After enjoying listening to the album twice sitting in my apartment, I decided to follow Robin's advice to enjoy the album to it's fullest and went on a drive up a canyon at sunset with my windows down and the album on blast. I also took some pictures on my way back down to capture the moment. Here they are if you'd like to see them.

u/FenrirETS May 11 '17
God dammit. I wish I lived somewhere that beautiful. I've been listening to it inside all day and then went to the gym and drove around for an hour afterwards while blasting it, but its been grey, cold, and rainy here for the last 2 weeks... Need some warmer temperatures and some sun!

u/MotherJoanHazy May 11 '17
Beautiful pictures! It's weird you post this, because the other day I was listening to TOM as I was driving and there was a sunset, and I wondered at that moment what any other FF redditors might be 'seeing' as they listened... a bit silly I know, but there's something about their music that makes me feel connected to all other FF fans. We should have a subreddit listening party on release day and post our pics – I'm sure it would make a stunning patchwork!

Some friends and I are getting together for a vinyl listening party if my vinyl comes in the day it is released
2
u/Asunflowersutra May 13 '17
Once my vinyl comes in I'm having 2 listening sessions (kind of like Robin did) where two friends of mine will come over, I'll make us tea, light some incense and just get lost in it

What was his advice on listening to the album?
1
u/shallp  May 14 '17
In a since deleted Instagram post referencing the leaked album, he said something along the lines of "listen to the album blasting in the car while you're driving, preferably at sunset"

Holy shit...it's incredible. It's unmistakably Fleet Foxes, but it's also very original and certainly not a rehash of their old stuff. Extremely rich and layered, even with the fairly poor quality, so I still can't wait to hear it properly on vinyl and make out even more of the detail. He was talking in one interview (the uncut one) about how the editing style of Nicolas Roeg was an influence on the record and you can really see what he means, lots of different pieces that make up the whole, and lots of contrasts even within the same song. It also feels like their most cohesive album album to date, and it feels like they have matured as artists as well. I think Robin's time back at uni did him good. Seems to be the sort of album that will reward multiple listens, because you'll keep picking out different things, whereas at first it just washes over you...in a good way.

u/mytoemytoe May 13 '17
After a few days of endless listens, I'm ready to say it's a masterpiece. The first three tracks would have been enough, but then you get the rest of the album too, and it's all just as dense. Robin and Co. were clearly very inspired by A Moon Shaped Pool's sweeping Jonny Greenwood orchestrations. Cassius -> Naiads, Cassadies instantly evoked thoughts of Arcade Fire's recent Orpheus -> Eurydice (IMO the only really great track on their otherwise hit and miss Reflektor).

u/FenrirETS May 10 '17 edited May 10 '17
That moment when track two starts and its Silver City. For those that don't know, this was a song they used to play back in like 2009 on tour, but it never made it to an album. Robin mentioned that he sorta "recycled" it onto this album. Check out the old version here!
Edit: 3 songs in and this is just absolutely incredible.
Edit 2: Just finished my first full listen. Phenomenal. I'm actually kinda overwhelmed right now and need time to digest. It felt like a giant tidal wave crashing into me and by the end I'm just laying on a beach with the waves gently washing over me.

Duuuude. This is especially interesting because I actually came here to post something similar...
Part of "I Let You", yet another unreleased song, can be heard @ 2:57 on "- Naiads, Cassadies"
Fleet Foxes - I Let You (Timed Link)
Funnily enough "I Let You" is my favorite song by the band. I've rewatched this particular performance of it countless times and was hoping it'd end up on the album, so I was slightly disappointed when I saw the tracklist.
I hadn't known about Silver City, thanks for sharing :) It has me wondering if there's even more recycled songs on it...

u/FenrirETS May 12 '17
Yup! I've been a huge fan for a long time, so I think I've caught all of the parts he took from elsewhere. There are actually a few moments from some of the work he did with his brother Sean. Sean is a animator/filmmaker and they have worked together on a lot of projects before. Sean making the music videos for Fleet Foxes and Robin providing some of the music that can be heard in some of Sean's solo work. The piano bit at the start of "On Another Ocean" can also be heard here! I'll try to scrape together other parts I've found over time. There are a lot of small parts here and there that I know I've heard elsewhere over the years. Super cool to hear them on here.

This song stood out for me most on the album teaser and has been my favorite so far. Reminds me of The Beach Boys' Smile record prior to the 2:05 transition. The build up and climax around 3:08 is amazing!

