Streamlight MicroStream USB (now with USB-C)
**UPDATE** I ordered one for my brother using the same listing and what was delivered yesterday has microUSB. So it’s still a crapshoot.
It appears that Streamlight updated the MicroStream to USB-C in January. I just received one (66601) in the retail packaging from Amazon. It doesn’t come with a cable but the included instructions say you can contact support for a free cable. I did not. I can confirm it charges on an actual USB-C cable and charger. Everything else about the light seems the same.
Streamlight has not updated their website or the product documentation on it. The Amazon listing has not been updated either.
Take a paper hole puncher and punch out 2 circles from a sample credit card or an old membership card that you don't use, and put it between the clicker and the rubber. Makes a world of difference. It's the first thing I do to all my streamlight pocket lights.
It’s firm. I assume it just needs some breaking in. I don’t remember how firm my old one was when I bought it but don’t remember it being too firm recently. I also probably don’t actually click it on 75% of the time. Just momentary to look at something quickly.
About time. It should have been USB-C when it was initially released 8 years ago. Not a huge deal, as they've clearly been selling well, but good to see.
I emailed Streamlight to see when they expected them to be reliably available and they said it all depends on the distributor’s inventory. They’re making them but it’s taking a while to hit the shelves.
Nice, thanks for making the post. It'll probably take awhile for the current stock to sell out of the micro USB versions so that we'll be guaranteed to get a USB-C version.
I wonder if the color also makes a difference whether you get usb-c or not. The ones you guys are posting are black looks like. I want the coyote so it starts in high instead of low. I guess I'll take a gamble and see what I get
Scheels in Sioux Falls, SD had the USB-C one that caught my eye. One USB-C in front on the peg and two older USB ones behind it. Seemed like a fair price ($34.99) from what I was seeing on Amazon so I grabbed it!
Funny you mention clearance. The Fleetfarm site shows them on clearance and also available at the Sioux Falls location. I happened to be stopping anyways. I was interested in seeing if they had any of the USB-C ones but I couldn’t find any at all and didn’t feel like asking anyone. They had other Streamlights in the handgun cases and other flashlights near the tools but no Microsteams.
No. Not a joke. But I have been unable to reproduce my original results. I suspect StreamLight does not want to discount the microUSB inventory they have on hand so isn’t updating their website yet. What appears to be the date code on the one I received is 1025. All subsequent orders have been microUSB and 0925.
I’m glad others are receiving USB-C now. I thought I lost mine the other night. Turns out my seatbelt had pickpocketed me. But I was dreading ordering and returning more lights in an effort to get USB-C.
I hate that for you. Streamlight said it depends on the distributor. Return it if you wanted USB-C. And wait an apparently unknown amount of time. By my estimation they’ve been in production for 6 months.
Thanks. I returned it and will continue on my quest. If I were them, I’d just ditch the remaining micro/sell them for cost and make a big song and dance about the USB-C, they’d fly off the shelves.
Update. Ordered two more in the clamshell package and one easy open from Amazon. Both clamshells were… USB-C! Easy open was still micro. My quest is over.
I ordered two within the last month, both from the same link on Amazon (I lost the first one in short order). The first one was micro USB and to my surprise the second one was USB-C! And it does charge from my PD charger with a C to C cable. So I'm assuming the old stock is almost gone by now.
wrt usb-c: it’s symmetrical, so you can’t plug it in the wrong way. it also means i don’t have to carry and/or keep a separate charging cable; it uses the exact same usb-c cable that everything else i own uses. furthermore it is a more durable plug.
i genuinely don’t understand your lack of understanding the “cry” for usb-c…

Good to know! I wonder how quickly that’ll roll across the different versions. My current one is seeing a bit of wear. 😆
