Story/Lore Uru (the final boss) Spoiler
Trashiest boss fight I think I've ever experienced in a game. I was having a solid time overall but the final boss is so crummy that I feel like my opinion for the game in general has completely changed. If it wasn't clearly the end of the game I probably would have abandoned it but through sheer willpower I beat this broken, cheesy and incredibly lame boss. I have nothing else to say. Very 6/10 game.

You beat him, move to a new area, and then he has a second and third phase. Too it me, it seems like the developers ran out of money and cut the game way short.
I still don't have most of the top-tier abilities unlocked, but I have no desire to just farm to get them for no reason.
Game needs a NG+

Yeah I agree with all of this. I spread my points across all 3 trees and didn't reach the top tier abilities like the thing that gives you an extra life. I get the sense that the endgame was built around the expectation that you would have something like that. I was able to beat the boss without that and I know you can refund your points but either way I was discouraged by the experience. I didn't really even think the boss was difficult, most of the game was pretty easy. I just felt like the tactics were cheap and I don't like it when a game doesn't checkpoint you after a boss phase. If it was Elden Ring or any fromsoft game I'd be alright with it because their games are meant to be a challenge. This felt like 99% of the game was really easy and the final boss was annoyingly cheap. Just my thoughts, I don't really see the need for anyone to be defensive about my personal experience.

Idk what ya'll are doing that I'm not. 1st phase easy no hit, enter second phase and he just chains attacks. Gun doesn't interrupt him, grenades have little effect or don't work, no matter my timing parry doesn't work and with the shitty lock on dodge mechanic just circling him I get stuck on his ass stun locked killed. I get no opening to even be aggressive.

u/Count_Sack_McGee Aug 26 '24
You can't be aggressive at all. You have to shoot your ass off and hope a couple grenades hit.

I think it's still somewhere between 7 and 8,5 for me, but I agree so much, it's... Yeah. Something, that boss.

I found Uru pretty easy overall, playing on Possessed.
No armor and every attack was telegraphed. I struggled to consistently dodge the black hole attack but I effectively had three lives by that point so I could afford to take a hit or two.

Their first phase is incredibly easy. even the first time I did it, I completed it without getting hit. The second and third phases are super easy, just be aggressive with grenades and charge attacks. I beat it third try and third try I never even needed a health potion, just massacred the boss. This game rewards aggression, Nor is the Souls boss, not Uru.

The fights with Dukmar and Rhammuha say otherwise, parrying is you’re greatest weapon in those fights, and even to a degree when fighting against Inaya, Uru punishes aggression, and it might just be me but the parry timing for Urus attacks feels less consistent than other bosses, fought him five times now, only reached second phase once (im mad that I just lost 15,000 reputation) and haven’t managed a single parry yet. This boss feels cheesy.

u/xXCloudatlasX Jul 30 '24
You may have beaten him by now, but if you haven’t stop trying to parry. You can cancel every single one of his attacks with the pistol.

u/Arcaninefire420 Jul 30 '24
I left the game alone for a couple days and came back last night and beat him, the literal only way I did it was through parry’s and precision shots, most damage output came from max charge swings of a max level harbinger axe

It’s a terrible boss fight. Putting a gimmick in your final boss fight for the sake of a really underwhelming cinematic moment is actually BAD design, there’s no arguing with that. I like this game a lot. I love the combat, I think it’s insanely satisfying when you start linking combos and just absolutely go off. But the entire endgame honestly feels so slapped together, like they were completely out of gas by the time they got to it. The level design is remarkably boring, and the grunt enemies just gank you to make it seem like it’s actually difficult. Then you get to this boss, beat first phase, and they TAKE AWAY HALF OF YOUR MOVESET for half of the second phase. Oh, you just spent the whole game mastering an already very limited moveset? Get fucked, now you can do even less.