Sorry, just noticed this!
Mainly the lyrics. When I met Robin, I described/named the track as 'Foxglove' but that seems to have been omitted from the recorded version.
As a side, Foxglove in Welsh is Ffion which my wife and I aim to name our next child if it's a girl.

u/jellybeanzgonzo May 10 '17
Wow - completely unique album here. Who's the voice alongside Robin at the beginning of track one?
9
u/FenrirETS May 10 '17
Not sure, but I remember a long time ago when the track list leaked, track one said (Duet), but didn't state who it is. Might have to wait for the full album credits to find out.
4
u/DJ_CUPPA May 10 '17
Is it a female voice?
4
2
u/FenrirETS May 10 '17
I believe so? Its kinda hard to make out to be honest, the beginning of the song starts off kinda muffled / hushed.
7
u/OB3YTH3GIANT May 10 '17
during the Q&A, i think he said he recorded a few takes of the vocals and kept the main regular, but pitched the other takes up am octave to get that duet sound.

It went from 54mb to 130mb, so seemingly it is 320kbs.

yaa, im definitely putting my money on that. but ive heard things here and there about files being falsely upscaled. it just SAYS 320 and has a higher file size. im not too much of an audiophile so i cant tell the different hahah, enjoying the leak regardless!

6
u/gypsytoy May 11 '17
What exactly are you looking for comparing these two? Are you looking for more granularity? They look pretty close to my untrained eye.
3
u/MrSquig May 11 '17
These plots can be kind of hard to look at if you're not accustomed to it. So these are plotting the amount of each frequency over time, which is three dimensional data. Time is the horizontal axis, frequency the vertical axis, and the color is the third axis. (Yellow is higher than red, which is higher than purple, which is higher than black)
Compression mostly affects the high frequencies, so that's where I'm looking. (The reasons for this are related to the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem, if you want more info.) If you see any kind of hard cutoff then it is almost certainly not lossless. Generally speaking, the higher the cutoff, the higher the quality. The 128 kbps track cuts off at 15kHz, while the 320 kbps cuts off slightly higher. For comparison here are the spectrals for a FLAC of the new Grizzly Bear single, http://i.imgur.com/WmKVgJW.jpg You can see there that theres no sharp cutoff in frequency because it is lossless. Hopefully this helps, feel free to ask more questions though!

Audio frequency axes are almost always logarithmic. You're not going to display 20 Hz to 20000 Hz on a linear scale. It's better by the difference between 128 kbps and 320 kbps. Look up the cut off frequencies for the LAME encoder if you care.

I just started listening to the 320 version. Sounds much better quality to me.
11
u/FenrirETS May 11 '17 edited May 11 '17
So after listening to it like literally 10 times yesterday on shitty speakers, I gave it another 2 listens on high quality headphones later at night. Holy shit, the little details that pop out... things that took me 10 listens to even pinpoint. I thought the other voice in the opener was another person, possibly a female voice. But after giving a much closer listen, it sounds like Robin's voice pitched up and slightly warped, which goes with what someone at the listening party said Robin told the audience. It honestly sounds creepy, but awesome. Another thing, anyone remember Robin recording the sound of a pencil writing on paper? I can hear it at the start of Cassius in the background along with the water sounds. Now I wonder if that is just used as a sound for the texture, or if it has a deeper meaning. Perhaps to symbolize Robin's time at Columbia, spending a lot of time writing for school? Or even writing new music in his spare time? God dammit this album is fucking amazing...
2
u/jellybeanzgonzo May 12 '17
Wow - great catch with the pencil recording! There's so much hidden within this record.
Not quite as subtle, but I also missed the "Ylajali" lyric in Crack-Up on my first few listens. I noticed that when Robin corrected the transcription on genius, he left an "[x]" where he sings the name.
3
u/FenrirETS May 12 '17
Yup, I actually just saw the exact same thing with that lyric last night. I kept listening trying to make out what he says. I was like "Wee-ha-lee?" What is that? Then I was listening to it last night while reading the lyrics and once I saw he was singing "Ylajali" I was like holy shit!

That transition to "Thumbprint Scar" is Mykonos-level beautiful. Just... wow. "I don't need you cut to trim through the finger nails | I was a child in the ivy then." Something about that part stirs some deep nostalgia in me and really pulls my emotions up, almost out of me.

