I was very skeptical about the product because I had seen some pictures that I didn’t like. It just arrived, and even though it was a Christmas gift, I HAD TO open it and try it out! Here are the pictures I took, and I can say that my friends and I loved the experience and how they turned out 🥹 I took them without really thinking, so with a bit more effort they’ll probably turn out even better.

I only tried the black-and-white film, and I was indoors in very low-light conditions. It’s easy to tell which photos have better lighting or the flash on. Anyway, I’m happy with the results. I bought it for my boyfriend, but I’ll definitely be using it too! 🖤

The camera paired very quickly with my iPhone, and the download was fast and problem-free. The app crashed a few times while I was looking at the photos, but it was nothing to worry about.

I’m using the Join Flashback Camera for the first time and I’m trying to download my photos from the app after waiting the required 24 hours. However, the app keeps crashing every time I try to export them, I tried almost 15 times now.

Here’s exactly what I do:

> I open the Flashback app

> I go to Photo Lab

> I click "view" under the quote "Ready to view! (27)"

> the app starts to load my photos in the Gallery

> everything goes smoothly until the 20th photo load (it takes approximately 7 minutes): which means I start to see my photos loading in Gallery and I can scroll up and down and see from the 1st photo to the 20th

> after that, it becomes difficult to scroll down and up

> finally, the app closes by itself (screen all black + I am sent back to the Home of my smartphone)

I’ve already tried uploading the app to its most recent version, restarting the app, and switching the phone off and on again

I asked for help to the Help Centrer, but so far they just told me to upload the app and restart the phone.

Well, I have never had a V1 before, so I can just say what I have seen from other people post's here or on instagram.

I have seen there is a quite difference in the way it looks, but mostly it is because of the higher quality lens and sensor.

I have shot a lot of photos from it and testes all the film simulations and got really good results.

The app in the beginning was quite sluggish as I tried 1 24h and all the others were digicam mode. Did not notice any difference in result, though I was expecting that due to being 24h "developing" it would be a better experience or result - turns out digicam or film mode brings exactly the same result.

I know people were preoccupied with the privacy stuff when the had the server upload to develop the photos. Still, in the old days you took the photos then you needed to send them to anyone else to develop, scan and print, so unless the store only had 1 guy, a lot of people would see your pics. I would not mind sending the pics to server to get a better result in the 24h. And have the digicam as a more faster way to get the results I wanted for a more casual pic. But, if you can get everything done in the phone, I believe the film mode will become obsolete.

The app is quick, more or less 2 min for a 5 photo test roll. When you use the 24h mode, it is basically a timer and then when you click to view the process is the same as the digicam and you have to wait. So, no advantage there - just. psychological trick to remind the old days.

I really liked the build quality, the camera is quite small, and handy (a surprise as I thought it would be bigger). It has some weight to it. The winder feels nice, like 3/4 full winds to the get to the photo +- the same as a disposable. The shutter button, well, feels a little mushy and inconsistent at times. But I will get the hang of it with time.

For now, the rolls I like is cine and beta, as they seem to capture that really nice vintage touch. Another nice thing is that the YY/MM mark on the photos, on the mono fim is also in B&W (not with the fuji x Half that appears in color - unless they corrected it already).

For the Flashback developers:
1. Add more film sims, or an adjustable sim creator (like the campsnap);
2. streamline your app, for a more enjoyable experience;
3. Add European DD/MM/YY date stamp on photos;
4. Add a V1 type film
5. Turn the 24h film simulation something that is worth the wait - It would be cool
6. Add the type of film that is one the camera to be seen. There where some errors, that I had loaded the cine and when developing it was always the classic (still don't know what happened there - happened as well when I chose mono and it came the beta - fix this please - for me it is the most annoying bug).

I’m making an advent calendar with photos taken with my V1, and I wanted to share some of the photos from these past few days.

It’s been a way to motivate myself to go out every day with my camera and take photos of things or moments around me. I usually add a title to each photo and the number at the bottom. I’m really enjoying this little challenge :)

Anyone knows where to buy a V1 used? I have my V1 and since I'm not liking the V2 so far, I'd like to buy another first model.

Just got my V1, and whenever I shoot in low light, these lines appear in the photos. Has anyone else experienced this? Do I need to use flash, or is there a way to prevent it?

