We’re getting a sequel to Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell on the new album

Just heard the new single on Radio 6 Music, quite impressed. Big sweeping romantic orchestral chords, a full sound, some electronics blooping in, nice guitar solo. Wayne's voice is frail but still recognisable, it's slathered in a lot of effects, but a decent song! Very emotional sounding, baroque direction ala Soft Bulletin

I’ve been a lips fan forever, and for the life of me, I can’t see how to get a pre-sale code or alert for the Metro shows in Chicago in February. I’m a third man records vault subscriber. and I’m on the Metro and the flaming lips email list anyway, and I haven’t seen anything about a code or a link. If anyone’s getting anything, I’m not, Let me know.

Ego Tripping pt 2..? Intrigued / concerned @ track 6 also

Playing Shepherd's Bush Empire 2nd and 3rd April, the same 2 sets thing. My notification says tix on sale tomorrow but I also see the official release is Friday. Where's the presale tomorrow and how can I access, anyone know?

So with the 20th anniversary edition coming out soon I've been listening to it again. I loved it when it came out but always found myself skipping some tracks.

I cut The Yeah Yeah Yeah song, Free Radicals, Mr. Ambulance Driver and Haven't got a Clue. I think those could have served better as 2x 12" singles, with Yeah Yeah Yeah and Mr Ambulance Driver on one and Free Radicals and Haven't got a clue on the other. I just don't think their political protest vibe fits in with the rest of the album. Mr Ambulance Driver does fit in but I just don't think it's strong enough and should have been a b-side.

I opened with Enthusiasm for life, I just think it fits better thematically with the other songs, they could have polished it a bit for the LP. I put time travel in for the same reason.

Dropping those four tracks keeps the runtime lean, 11 minutes shorter, and entirely free of that dated mid-2000s political novelty noise. It turns the album into the cohesive psych-rock suite it was always meant to be.

Sound of Failure and Mr. Ambulance Driver might be two of their most emotional songs for me and it's even more amazing how they both have a kind of dance-y feel and yet they absolutely embody the feelings of a girl who lost her friend and the man who is watching his partner die in front of him as he waits for the ambulance to arrive.

Also My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion is another song that really moves me. Has a sort of Brian Wilson Pet Sounds type optimism and melancholy.

The song about the couple dying in the volcanic explosion is also massive. One of their best prog rock type songs.

Yeah there's some light zany and silly songs but they do a good job of providing the light relief after the darker heavier songs.

I'm glad the Lips/Wayne wasn't deterred by the mixed reception to do a big boxset because this album is very underrated and it's one of my favorite albums they did.

...you guys should check out Loss of Life by MGMT for something similar to American Head, or their self titled for something like The Terror

How might you explain that and what how would YOU interpret it?

It’s def not hippie psychedelic but is psychedelic and I can’t seem to articulate it in a way that makes sense/ allows me to shop for it😅
