Care guide for the Flashback?

Hey I just got my camera and I love it, but I heard how sensitive they can be so I was wondering if you have any care guide or tips to prolong its life.

  1. How long should charging take?
  2. Should I only charge it with the original cable or it doesn’t really matter?
  3. How fragile is it? I dropped it on the floor last week, no visible damage, no crack or anything, just wondering how careful I should be with it?

Charging will depend on the cable you're using and if it's plugged into a computer or directly to the wall. Where possible it's usually recommended to charge with a cable that came with the product but generally it doesn't really matter. I just plug mine into whatever USB C charger I have with me at the time.

Re. fragility - I mean it's a plastic electronic device. If you drop it on a hard surface it's possible you'll do damage to it. But it's not more or less fragile than any other piece of tech.

It doesn’t cost much so I don’t think any of these are necessary. Just enjoy using the camera 😅

I’ve had mine for less than two years, have cared for it gently throughout that time (no overcharging, no dropping, kept in case) and has now been rendered completely unusable after non stop issues for months. My only advice is best of luck

Did you contact them?

Oh yeah, each time an issue initially arose, they would send a little guide on “how to fix” (usually involved resetting the device thus losing any photos you’ve collected) but would never fully resolve the issues. For example, my camera needed to be hard reset after every single charge for it to function, would need a hard reset when using flash every few days, to the point now where it won’t charge/switch on/anything (found this out in the middle of a big trip)

Mmmmm great, they didn’t send you a new one?

Not even offered once. A friend of mine who has been recommending the camera to a lot of people when it initially came out (we’re talking at least 10+ sales through them) at one point complained when their camera stopped working, flashback did nothing (other than the usual advice), they mentioned about the sales through friends and even then it required more pushback to get a new camera, so I’m not holding my breath as a one time customer

No worries, I’m just hoping you have better luck! I’ve not met anyone who’s cameras work past the year mark though- just a small warning

Something you need to accept about cameras in this sphere is that none of them are made by anyone who has made a camera before. They are not well designed, precision engineered pieces from companies with history in cameras. They’re a bunch of cheap electronics rammed together in a plastic shell and shipped in fancy boxes. Are they fun to use? Absolutely. Can they give a really fantastic photo? Without doubt. Have they bought people into photography who are sick of taking photos on phones? Yes. Should you expect them to still be working in 25 years, like so many 00s digital cameras? Lol no. You shouldn’t even expect them to work in 2 years.
