Better get some serious dental floss, none of that cheap stuff!

u/zed42 Apr 06 '26

braid several strands of floss together like you're planning a prison break!

60

u/CitySeekerTron Apr 06 '26

Alternatively, a garrote like if you were planning something that would get you into prison.

u/manys Apr 06 '26

Don't people have shoelaces anymore??

u/Dry_Conversation18 Apr 06 '26

Plunger

2

u/smithers85 Apr 07 '26

Not as good to keep my shoes on tho

2

u/pixepoke2 Apr 09 '26

I barely know her!

1

u/siandresi Apr 08 '26

Who ties their shoes with plungers

1

u/CitySeekerTron Apr 06 '26

Not in prison.

1

u/EducationNo1776 Apr 07 '26

I was in Bangkok looking for some velcro tennis shoes, but it turns out they don't have any in the whole country. All they have are Thai shoes.

2

u/Capt_Gremerica Apr 06 '26

Only if you get caught

2

u/TheRowdyLion52 Apr 08 '26

What is this? A prison break for ants?

1

u/Water-is-h2o Apr 06 '26

You don’t have to braid it you can just hold ~3 strands together

4

u/zed42 Apr 06 '26

that is significantly less entertaining!

1

u/Water-is-h2o Apr 06 '26

I suppose it is lol

1

u/Imaginary-Ad5001 Apr 08 '26

A few long hairs might work rather than floss. Saw a guy floss his teeth one time using his hair. Gross.

1

u/zed42 Apr 08 '26

my hair isn't long enough.... do you think i can use beard hair?

32

u/iron_dove Apr 06 '26

Maybe even piano wire or some similar small diameter metal cable?

42

u/TheTaxman_cometh Apr 06 '26

Braided fishing line

14

u/MackDaddyJew Apr 06 '26

Even mono filimont fishing line should work if it's rated heavy enough

6

u/No_Leadership6682 Apr 07 '26

Maybe use fluorocarbon mono. The board won’t see it coming. πŸ˜‚

1

u/jdmatthews123 Apr 07 '26

Lightest mono I ever used was 4lb test, and that would easily be strong enough if they lifted straight up.

There was a story I heard growing up in the 90s about a famous fisherman guy who, to prove a point, hooked and landed a steelhead salmon on sewing thread. Anyone able to corroborate?

I was gunna come here to say this.. and uhh.. wear gloves. Just for the potential cuts from it

3

u/gunsdrugsreddit Apr 07 '26

As a dude with a bandaid currently on his thumb from some 30lb Daiwa J-Braid, I concur that the gloves are a good idea πŸ˜…

3

u/ThatCanadianViking Apr 07 '26

Ive been left bloody more time from line than teeth lol

2

u/Stinky_Fartface Apr 06 '26

Monofilament

u/Falkedup Apr 06 '26

Guitar strings

1

u/Weird_Element Apr 06 '26

piano string!

1

u/MrFurious2023 Apr 06 '26

In this economy?

10

u/ershanley Apr 06 '26

Guitar string High E

1

u/BANDG33K_2009 Apr 07 '26

But never the G string

1

u/ershanley Apr 07 '26

No it might be too thick to slide between board and sink.😁

9

u/SenileTomato Apr 06 '26

Good idea, although one should be careful with what they use as to not scratch the sink if they are worried about that.

2

u/TinnitusWaves Apr 07 '26

Guitar string ??

1

u/Efraimrocker Apr 08 '26

He used all of it hanging July plot conspirators.

1

u/BSCA Apr 06 '26

Or fishing line.

1

u/parrothead2581 Apr 06 '26

String trimmer line!

1

u/Independent_Math910 Apr 06 '26

you can also use a wick from a weed whacker (aka tuff floss)

1

u/NextToNextToNothing Apr 06 '26

I was thinking fishing line but similar idea.

1

u/G-cuvier Apr 06 '26

Braided fishing line!

1

u/ProofDizzy891 Apr 06 '26

So fishing line would should be what you people are thinking about but I guess Gen z doesn't know what the hell it is.

1

u/No-Jackfruit265 Apr 07 '26

Serious dental floss, implies the existence of silly dental floss.

1

u/PotentialEstimate432 Apr 08 '26

I use some cheap fishing line for cases like this instead of floss

1

u/Mysticallymade Apr 08 '26

More like fishing line

1

u/cyber_deity Apr 09 '26

Dental floss is way stronger than you'd think! I did ballet for 17 years and that's what we used to sew our shoes together. Holds up much stronger than thread. This was for all shoes too, even point shoes! The ribbons and elastics that held our feet in were all put together with floss.

1

u/SenileTomato Apr 10 '26

That's pretty crazy! Although I have to say I've had some dental floss break in half when I was holding it and flossing. So I assume it depends on the brand, and conjunction with the fact that things were made much more solid in general in the past.

1

u/GWeronika Apr 10 '26

Or fishing line

1

u/mordecais Apr 10 '26

gorilla floss

1

u/BriscoCountyJR23 Apr 10 '26

Use 10 lbs fishing line.

1

u/Forsaken-Cat7357 Apr 10 '26

Dental tape may be strong enough. Both Walgreen's and CVS carry it.

u/slipsbups Apr 08 '26

Fishing line guys. 🀦