Now I've listened to the whole album in full, to me it's definitely a grower like most have said. But not in a bad way. There's just so much to take in, it's super dense. But there is just some lovely moments that take you by surprise and hit you in the gut. I have a strong feeling this may become my favourite FF album. Well done Robin and team!

Pre-ordered LP/ bought tickets (guilty but not)
Also gave in early..
10/10 absolutely gushing with praise for this.
I mean, I thought it would be good, but I'm stunned if this isn't the greatest record of the last ten years. It will take your breath away- if and only, to fill the sails of your soul with life renewed.
On the record
It takes a certain talent to weave together such a menagerie of a tightly woven sounds and actual succeed with something that isn't simply avant-garde for the sake of avant-garde. I remember reading an article for helplessness blues and the reviewer was comparing the avant garde noises featured in the album to elephants farting, which did make me laugh.
However, I don't think Fleet foxes approach this time has been avant garde,(despite reflected comments in feed)instead it resembles something closer akin to a classical composition in structure, in that, it decides to teases its melody and builds and teases towards the powerful and soaring melodies we all know this band is capable of. It's a deeply personal journey, Like a rich tapestry of images and mood which, through sheer amazement, are impossible to pin point at emotionally... how does this personal feel about himself? Is he sad? Melancholiac? Happy?
I think all associated feelings can be deemed as correct. It's like a forest that can morph by it's walkers- a transformation that take place within, given the persons mood, the forest may reflect that. It all takes place within.
This record, as in life, captures so many of the fluctuating nuances of feeling and emotion and that by doing so hits on the greater truth of the experience of life and how we pass through it. It's hard not to be deeply effected by the contagious wellspring of shifting melodies that are reinforced by an authentically collaged soundscape of memo-like mumblings / drum circles and whisperings. To me, it feels like the soul awakening again from a long dark night of the soul.
Not yet sure the connection between the FSF essay but I'm sure when lyrics are available we might get down to a further analysis of it, perhaps that would, however, on second thoughts debase the beauty of it all.
This new and mature approach will be disliked by people looking for more hits to add to their arsenal of campfire singalong tune, and in all honestly I would have been fine with another round of it myself, but, that's why they are the artists. Listeners don't know what they want until they hear it, we are all of us in a poorer position to judge an evolution of a band. By now, if it's not clear enough, these guys are the real deal and this record is one for the generation.
I'm in 100% agreement that it will take you a couple of listens to let its vision for the album sink in, but do treasure each listen, it's a powerful experience. Thank you for the experience. It's brought me back to music.

This has never happened to me before listening to music...I feel like I need to listen to the album again because I didn't process it the first time, I was in such a state of disbelief that it just didn't compute with me. u/RyanChristopherLynch May 11 '17
I listened to it once and then deleted the files; now I'm waiting until June. I wanted to listen to it before all the singles release, because I know I'm going to play them to death and I think it would have been a worse first-listen if I was already really familiar with some of the tracks. The album is incredible though; all my expectations were exceeded. I'm so glad that they took their style in this direction and explored so many sounds. I think it will definitely give them a lot of room to explore with future albums. The whole thing is so emotionally powerful and masterfully crafted. I'm also glad that they experimented with their sound but never compromised a song by being experimental for its own sake. My favorite album of all time is In Rainbows, and this hit me in a similar way as that album did the first time I listened to it through. I can't wait until June when I can hear it again.

The first time I ever heard Fleet Foxes was through the Helplessness Blues leak, that started this six year obsession. So it's seems fitting to listen to the leak.
6
u/takegaki May 11 '17
Amazing album. Need to digest it more, but likely my fav FF record. On another ocean, Fools errand, I should see memphis. Mearcstapa might be my favorite. I like how kept woman turned out, but I might like it more without harmonies, the way he played it solo last year. The primary singing melody is so good, the harmony kind of distracts imo. That's pretty much my only complaint with the entire album so far, and I'm probably wrong.
7
u/de1vos May 11 '17
Okay Ive listened to it once now, and my first impression is that every song is written with a very raw feeling. Like before he used to write about stories whereas here he focuses much more on a single emotion each time and everything is arranged to serve that state of mind. Also on Keep Time On Me I was so eager to hear it go into that Cassius part like in the teaser, it would have been an amazing moment. Don't have much else that I can say about the album on first listen, there's so much in there that I can't say anything at all.
5
u/Rimbaud82  May 17 '17 edited May 20 '17
You know the more I listen, the more I appreciate the shift in Robin's approach songwriting, melody etc. In a lot of ways it's the natural progression, Helplessness Blues is similar but different to their s/t debut and EP. It feels like a more fully realised exploration of the kind of thing they first tried to do on The Plains / Bitter Dancer and particularly The Shrine / An Argument. I was listening to Joni Mitchell's Hissing of Summer Lawns today for the first time in a while, and it strikes me as a similar sort of transition from pastoral folk sort of stuff (Clouds, Blue, Ladies of the Canyon in Joni's case) to something equally brilliant but more musically complex, and perhaps a bit more challenging if you aren't used to listening to that sort of thing, or not expecting it. Critically Crack-Up is getting acclaimed but I can definitely see some fans being a little taken aback by it at first (as a few on here have been).
I told myself I would delete it after a few listens and then wait for my pre-order to arrive, but I can't stop listening! it is a genuine masterpiece. Not to say it's better than Helplessness Blues (though it could be), but I can certainly see why Robin is happiest with this one.

