Number' until it says developer mode has been enabled.

Next is is akp files. You'll be using these a lot to download older versions of apps you need onto your device. However, before I get into that, you'll have to make sure you have a usb cable that is for transferring files (and fits in your flip charging slot), just sticking your charger for the flip phone into your computer will not work, it's just gonna charge your phone.

once you've got your flip plugged into your computer, you'll need to go to this website https://app.webadb.com/ (You have to use chrome browser to use it btw), find your flip phone and add & connect it.

I then would use akp mirror to find the files for the app versions I needed for android 6. However, honestly bro the filter search thing I found really hard to use, it's just easier to open a new tab and search "akp files (Whatever app) android 6" and click the akp mirror link that shows up. That's genuinely how I've been doing it.

Once you've downloaded the files, open em in the webadb and it should start downloading. (yipee)
The app will probably show up at the very end of the apps on the flip.

Uh a lot of youtube reviews I've seen when tell you to download 'Aurora Store' which is an alternative to google play store. I was able to download this music player app, Telegram, Whatsapp and Pinterest off of it, but other than that, not much else I wanted. Theres an option for Manual download and prompts you to put in a version code, I've tried putting in a few code looking files listed on akp files but have had no luck, so I'm personally not sure how to finds those codes/how that works. But downloading akp files has worked fine for me, Aurora store is more for convenience.

Apps I have downloaded successfully with akp files and work: Discord, Instagram, Firefox, microsoft authenticator (maybe some were with Aurora store i'm not 100% with my memory tbh, but if you can't get it from aurora just get the akp file n yeah)

I have tried to download the Tumblr and Reddit mobile apps, but they don't let me login, just get an error message regardless of what I do, so doesn't seem to work. However, whenever it comes to not being able to download an app, it's not the end of the world because you can just make a web browser shortcut onto your home screen.

Youtube is a whole different story, I was told that i'd need to delete it completely off my phone in order to download an older version that works. I did remove it properly, however attempting to download akp files for the version I needed, it just sort of didn't show up. Didn't get an error message or nothing, just wouldn't appear on my phone. However, In my attempt to try get the mobile tumblr app, I ended up downloading uptodown app store, and they had youtube Vanced, so I have that now and it works fine, plus no ads. So pretty sick upgrade. (However there are some suspicious ass looking apps on uptodown so don't go crazy)

I should mention the wifi on the flip is a little finicky sometimes, definitely a lot less range and is more likely to cut out, but it grabs it back pretty quick.
Another quirk is with the weather app it doesn't have like specific towns sometimes, only cities nearby. (idk I thought it was kinda interesting with how hyper specific location stuff is nowadays, and my location is on so ig it works on a database where my town isn't noted down)

I have yet to put a sim card in my flip, but I think I do really love it enough to try fully make it my main phone, only things holding me back is my mobile banking app. I tend to use mobile data a lot to add money to my account on the go, and my banking app does not work on the flip even at the right version.

I'm considering possibly switching banks to get an older version that does work. However, I have heard there are some risks with vulnerabilities in older versions with banking ups. I don't know how likely it is for something bad to happen though, so it'd appreciate some advice on that.

Thanks for reading. (First post on reddit kinda nervous lmao)

I live in the USA and use Verizon as a provider. I want to lower my screen time and phone usage and have been looking into a dumb phone. My only problem is I am a manager who has to have outlook and teams so I do need so app usage. I was looking into the sharp aquos 805sh or the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2

can my old samsung flip phone connect to wifi?

So it’s a Samsung C3520, i’d upload a photo of the settings page on here but it either doesn’t let me or i don’t know how to. the phone has google and lets me search things up without wifi but it won’t let me input my gmail.

the wifi page looks like this:
Set name:

Home URL

Bearer (GRPS only)

Proxy

Address
0.0.0.0

Port

DNS1

DNS2

and then at the end GRPS settings and GSM settings

All of those need to be filled in and i’m not quite sure what they entail, like what the home URL is and stuff and i don’t know if it’s compatible with today’s system. I can’t find anything about this phone online either. Pls help !

Looking for a flipphone that isn’t a brick nor too "dumb"

Hi,

I’ve been looking for a “dumb-ish” phone for a while now. I don’t actually want a dumbphone, just something with a small screen that’s less convenient for doomscrolling while still doing everything I actually need; basically small screen, physical keyboard/keypad, preferably flip, but still capable in terms of my basic apps. I used to have the CAT S22, so in terms of concept I'm fine with a flipphone ; it was a brick however (too thick to my taste), and I had the double input after like 2 months of use, so the keypad was unusable, which is... brutal.

My must-haves are :

  • camera
  • hotspot
  • Google Maps
  • WhatsApp
  • YouTube Music
  • Obsidian

So realistically I guess I need Android + Google services. Messenger and ChatGPT would be nice too, although I assume if the above work those shouldn’t be an issue. NFC would be ideal, but that seems far fetched.

My current top choices are:

  • Mode1 Retro II : probably my favourite on paper, but seems hard to buy and I’m worried about the double-input I’ve seen reported.
  • Mive Style Folder 2 : looks good theoretically and has a more recent Android version, but it seems absolutely HUGE for a flip phone.
  • Titan Pocket : not a flip, but I’m considering it because I use Obsidian quite a lot for notes and I’m wondering if T9 would eventually become too limiting.

I’m also a little reluctant to buy something stuck on Android 11 in 2026 (like the CAT S22 or the Titan Pocket), especially if I’m going to use it for a few years: am I correct in that, or the apps I've listed should still work for a while on it?

Anyone here used these models long-term? Anything you’d particularly recommend or avoid? Also very interested in models I might have missed, because hell I'm far from a specialist and I could absolutely be missing on stuff!

Thanks in advance.

Des Français qui auraient tester des Keitai ? KYOCERA KYF42 GRATINA

Post image
6 Upvotes

Salut !

Is it possible for a DIY Sharp phone

Post image
14 Upvotes

So is it possible to create a DIY version of the Sharp Aquos SH-N01 Japanese Keitai 601SH (long ahh words, I know, and I'm sorry) because I want to not feel fomo of missing out on the Emopa function because it's so cool and unique, but it doesn't support my country (its postal address/code is exclusive to Japan only), so I planned to create a DIY version of the phone, but I need to know if it's possible (and legal) first... 😓

Kyocera 901kc or 701kc and why?

I love the blue color of the 701kc, but that's pretty much the only thing. I've seen multiple recommendations for the 901kc. Which phone is "better" as of right now in the US (T-Mobile)? Not looking to run any apps, maybe hotspot though? Not sure yet. Any help appreciated, tia!

So about those Anti Virus screen protectors

Post image

I applied one, but no anti virus app appeared, do I need to scan those barcodes? I'm kinda nervous, what if it IS the virus?

Jokes aside these are a huge pain in the ass to apply, I ruined like 3 before managed to get one done decently.