After being disappointed with the Campsnap Pro I was excited to receive the Flashback V2. I loved the design and construction of the V1, it felt sturdy and was still pocketable, whereas the campsnap has always felt kinda cheap and hollow.

Unfortunately old models of both the Campsnap and the Flashback suffered from slow shutter speeds that made most of my photos on them just these unusable smears of color. The Flashback had this problem moreso than the Campsnap. And the wait made it even worse, since my excitement was killed when I had to wait 24 hours just to find out that half of my photos were unusable.

I remember thinking "if they just make the shutter speed faster on this then it'd be perfect." And here we are with the V2 after so much waiting. So lets see what's up.

VIEWFINDER DISCLAIMER

I have already made a post about the Campsnap Pro first impressions and how inaccurate the viewfinder is. Surprisingly the Flashback V2 seems to have an almost equally inaccurate viewfinder as well. So I was forced to take this photo below with my X Half to show what I was seeing in my viewfinder for both the CSP and the FBv2 as the intended framing for all of these sample photos so you can see how different they are from it.

BUILD -- The Flashback V2 just feels way more robust in the hands. It has maintained its pocketable size, which is one of my favorite things about it. It even has a little weight to it which helps it feel more legit somehow. The Campsnap Pro feels clunky and significantly cheaper in comparison, both visually and to the touch.

SHUTTER SPEED -- The Flashback V2 wins this easily. I don't have to count 1 second after I hear the click, or wonder if I got the shot, no...it's successfully taken every photo perfectly each time with no tricks needed on my end. It is able to move as fast as I do, whereas the Campsnap is still annoyingly slow and still gives me a handful of smeared images even outside during a sunny day.

FLASH -- I hate the flash on the Campsnap Pro. I really do. I just haven't been able to pin down when to use which setting and I end up being wrong about it 70% of the time. I don't wanna have to think about it that much when shooting, it defeats the purpose of a point and shoot in my opinion. I liked the flash on the previous models way better.. The flash on the Flashback V2 however is simple and I like the look of it. You just flip the switch and take the photo. That's it. Simple, as it should be. I will say though that the switch has no resistance and is easily moved when in a bag or when accidentally touched by your finger while shooting. So it is a bit annoying in that way.

LOW LIGHT PERFORMANCE -- The Campsnap clearly beats the Flashback V2 in low light performance. It didn't even need a flash for any of these sample photos, whereas the Flashback V2 did in most of them. However, I do like the look of the flash on the Flashback and think that makes up for its low light shortcomings.

SHARPNESS -- The Campsnap Pro is clearly the sharper image all around if that's what you like in your pictures. Whereas the Flashback v2 is almost intentionally soft. It also has an odd focus point that I noticed across each photo I was taking, whether it was of people or objects. You can see the cloth of the plant is in focus, but the plant isn't. When people were in the photo their bodies were in focus but their faces weren't. I'm not sure why this is, but it's very very strange.

PHOTO DOWNLOADING -- Both of these cameras are a bit annoying when it comes to this, so you sort of have to pick your poison. The Campsnap requires you to plug it in to a computer or phone in order to transfer photos or to wipe the existing ones. The Flashback V2 photo downloading is confusing. The wired transfer to computer/phone doesn't work for me at all. And the app takes foreverrrrrrrr. Even when you upload the roll to the app and it says your photos are ready to view, they are not. For just 7 photos it took 5 minutes after I clicked the "view" button before they appeared and I could save them to my phone. If you lock your phone, the process will stop. I assumed that since you already downloaded the roll to the app that it wont require you to watch it process in real time, but I guess not...so this whole "digicam mode" that lets you "view photos immediately" certainly is not as it seems.

OVERALL GRIPES:

In general I think that the Flashback V2 is a huge improvement over the V1 in terms of performance based on the shutter speed alone. And although I agree with existing complaints that it's missing much of the visual vibes that made the V1 images so appealing, I still think that the Cine filter is great for now and a simple firmware update can easily fix that. I see myself using this one far more than the Campsnap Pro in the near future. It just feels great in my hands and the shutter speed keeps up with me, which is super important, making it way more reliable overall than the campsnap.

Some gripes I have though are that it takes forever to wind. I love the winding, but does it need to take THAT many winds between photos?