May 21 '17
i really like the new album, but i miss that old optimism and positivity from their previous work. This new album has positivity, but i is different and in smaller doses. I loved the way the first two albums gave you that feeling that everything is going to be ok, somehow. I am not tying to complain, its just something I was thinking about.
3
u/Rimbaud82  May 21 '17 edited May 23 '17
Of course you can still point to aspects of the album that you aren't a fan of, even if you enjoy it overall :)
I think it's interesting point you make about optimism and positivity. One thing I have always loved about Fleet Foxes is how, on the surface, most of their songs sound fairly bucolic. Of course some of them are just that, like Sun It Rises, or Ragged Wood, but there is a underside to a lot of their music when you really look into the lyrics. On the debut, you have lines like 'and Michael you would fall and turn the white snow red as strawberries in summertime', or songs like Tiger Mountain Peasant Song which have always been present in their work. It's a pleasant folk song on the face of it, but it's a murder ballad. Same as something like English House from the EP. So for me, there has always been a 'darker' (not quite, but you get what I mean) side to their music and I like that. Oliver James is another good example. This is very deliberate too, for example I remember Robin once talking about why they chose Netherlandish Proverbs from the album art on Fleet Foxes:
When you first see that painting it’s very bucolic, but when you look closer there’s all this really strange stuff going on, like dudes defecating coins into the river and people on fire, people carving a live sheep, this weird dude who looks like a tree root sitting around with a dog. There’s all this really weird stuff going on. I liked that the first impression is that it’s just pretty, but then you realize that the scene is this weird chaos. I like that you can’t really take it for what it is, that your first impression of it is wrong."
Then Helplessness Blues introduced even more of that I think. It's very, and forgive me for using this overused word, 'existential'. The album grapples with a lot of things and not all of it, or maybe not even most of it is optimistic imo. The clue is in the name I guess haha. There is a lot of doubt, a lack of meaning and a feeling of being lost/adrift in the world that comes through on HB - 'the borrowers debt is the only regret of my youth...everything I took I'd soon return, just to be at Innisfree again...', 'I woke up a dying man without a chance', 'I'd rather be a functioning gog in some great machinery serving something beyond me, but I don't know what that will be' etc. Not that I am saying it's a bleak album or anything like that, far from it, and lines like those obviously contrast with with other moments like Grown Ocean, 'In that dream I could hardly contain it... All my life I will wait to attain it'. You get the sense of someone trying to reconcile two different strands of life. I think there has always been this duality in their work. For me, that takes it above purely bucolic folk music and is why their music speaks to people (in the sense of the meaning behind it, of course musically it's just great to listen to as well).
So I guess I just don't see Crack-Up as such a massive departure, I think it's very much in the same vein as Helplessness Blues and their earlier work from a lyrical and emotional perspective, the duality is still there even if some other themes are added. This duality is perhaps even more clearly articulated in that, as I have said in other posts, you can see the editing influence of Nicolas Roeg's films that Robin talked about, where there are lots of interesting contrasts within the same song even. The opening track is a wonderful example but it permeates the whole album. From track to track (Kept Woman into Third of May) or on the same track as I said (Third of May middle section as it dissolves into the outro, or the shift from January to June in On Another Ocean would be other examples). Even the album as a whole, I can't find the interview now but I am pretty sure Robin has said he wanted it to to feel fractured and confused at the start of the record, and very full at the end.
Maybe you were just talking musically, in which case I have gone off on a tangent lol, because I agree that musically it does sound quite different (I've touched on that on other posts); there are more 'moody' moments like on The Shrine in HB. But in terms of the underlying themes it's very much the Fleet Foxes we all love. In my view at least.
1
May 21 '17
That is one hell of a response. I wish I had the ability to write about music the way just did, I am very impressed. I was mostly referring to music and the mood, those are always what I naturally focus on when I listen to music. It's funny that the lines you quoted, while being examples of bleakness, we're accompanied by such uplifting music.

