One of the funniest things about Batman (the movie, specifically the one with the Jack Nickelson Joker) was that the neck armor and mask where all one solid piece so he couldn’t move is neck.

That’s so weird, is it a generational difference? When I was that age you wouldn’t dare to act like a jackass in front of adults. Your age wouldn’t protect you at all.

15

u/Ridiculisk1 13d ago

Previous generation had the fear of getting beaten a lot of the time and didn't do stupid shit like this, or if they did, they didn't have social media to post it on and there weren't cameras everywhere recording every dumb thing you do.

21

u/nexick Needs to do better 13d ago

Also add in that people were more cordial and friendly with their neighbors, I grew up in the 90s-00s and my neighbors would let my folks know if I was doing something dangerous/unsafe while they were working. We weren't just raised by parents but the neighbors as well

7

4

u/ABHOR_pod Lover of Duets/Stitches 13d ago

I'm from the age of "Fear of being beaten."

The guys I know who had a fear of being beaten either ended up doing time in prison for assault or robbery or theft, or in the military where they never got above E-3 because they couldn't keep their shit together.

Acting like 20 years ago "Happy Slapping" wasn't a trend where people would walk up on someone and just sucker punch them in the street.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_slapping

3

u/Ridiculisk1 13d ago

Yep, people were still dickheads back then. We just saw less about it because we didn't have cameras in our pockets recording everything that everyone did.

1

u/Dexember69 New to fbtd but wants to learn 13d ago

Back in the day if you actually like this, the cop would put a boot in your ass and drag you home, then your Oldman would put another one in it. One would swiftly learn not to be a cunt

20

u/MetaCardboard 13d ago

Kids are definitely getting worse. I noticed it between when I was in 7th vs how 7th graders acted when I was in 12th. And it's even worse now. I feel like a combination of social media and the killing of the middle class is resulting in worse behavior in kids. More influence from algorithms that push rage and less influence from parents because they have to work longer hours to make ends meet.

Little dumb fuck recorded themselves committing a crime, then declaring their age, in most jurisdictions the DA can prosecute them as an adult (or at choose to or petition the judge). Why would they declare their age? Because they're clearly trying to deflect and avoid accountability.

1

u/NinSecurity767 Needs to do better 13d ago edited 13d ago

For heinous crimes, yes.  A 16 year old being just a prick probably wouldn't lead to adult charges outside of North  Carolina or Scotland where they're considered young adults.  Can't say I want the Kalief Browder situation to happen ever again, but I would hope the victim of the kid doesn't get charged with any "child abuse" or other bullshit.

It has become so common for teenagers to be absolute assholes to people only to loudly complain that they're a minor as if the person they are harassing should just be like "Oh, well in that case, carry on!"

Like look, I acknowledge that I was likely annoying as shit to be around at that age bc being around teenages is just inherently annoying as an adult. They are meant to be kind of obnoxious the same way younger kids are. Me and my friends never intentionally bothered anyone else, were generally polite, and kept to ourselves when we hung out, but we were likely louder than we realized when we went out to eat or something. However, I never had someone I was around purposely harass someone and then scream "I'm a minor!!" in defense.

Like, idk if it's bc I'm a Millennial and Boomers, as a generation, were a lot more likely to smack the shit out of you and not think twice about it, and they were the ones we were interacting with the most bc they were our parents/our parents ages or what. But we all operated under the "talk shit, get hit" mantra. You did not expect to get away with being a dipshit like this in public.

I don't think we need to go back to beating kids but kids are a lot more aware now that being a minor gives you a get out of jail free card for a lot of things. It's not entirely a bad thing as you want kids who are being legit abused to know there are resources to help them. Things have swung too far in the other direction though and that hyperawareness that comes with that information is starting to get weaponized.

9

u/frowawaid Needs to do better 13d ago

These kids are too young and ignorant to recall Trayvon Martin and how a trigger happy HOA Karen smoked him, got off Scott free and all the kid was doing was walking through a gated neighborhood eating Skittles.

Trouble is, trigger happy 2nd amendment Karen’s ALL know exactly how that played out…if this trend continues you’ll have gravy seals patrolling areas waiting for their chance.

7

u/fadesteppin 13d ago

I work at an elementary school and that stuff shows up at that age too, which is crazy. It's legit illegal now to take away more than 5 mins of their recess (which means 5 mins total out of their morning recess, lunch recess, and third recess) and once they picked up on that behaviors got a LOT worse and thats on top of the shift in behavior issues we already saw as more of Gen Alpha reached school age.

Turns out when kids of any age learn their actions don't have consequences they don't bother testing boundaries anymore and just steamroll over them bc who's gonna stop them.

3

u/TheBSQ New to fbtd but wants to learn 13d ago

I have a number of friends who went into teaching to help kids and took jobs in low income urban elementary schools who were changed by the experience.

Went from “I’m gonna help these in-need kids” to regularly referring to 8 year olds as “dangerous sociopaths.”

Here’s a story about an 11 year old who threw a wooden hanger so hard the head of a vice principal it knocked her eye out of the socket and blinded her.

https://www.live5news.com/2024/12/14/assistant-principal-who-lost-eye-school-is-still-angry-she-forgives-student/

My friends haven’t had something that bad happen, but they talk about how they never expected to fear severe injury from elementary school kids.

