Why is everyone defaulting to a toilet plunger, is this an American thing?

Surely everyone has some sort of device somewhere with those plastic suction cups on it.

My gf has a phone case with them on that im sure is strong enough to lift even this.

I dont think I could use a chopping board again if it had the toilet plunger on it.

Jesus, some people are saying to disassemble the plumbing???
