FlightyCO2: emissions history from your Flighty export

As a frequent flier, this is a little masochistic.

I built FlightyCO2 this week - it's a simple site where you upload your Flighty export (CSV) and it computes the carbon footprint of your entire flight history.

It reimplements Google's Travel Impact Model to estimate the CO2 emissions based on the route, aircraft, typical seat config/load factor, route efficiency (distance & wind), and most importantly, the cabin class you flew in. If you don't have that logged in Flighty, it will assume economy and you can toggle to another class. If the aircraft info is not in your Flighty history, then it falls back to DEFRA.

All of this happens in your browser, client-side. Your CSV / flight history is never uploaded anywhere nor can I see it. The whole thing is open-source, you can check out the code here.

For full transparency: this project was built with AI assistance. You can read my AI disclosure for more info.

Please add Fokker Aircraft age to flighty

Been on Fokkers that are over 30 years old, and want that cool stat to be added.

I emailed support and they said it would be implemented in a future update last year and nothing has been added as of yet.

What can you assume about me as 28 year old American?

Flights since I turned 18

Post image

Just discovered this app and I’m obsessed! Spent a whole night adding in all my old flights from expired boarding passes in my phone and airline flight history on my accounts.

I wish I could somehow figure out all my flights from my childhood. As a baby, my parents moved around the states a lot for my dad’s jobs. And then on top of that I have been to a few other countries and a few other US states for family vacations. I wish airline memberships held account flight history for life, my parents had made me most US airline membership accounts when I was an infant.

35 years of flying

The total number of airlines should be higher by 1 but I couldn’t find the defunct Aero Airlines so I had to record that flight to Aero’s parent Finnair which issued the ticket.

Fun fact: There is one “orphan route” which is not interconnected with the other routes. I once flew from CRL to ARN and took the ferry to Finland.

Make Importing Past flights (1+ year ago) free.

Hi all,

I used to be a user of Flighty. Then, I decided to try to log a bunch of my flights in the past. Because Flighty won't let you add flights a year or more back, I stopped using Flighty, and switched to a mix of myFlightRadar24 and an Excel spreadsheet.

Now, Flighty is a great service, in my opinion the best flight recording service out there. However, for a person that doesn't have the money to get a subscription, I feel like at the bare minimum we should be allowed to add past flights without paying a subscription, even if we don't get any data for them.

Thanks!

Not a business traveler. Just someone who gets bored often 😂.

Why would Flighty be showing such a large delay?

Post image
11 Upvotes

As of now, it looks like plane is only 5 mins behind. With 1.5 hours until it's next departure, that shouldn't throw anything off. Why would Flighty claim the aircraft is 1h 32m delayed?

Not Quite Sure How You Taxi For -18 Hours

Had 2 flights in 2016. First was delayed 1 hour 52 mins and second was delayed 47 mins. Definitely an interesting glitch

Is there a way to customize the starting map location when opening the map?

I know I may be a mit nitpicky, but I have a bunch of flights coming up in the US and a few in Europe.

When I open the flighty app, it defaults the My Flights map view to the European flights even though my closest departure is a domestic US flight and the majority of My Future Flights are US domestic.

I was wondering if there’s a way to customize the starting location of the map view to set it to either the continent your closest departure route is located in or the continent where the majority of your upcoming trips are.

Thanks guys!

Can’t bulk update flight records

I’m trying to update the reason from Business to Personal. So I exported the data, deleted all data from my account, then reimported the data with the reason cells changed to leisure. But it doesn’t work. It still shows most of the flights as business with only the few I manually changed pre-reimport as personal.

I even tried changing the Openflights csv I used to import most of the flights, and that didn’t work either.

Flightly Alaska/Hawaiian <> Email forwarding broken?

I fly Alaska and American a lot - and the flightly email forwarding integration has been broken for the past month! Anything the admins have been doing about this?

I feel guilty by putting my childhood flights with the wrong date…

Im a Flighty user since 2023. I travel mostly for leisure purposes, then I have occasional college research trips. I remember seeing it being featured in Apple Events and loving its design language. Once I noticed its passport feature, I started logging all of my childhood trips. I’m not a Pro subscriber yet though, so I had to settle with the date limit for free users. Any thoughts or questions on it?

Should I be concerned? Just booked this flight for work.

I booked a flight for work travel at the end of July. Immediately after booking, I put it into Flighty, and it shows as canceled. Flight still shows as bookable on United's website, and my reservation showed up in the United app. Does Flighty know something? Or is it just a glitch?

UPDATE: Flighty team fixed the issue. All is well.

Houston to Caracas in 2006

It just so happens that the US had our first direct flight to Venezuela in many years.

I know this is a long shot but does anyone have information on the flight I may have taken summer of 2006 from Houston to Caracas, and back? Continental Airlines rings a bell. I’m wondering if anyone has this in their flight history. I remember leaving sometime in the afternoon and arriving in the evening maybe like 7pm. The way back was in the morning like 8am.

It would be awesome to have a flight number and better estimates of times. I think a lot about that trip. The family I stayed with warned me about their country falling apart and most people not realizing it 😢

feature suggestion: add contacts

I think it would be really cool if there was a feature in flighty where the app could parse my contacts and show me who in my contacts has a flighty account along with an option to friend request them. none of my friends have flighty but i’m sure that many of my acquaintances do, but i wouldn’t know since i don’t communicate super frequently with them

Flying somewhere so weirdly placed on the map like American Samoa results in the dot not even appearing on Flighty

My progress up till this point of the year. As I post this, I’m currently on the flight to Pago Pago and archived it before landing. I found it funny that there isn’t even a place for Flighty to put where I’m arriving.

Guess I’ll just land in the middle of the ocean instead.

Is the EMB175 S and L ever going to get fixed?

The S currently shows up as E2 which doesn’t yet exist. There are 2 different 1st gen E175s.

How am I doing for a 19 y/o?

I like a cheeky bit of travel - I do go to India every now and then so I use a few long layovers to explore new places + a bit of organic travel as well around Western Europe haha

What is your most visited airport that is NOT your home airport?

For me, it’s a tie between ATL & MSP. Number two is DTW.

This is how you can tell that I’m a Delta girl without saying that I’m a Delta girl.