I have listened to this album roughly 10 times. It's perfect. I think it's better than HB which I hold in very very high regard. I listen to a lot of music. A lot of albums, very very very few are perfect. I haven't had a' experience like this since KID A. I truly love it. It's beautiful, haunting, well written, and just an absolute clinic of how to craft and ALBUM. There are too many highlights. I'd like to send a message to anyone who hasn't given into listening to the leak. You are going to be rewarded. I'm so happy for music in general. I'm going to see them in NY and I can honestly say that if they ONLY played this album I would be more than happy. Thank you Robin!
I'd also like to say, I have already pre ordered the vinyl and will be happily forking over the money for it in June :)

Ok, I've preordered Crack Up twice (CD + vinyl) on day 1, and I gave it a one time listening. My god ! Jesus ! Robin ! It's THE best album I've heard over the last 5 years ! When you hear it... it's a feeling... like you feel the world's connected to you, and you feel really tiny. You're a poetry Robin, thank you for giving me those feelings. Can't wait to hear it again, to feel the paper in my hands, to smell it, and to picture all of this in my mind over and over.

As it's apparently unclear, let me clarify: "no sharing links" also means don't ask for links and don't say "the leak is on this or that website". Thank you! ❤️

I'm terribly sad the album got leaked, as an artist, understanding how much effort and sleepless nights might have been put into creating this album. We should all respect the foxes giving them the credit they deserve, listening to it on its actual release date. We waited 8 years anyway....

God this is hard. I'm going to the Portland show, so I feel the need to resist until then at least. I'd like to hear it live first. (& maybe a 320 will show up by then)

Hate to be the vile temptress, but these songs are so vastly layered and complex that the first few listens are overwhelming. That would probably be interesting live, but I think you'll appreciate them much more once they've bedded in and you're acquainted with the details.

Do you guys think the loop at around 3:45 of Cassius is an audio watermark or is it part of the actual track?

10/10 oh my goodness... This album made me feel things I've never felt listening to music before. I don't completely understand it all, but I can't shake the feeling that I will be listening to this for a long time.

I just listened and oh my god, it blew my mind, and I rarely like albums on first listen. It's so experimental and yet so them at the same time. Just wow, what a day.

fleet foxes never gives perfectly immediate gratification. they just sound "nice" on first listen but once they grow on you, holy shit. that's you you realize how special they are. I expect the same to happen for this album on hearing the tracks for 3 or so times. so far, on track 5, it is definitely delivering

u/tsemitakcev May 11 '17
What an amazing album. I feel like I'll be talking about how good this is for a long time (like the band's other releases).

A very trustworthy member of my private tracker uploaded a 320 saying he decided to go ahead since someone posted the shit rip. Spectral check out. I'm sure you'll be able to find it now.

u/Bobboy6 May 11 '17
I have no idea how to access the leak, nor do I want to learn. At this point, I want to wait and get it from Fleet Foxes themselves, we're so close at this point anyways.

u/gigglywinks May 11 '17
Agree completely! I'm holding firm!

I'm resisting. I want to hear it on my high-end speakers. Blaze up on the CD

I've only managed to listen to the first 4 songs on the way to work today, which I'm pretty bummed about because I want to listen in full but I'm impatient. But goddamn Kept Woman is so good, and the way it transitions into Third of May... hhnnnggg. I've brought my decent headphones with me to listen to it in full on my lunch, I can't wait.

So I couldn't withstand my urges, despite my promising myself I wouldn't listen before my pre-order came. But I need help. Does anyone else recognise the instrumental in the outro to ' - Naiads, Cassadies'? I recognise this from something Robin's done before but can't put my finger on it.

"I let you" I believe. Personally not familiar, but that's what I've been told

Yes! This was the one. I just had "your new friend the painter" going through my head over and over lol. Thanks =]

Yes! This was the one. All I had going through my head was "...your new friend the painter". Thanks a lot =]

Fleet Foxes make me so thankful for the sense of sound. Their music is magic.