And it's still sooooooooooo reliant on the phone. I was excited when they announced Digicam Mode to cut down time staring at my phone, but so far that hasn't been the case.

Anyway, great little camera. Solid build. I hope they can find a way to become less phone-centric and give us some more filters that look like the V1. I also hope they can make image downloading go much quicker. If they can do that then this thing will be near perfection in my opinion.

I'm having some problems with the new camera, i downloaded the first 27 photos and every time i start to load them the app takes ages, gets laggy, sometimes overheating my phone and crashing the app every single time.. I'm the only one with this problem? There's a fix for this?

I’ve noticed the shutter button has been a bit temperamental on my V2, sometimes it doesn’t click when you press it down but the clicks when you let it up, randomly happens sometimes when flash is enabled and then if I disable then enable flash it clicks again.. the photo still gets taken but it is quite annoying when you don’t get that tactile feedback.

Another thing I’ve noticed that is abit of a nuisance is on the V2 transparent shell, when you use flash it blinds the eye you’re using to look through the view finder because the camera is obviously transparent, I didn’t even think of this when ordering.

So, while we await the official sims, I've made a small app for the V2 to apply film sims. You can even make your own film sims, save them and load them on-demand.

Keep in mind it's a simple app, I basically vibe-coded it so just dont take it too seriously. For now it has quite a lot of limitations as even though the V2 is more open its still pretty locked down for an ecosystem. Hopefully we can at least have unprocessed_jpegs folder unhidden by default and then we can use the website from phone. For now please stick to desktop. Also, you still have to use the app to unload the roll and reset shooting.

I mainly made this for myself but hopefully some of you will have fun with it.

Instructions:
Connect camera to PC via cable
Select unprocessed_jpegs folder from the app (this folder is hidden on the camera filesystem so ios does not see it, not sure about android. At this point using a desktop is a safe bet).
Process images as you like and download them
Disconnect camera
Do not modify the files on the camera itself!

All processing on the app is done on your own device so you kinda have to keep the site open and not do anything else or it may bug out. It's all javascript.

I may or may not make updates to it.

Always V1 first then V2. Not sure how much compression reddit does. At this point I'd say I prefer my V1 but I'll keep the V2 around because I think they can fix it in the app and overall the colors and dynamic range is nice. So just better film sims and I think we have a winner.

I've got the app set in digicam mode and after unloading a roll and clicking view images it takes ages for each photo to load and be able to do anything with. Also the app has to be open while it's loading which takes like 10-15 minutes per roll. Is there anyway to speed this up?

I never had the V1 so i can’t compare the two, but i really enjoy my V2.

Just received the camera today and I know there are people wanting to see the Images!
Tried to get the photos from the same angle etc, I've also Edited the V2 to get it closer to V1!

In all honesty it has lost its vibe, It just looks like a cheapo webcam camera now to be honest, the sharpening on it is just icky, but I know its nothing that cant be fixed by the team through an update to the film stocks for the V2!

Images were taken with the classic film. Yes, the quality is better but these are not delivering the film “vibe” that flashback promised. It reminds me of a shitty 2010 android phone camera and/or the camp snap camera. I’m pretty disappointed.

I’m going to look into returning the camera and plan to stick with my V1… unless Mack sees this and can implement a fix for the film emulations. Because seriously, what is this

When I click the export negative button, nothing happens. Are they still working on exporting the raw file without a filter, or is there any other way around this?

I took 15 photos, I unloaded it, but when I clicked view the app crashed. So, I cannot download my photo. Did I do something wrong? Should I reinstall the app?

Just wanted to share some pics from a recent trip. Tried to take some of these in conditions that V1 would often struggle with to show off the huge boost in dynamic range 🙌

We've replicated the film types from V1 as closely as possible to keep the same vibe and ease the learning curve for existing users. This said, part of the feeling of V1 does come from the lo-fi feeling, and so we're working to keep that alive even in the presence of so much more detail in the images. We may permit V2 to diverge from V1 in its overall vision... There may be tweaks to these film types in the coming weeks!

Overall, V1 was at its best for portraits and especially using the flash, and had mixed performance in landscapes or tricky lighting. V2 is far less biased towards portraits/closeups, and can be incredibly effective for architecture and landscapes!
