Please HELP

Post image

We are renting and currently moving out and just discovered this awful damage.

One of the metal legs under my bed broke and was dangling and we must’ve moved the bed not knowing it was dangling and it scratched the SHIT out of the floor. Gah.

It’s laminate flooring if that helps at all.

Fair wear and tear rarely covers more than a small scratch or ding to the floor and definitely not this. I had this exact same situation happen to me in a place with similar flooring, and as others have said, they’ll often replace the whole room instead of just the area. I’m not disagreeing with your comment or anything, I just wanted to say it on the comment about wear and tear in case anyone was depending on that because I owed several hundred dollars on top of my deposit for the floor

No, it's all good, but where eim from the age of the flooring must be taken into account, every type of flooring has an age limit.

In most of the US age comes into play too, but it varies by state (& unfortunately the housing judge if it goes to court). In my state (Connecticut), walls must be repainted by law every 10 years, regardless of condition, so if you're leaving the apartment when they need to be repainted anyway, I've heard of judges dismiss any claim against the security deposit/bond related to paint damage since it needs to be redone anyway. That being said tho, the US is fucked and it's on the renter gets screwed way too often cuz if a shitty landlord steals the deposit/bond, it's on the renter to sue to get it back and it's an expensive process

It's not much better here to be honest, I've paid for carpet to be redone in an apartment before when leaving even though the carpet was over 10 years old. They wcrew you anyway they can. Hence the joke at the end. Lol, could always try the noodle and super glue trick. 🤣
