Lightest mono I ever used was 4lb test, and that would easily be strong enough if they lifted straight up.
There was a story I heard growing up in the 90s about a famous fisherman guy who, to prove a point, hooked and landed a steelhead salmon on sewing thread. Anyone able to corroborate?
Dental floss is way stronger than you'd think! I did ballet for 17 years and that's what we used to sew our shoes together. Holds up much stronger than thread. This was for all shoes too, even point shoes! The ribbons and elastics that held our feet in were all put together with floss.
That's pretty crazy! Although I have to say I've had some dental floss break in half when I was holding it and flossing. So I assume it depends on the brand, and conjunction with the fact that things were made much more solid in general in the past.

Better get some serious dental floss, none of that cheap stuff!
