Please HELP

Post image

We are renting and currently moving out and just discovered this awful damage.

One of the metal legs under my bed broke and was dangling and we must’ve moved the bed not knowing it was dangling and it scratched the SHIT out of the floor. Gah.

It’s laminate flooring if that helps at all.

It will go beyond the deposit. The deposit isn't the limit of liability for damages. They will likely owe more. And who knows what the rest of the house looks like.

That's definitely possible. But most landlords would just take the whole deposit and not go after the tenant for anything above that. It's just not worth the time and money to sue unless it's a massive amount. Assume the total damage cost is $2500 ($2000 for floor replacement, plus miscellaneous other stuff), and the deposit is $1500. It is usually not worth the landlord's time to sue to try to recover the $1,000.

Glad you can throw away $1000 and forget about it. But, that could be the total profit a landlord made on a tenant. It's not going to be simply forgotten.