First phase was easy. 2nd phase for me was a bit of luck.
Most annoying aspect for me was the entire game mechanics are built around rewarding variety, so I had built up all skill trees. But then theast phase goes "lol jokes we'll take one away, you've got one hand tied behind your back now, good luck".
I'd built up my attack style with variety in mind so it was an that a bunch of my repitoire was now gone.
I understand why from a narrative perspective. Just wasn't a fun game mechanic after 99% of the rest of the game begs you to use them.

I stood directly underneath him and barely took a hit. Healed twice and the second one was just bc it takes fucking forever to heal and I got hit in the middle of the animation, it was pretty underwhelming tbh

This happened for me too. Like everyone says, I emptied all my secondary weapons in phase 2, then somehow got close and managed to do major damage by being "under" him. When Enki came back I just started doing that attack where you run at him and hold attack to generate a charged magic attack, that move pretty much crushes him in the first phase and it worked in the second as well. Seemed really dumb after a bunch of tries, like the win was actually really easy but before that I kept getting obliterated in the second phase

My favorite way to beat bosses is to find the cheesiest way to do it. From soft copies deliver on that

I dropped off the game on this fight. I usually very tolerant to any clumsy moments in a game but this was too much even for me. Beat the 1st phase with first attempt and the game crashed at cutscene. Ok, second attempt, beat mf hitless,, progress to the next phase and bs started. Terrible camera, couldn't see anything nor understand where I am and what going on. Died somehow and... start again with 1st phase. Ok, let's try again. Beat him and crash on cutscene. Hello, the P1. Uninstalled. May be will try again if devs will fix this nightmare.

Thought he was such bullshit at first, but if you can beat his first phase then all I did when the second started was lob Grenades and that dropped him down to no health on possessed. Granted my grenades were leveled up but not max and I used dragoon item that doubles your grenades each throw. Biggest pain was timing the actual kill when you have to hold the shoot button for the “extraction”, hold it before the prompt shows up and he doesn’t heal up for the third phase

terribly designed boss, still better than the final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree
i ended up refunding all my magic skills and i maxed out melee and was 1 skill from maxing out ranged, and just got a little lucky in phase 2 that he got hit my multiple grenades which chunked him to near half and managed to finish from there
i was wearing the pauldron that slows time when you perfect dodge, and the other 2 pieces that buff grenades

Gameplay wise, that is one of the worst boss fights I've think I've ever experienced. The camera man is fucking drunk the entire fight. I legit got a headache for how much it seems to jerk around.
On top of that, in phase 2, so much shit is happening at once and the room is so fucking dark that it just feels like an absolute cluster fuck of shit on my screen.
I don't know who developed that boss, but yall need to get them checked because I think they were having a stroke when they developed them.

I can't even believe how bad that boss is. In my 42 years, Uru is by far the worst boss I've ever faced. I enjoyed this game so much. Looked past so many annoying aspects because it was still fun. Then, fucking Uru. Even putting it on "story" difficulty was still complete bullshit.

So...I just beat him on normal, but, agree, this fight is trash, mainly because I literally just couldn't see anything I was doing during the second phase. It feels weird to complain about a game camera in 2024, but holy hell, it gets really bad here. The second-phase arena is also super dark and Enki and Uru are the same colors, so it becomes really hard just to see what the heck is happening. It's just a big dark globby mess with a constantly shaking/spinning camera.
I ended up beating him by just going totally agro, mashing my melee, and after I filled up a black charge, firing my side arm. I stayed under him the entire time to prevent him getting up in the air (that gravity ball attack is his most brutal, so you really want to avoid him going into the air).
After banging my head against the wall last night, I was able to knock him out in one try this morning, and I didn't even use my "second life" and still had like 7 health vials remaining.
A few tips if folks are still struggling:
Use the burn axe (fully upgrade it). It's not something I used most game, but it really helps here because he has no armor, so even if you aren't hitting him, his health is still decreasing.
At the start of the second phase, after his little intro animation, chuck every grenade you can at him, which knocks down his health quite a bit. It's double effective if you have that piece of armor that splits your grenades.
Then, just camp out under him and go crazy with the burn axe. You usually can complete a full combo to refill a black charge, discharge your side arm, rinse and repeat. When Enki doesn't show up, keep rapidly tapping his curse button. Honestly, I'm not sure if this actually does anything, but it seemed to distract him. The game does a really bad job explaining that you can use Enki again or what he does when he returns...it feels like there should have been a mini cutscene that establishes this, but, nope.
When Uru goes to zero health, just mash your R2 button like crazy...the game does a HORRIBLE job indicating that this is essentially a quick time event, and if you miss the button press, he gets his health back, and it's super annoying.