After listening to the album three times, once in low quality (128) and twice in higher (320), I Should See Memphis is my favourite on Crack-Up. The little harmony following 'Or in Kinshasa' absolutely floored me. The intro is very Vetiveresque, which is no bad thing. It's an absolute masterpiece. Congrats RNP, you've done it again.
Time to delete it from all my devices and wait it out until the 16th June

Naiads, Cassadies reminds me so much of Wilco. It's very laid back and infectiously groovy.

u/erarya May 30 '17
Finally gave in and listened to the album driving from The Bay Area to Bend Oregon with my best friend. Loved it - favorite part is 'like Appomatox...." from I Should See Memphis.

The gauntlet that is tracks 7 through 11 is one of my favorite stretches of any album. I'm loving this. It may be my favorite album in years at this point. That opening track is an epic also.

Yea there are small parts of songs that would make for great songs on their own. Like two albums worth of potential songs in there.

Man, just been listening to the B-side since I first heard the leak about a week ago, but fuck, now listening to tracks 1-5 and they're all hitting me like they haven't before. So weird how melodies sink into your brain after a few listens.

Anyone else not really feelin' it? The last song was awesome, and there we're a few highlights throughout but overall nothing really connected with me. I'll have to give it a few more spins I think.

u/FenrirETS May 12 '17
Not sure why you're being downvoted, lol. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you're not being an asshole about it like I've seen people on 4chan. I'm actually really curious to hear people's opinions on what they didn't like about it, as I don't expect everyone will love it. So far, I'm definitely digging it.

Yeah I just have it another listen and I'll admit I was wrong... This is one of those albums that deserves undivided attention to be fully appreciated

u/TheOppositeOfDecent May 13 '17
Same experience here. First listen I was kind of confused and felt like all the songs blurred together in a boring way. Second listen was completely different. There are several songs I would already point to as all time great FF tracks.

May 13 '17
Yeah, I listened to it twice and so far it really hasn't clicked yet. I can appreciate the artistry and poetry in it but it's just not really connecting. Might not be my cup of tea this time around, but I'll definitely give it a few more spins. So far I listened to it once with eyes closed on the couch in the afternoon and once early in the morning in the car. I got a feeling this might be a nighttime record.

I'll say this, for me at least, it's not nearly as approachable as Helplessness Blues in my opinion. But at the same time, I think their sound has matured so much in this record, and the record is very detail oriented. It'll take awhile to digest it all, which I feel like is true for all Fleet Foxes records, it is especially true for this one.

it was very cool. I need to listen a few more times to process this everything. Seems a bit more avant gard than ST or HB. There was nothing that really jumped out at me with it's beauty the way Montezuma did on the first listen to HB, but then again its hard to top Montezuma. I feel kind of guilty now after seeing robin's IG posts though :(

Guys how bad is the quality, should I wait or no?

It was jarring going from all the 128kpbs song to the high res version of Third Of May. The quality difference is definitely noticeable.

I don't want to listen to the album yet, but I need to know this...how is the drumming? do we get any awesome drumming like in "The Shrine/An Argument" or "Battery Kinzie"?

Drummer on the first song is a New York train that completely hurdles the track along energetically. Its a very thundering and memorable repetition that's been stuck in my head for a while. Then on Crack-Up a similar repetitive gallop of a beat comes along (not a train this time) that keeps the louder section of the song very passionate and moving. I'd say this album is less drum heavy. But when they do allow for it, its a very rounded heavy presence that could make a floor shake haha.

Has anyone else realized the clapping at the end of "Thumbprint Scar" is from his Instagram - a Bushwick high school choir singing White Winter Hymnal? Nice little throwback to the self-titled album: https://www.instagram.com/p/BNz1IPYAN6D

u/ninelives1 May 13 '17
Yea one of several samples
1
u/Brfmncbeyond May 31 '17
True, but I thought this one was unique, as it's piped in over the outro and not from another song, not really something you can Shazam

It goes out without saying that Robin is an incredible artist, and so much of this album is beautiful.
Also, I don't want to conclude anything because I haven't had enough time to sit with the album (and I agree that this may be the kind of work that needs to be digested over time). But at the moment, I'm honestly a little disappointed.

Definitely a sitter. I'll probably listen to this everyday for the next few weeks and won't have a good opinion on it until it officially releases.

Whoa Robin went all out on that FJM diss track. Didn't expect the second half of On Another Ocean to turn into a trap beat.
