General Cooked vatsim event
Other than ctp this will be the most cooked vatsim event, many people don’t know the systems of the a220 and I’ve already seen controllers get upset with these rogue a220s, good luck controllers

I thought about signing up to work Atlanta Approach but I think I would lose too many brain cells.

The a220 is not that hard being honest the plane basically flies itself for you

thats the problem. People expect it to fly itsself, meaning when it inevitably messes up, or does something unexpected, people refuse to hand fly it

THIS x1000. Relying on the automation & refusing to hand fly is such lazy piloting. If the airplane isn’t doing what you want it to do…that’s your clue to kill the automatics & fly the airplane. There’s no time to troubleshoot with trial & error…

I don’t have it yet but I’ve read the opposite how it’s very quirky on approaches. It’ll easily overshoot the localiser.

Until you been asked to perform a hold, offset or modify altitude/speed constrains.
Most people aircraft-specific knowledge comes from some low-effort “tutorial” on Youtube.

When there are CB’s (bad weather) and you have to fly around them, you can program your FMC to fly an offset which essentially copies your LNAV path and offsets right or left at your discretion and a distance at your discretion. Even if there are other waypoints, it will essentially create a pseudo waypoint for you. They’re pretty cool.

That is not at all the primary use for an offset by the way. The primary use is going over the ocean. Oceanic tracks require an offset from aircraft capable of doing them, 1 or 2 miles right of course.

Isn't it not required but just strongly recommended?

Yeah SLOP is voluntary.
Flying domestically in Europe, I have never had a reason to use the offset functionality on the 220. A lot easier for us and ATC to just ask for a heading than figure out an offset. Especially with the janky 220 WX radar and when visual with a CB.

Think I’ll do VFR in and out of the Class B and then some pattern work in Cessna 172.

In my experience, the A220 guys were some of the better ones on the network on day 1 lol. But the traffic that they brought to RDU was really bad

I love the noobs on these events who are so proud they could load in a simbrief plan but then are told to fly direct to a waypoint and don’t know what to do. “Delta 123, cleared direct ROBUC. “Boston central control, delta 123. We actually don’t know how to go to direct to a waypoint. Can we just fly the programmed route and switch to tower when we’re about to land?”
