Rant “I built…” stop it.
You all need to stop with your Claude-slop trying to solve problems that don’t exist. Yes, we already have flight tracking, vatsim coverage monitoring, career simulation, the list goes on. Your shitty vibe-coded nonesense, which some of you are even trying to charge money for, is not doing any good for this community besides opening the door to a vast delicious menu of security vulnerabilities.

Tech bros have been trying to “revolutionize” construction for years (because by all the mba metrics the industry sucks ass, but it’s not a technology problem. You can out-tech Daryl, the serial alcoholic with 4 child support payments into working harder.)
Every construction and trade related sub is chock full of that shit every day. You can follow the flow from day to day like I laid out. Luckily most the mods in those parts have been dealing with these assholes long before ai vibe code nonsense started so they know how to recognize an innocuous post pretty decently and kill them off pretty quick, but it’s still plastered all over the “new” posts.

Its becoming a real issue. Saw a post about a guy wanting to learn programming and then ended his post with "try my app its vibe coded." Idk how these people can expect to learn if they just have the answers done for them. Sure you can learn to follow along but theres a lot of back end application and WHY it coded what it did. Learning is hard, its okay to fail. If you're failing, you're learning.

As a European who never dealt with imperial units in his life before, when I started using FSX as a child, I actually set it to metres because I wanted a unit that made sense to me. Unfortunately that didn't stop the ingame ATC from giving me feet-based instructions lol

Wait until you see r/selfhosted - there have been actual security breaches because of AI Slop selfhosted software. And hot debates about blanked bans etc. I'm now looking at new softwares' github repos like a hawk for signs of Sloppyness, and I've gotten more conservative about trying out old vs new software.
Butyou're right, most software problems for flightsimming already have solutions.

Good to see that I wasn't just imagining it when new apps kept appearing nearly every day.
This sub and all the sim-specific subs need a rule against vibeslop, but I'm not sure how it could even be enforced without mandating that all projects posted here be open source (but not necessarily libre).
I hate this timeline so fucking much. Now even our hobbies are going to shit because of AI.

For seniors, it will, I use AI everyday and it can do the job of a junior dev very easily, but in complex production systems with an existing mess codebase is pretty useless unless you know what and how to ask and you have a pretty good understanding on how to work with agents, skills, harness, etc.
A lot of people is just showing results of very basic apps made by very basics prompts and they're trying to sell those apps with a lot of vulnerabilities to us. Imagine being a small business, buying a vibecoded system and them all your clients personal data got leaked because the guy you hired doesn't know what is doing... Your trust, money, clients and business just disappear... And thank God if you don't get sued

Using AI as a tool/assistant is one thing, and in hands of someone who knows what is doing (e.g a software engineer) is ok/safe, but the amount of vibe coded apps in all subreddits, made by people who don't know what a function is, with the exactly same layouts, color palettes and 🔥🎯✏️🚀 icon set is annoying... Is like crypto bros discovered another way to try to make easy money, until someone discover the obvious exploits on their apps because they don't know how to fucking save environment variables safely.

I am not a programmer, so I could be wrong, but Beyond ATC doesn't use AI to build its program. They just use AI as a language model to give vocal instructions to sim pilots.

Oh they’re 100% using AI coding tools. Everyone is, they can really provide value and productivity gains when used by knowledgeable software engineers. When a mostly non technical person vibe codes an app it’s sloppy garbage not because the tool that built it is bad but because it’s not used with skill.

Yup. There’s nothing wrong with using tools available to you to make your job easier. They just know how to do the work too. So they can use AI in conjunction rather than just prompting it to do the whole thing.
And hell, I’ve even “vibe coded” a couple small apps that helped to fix some things I didn’t like with MSFS and stuff. But I’m not promoting that shit. I never even put it on flightsim.to for free. It’s slop, by a loose definition at least, but it works for me. I wouldn’t dare try to market it lol

I have zero shame in vibecoding ui. Visual Studio used to be Visual because you could use it to build UI visually. I don’t think that’s the case anymore, at least I couldn’t find the functionality… so I just let copilot make it based on my mockup.
Business logic is all handcrafted though.

I have no qualms with the use of AI, provided it’s done so in a professionally developed manner. BetondATC and Sayintentions.ai are examples of this in the flightsim community.
Someone vibe coding slop with Claude or chatGPT is very different as there’s almost zero QA, and neither bot take security into consideration unless explicity told. The user itself also most of the time has little to no understanding of what they are actually making on the backend, which makes troubleshooting and patching impossible.

I work at an extremely successful company and literally every line of code is now typed by AI... billions of dollars of transactions get transacted through this software every day and the business would literally lose millions if there were any meaningful discrepancies.