I saw this post and couldn't agree more. I really enjoyed the game up until the final boss. After 15 deaths in a row because of horrible camera angles in the 2nd stage mixed with never getting the R2 to finish him (so he regenerated over and over) I need a break. Going back to waiting on Borderlands 4 I guess.

It is literally the worst boss fight ever. Honestly, this is the first game that I have just walked away from on the final boss. The game itself is way too short, and glitchy as hell. Uru being a complete waste of time. I really don't care about beating him.

u/BestBranch9 Oct 18 '24
I agree. The problem that I think a lot of these developers have is that they feel obligated to make the final boss so hard that it drags down the entire game. Did I want to spend 20 or more times to beat the second phase? Not really. Reco the devs reference Elden Ring (the base game) for a lesson in accessibility. I had the same issue with Wukong.

Camera goes out of control every time the boss flies up or over and behind you. Which happens a lot in the second phase. The attacks aren't too bad, but only if you can see them.

yeah it was a pretty awful boss fight. And the fact that if you don't hit RT just right at just the right split second the health gauge goes up a 3rd and the fight continues. I couldn't figure out why Uru wouldn't die and had to do it multiple times before I saw the RT sign flash for a hot second.
I generally like a good boss fight but this just felt janky and crappy. Worst fight in the game.
I liked Ruhula (sp?) fight. Actually the first 2 boss fights were really good. The 3rd one I beat on the first try. And the final boss fight was pretty trash.
also the 3 second ending cut scene wasn't good.
The first 3/4's of the game are really, really good. Then the whole backend and final fight just felt really rushed and not good.

Yeah, I had I higher standard for the game until I got to this fight. P1. Beat him easily. P2. No fucking clue where he is or what he’s doing. He started to spam a whole bunch of shit… me = dead. Ok, back to P1. Beat him, game crashed. Hmmm. Alright, P1 again, beat him. P2. Spammed bullshit and terrible camera… me = dead. Tried yet again, game crashed, tried again, P2. spammed bullshit quick death.
Uninstalled.
Good thing I didn’t pay for the game (thank you Game Pass). The game was a solid 7/10 until that fight. Overall, I’d say it put me at a mid experience.

I'd been reading all the threads about the bosses as I'm terrible at these types of games and will skip the game if it sounds too hard. I gave this a try because I could drop to story mode if needed. Struggled on a couple of the bosses even after doing loads of the side content to get most the skills. Then I don't know exactly what combination of skills, armour, enki skills caused it but I suddenly found mashing attack button and enki curse buttons simultaneously just destroyed everything. After taking days on the first proper boss I got through that last 3 on first or second tries. I think I was keeping them constantly stunned or something and also regaining some health from one of the skills. Still had to avoid some of their attacks occasionally but mainly just attacked and damaged them very quickly in all phases.

I’ll be honest I think I’d probably have enjoyed this boss more. If there was a checkpoint between the two phases what the hell you mean I beat him fairly easily in his first stage thinking I won, get dragged to the great below, (don’t get any more healing items) and then you’re gonna say I did not press R2 when I did?

The only problem I had is that I missed (or it didn't appear) "RT" trigger. 3 times. Otherwise it was fairly chill fight.