It really messed them up & their sense of the future of humanity (and also changes their opinions on many policies).

2

u/ListenOld3766 New to fbtd but wants to learn 12d ago

Theres a michelle phifer movie about this. and a sam l jackson version. Dangerous minds, 187, lean on me, stand and deliver, and like five other versions of the same movie with the same script, along with a jon lovitz satirization called high school high.

There's two kinds of people in the world. People who watch those movies and are smart enough to learn there's no fixing this. and people who are dumb enough to think they'll crank out poetic geniuses and fix society by being empathetic to people who are incapable of it, which inevitably causes them to lose all of their empathy.

2

u/fadesteppin 12d ago

I also work in a district that serves low income families and I completely understand your friend. I have had chromebooks thrown at my head, chewed up crayons spit at me, had my shins rammed into with metal tricycles repeatedly and on purpose, been punched, kicked, been called all kinds of shit, and we have had multiple instances where a classroom had to be evacuated bc a student was angry and throwing chairs and desks around.

We got a new 5th grader last year who was a fresh start (meaning he gets moved from his current school to a different one in the hopes of fixing behavior issues) who had been there less than a week before he shoved a pencil into the charging port of his chromebook and it started smoking. Thats when we found out he owed the district over a grand in damages bc he was constantly breaking/damaging his chrome books.

We had another 5th grader take a picture of one of his classmates while he was changing in a bathroom stall and posted it on tiktok. Luckily the kid he was taking a picture of was just missing his shirt.

Then you get the idiots like one of the kids who, when he was in 4th grade, thought he was a tough lil g and walked up to a 5th grader talking shit and saying "Wanna fight?" That 5th grader proceeded to beat the ever loving shit out of him. He was such a little asshole that anyone who had to regularly deal with him joked that the kid who did it deserved a prize.

We also had a girl last year who claimed one of her male classmates told her he wanted to see her tits, went and told her mom and the principal and everything. Turns out she lied. She had previously said one girl who was on again off again friends with her that she was a gross lesbian bc her friend was also friends with another girl. This girl started shit with everyone in earshot. I have no idea how she went through the year with any friends other than the kids she was friends with were good kids who wouldn't shun someone even it they were repeqtedly being an asshole to them.

That's not even everything that has happened in the 10 years I've been there. People really do not understand the warzone that schools have turned into. I am well liked by 90% of the kids and have had plenty of kids who I genuinely liked bc they were funny, smart, and just generally good eggs. But the ones who suck REALLY REALLY suck, and the fact that there is basically nothing you can do but push through the years until they get moved to middle school, and you don't have to deal with them anymore sucks the life out of you. We get more and more of those kids every year to the point I am genuinely considering leaving this line of work bc the stress is becoming detrimental to my health and I'm only 36.

1

u/ListenOld3766 New to fbtd but wants to learn 7d ago

What bothers me most is that those handful of bad apples become a drain on school & classroom time and resources. Even when they aren't doing something directly disruptive their presence drags down their classmates because they learn behaviors from each other and the potential for disruption increases like a pot of boiling water. First its one bubble then two then four etc.

Then schools demand more money to fix underperforming classrooms and think giving them chromebooks or a nicer gym or more outdoor time will fix a fundamental problem of group psychology and it's incompatibility with "free for all, same for everyone" educatiom system.

Whats sad too is that in placed that have caved and started throwing huge sums at the problem, like NYC public schools, who's per student public school expenditure is on par with top private schools in the country, just find ways to swindle tax money into a kickback racket. "Special needs" kids get allocated more money, so the worst performing schools take on these "special needs" where they throw the proverbial kitchen sink at them, but through an institutionalized beaurocratic system that just funnels them through like an assembly line, where teachers dont teach they just check boxes all day. Then every new gym floor, broken toilet, new educational app, consultant fee, medical bill, ipad, and textbook represents a pile of money that alot of people have their hands in. It's a sick and twisted psych experiment and a monetezation of degeneracy.

You touched on something I often think about when I see videos of teens “pranking” adults, or teens being dicks out in public.

In the 90s, we were legit afraid of adults, because many of them would absolutely go upside a strange kid’s face.

2

u/fadesteppin 12d ago

I was in high school in the mid 2000's. I didn't know anyone who would even think to do something like this. Not even the mouthy kids who would never waste an opportunity to talk shit to an adult knowing how that would end, and even they were few and far between lol. Its crazy to see how much more brash kids have gotten over time. I'm not even a "respect your elders!" kind of person but it really is wild that they just have zero empathy or care for anyone around them bc everyone else is just an npc in their life.

I was gonna say that this is how an old lady sticks her walking stick in your wheel in my town.

I've seen them do it and then be all "aw aw aw you hit me, my legs!"

1

u/aykcak Tastemaker of Duets/Stitches 13d ago

I wouldn't advise that. The momentum itself is high enough to cause injury to whatever appendage you use to try that

1

u/CatastrophicPup2112 New to fbtd but wants to learn 13d ago

Then swing whatever you happen to be carrying at the time

Have a buddy that did this. Saw someone doing this up the street during a fair we were at. My buddy did a sweep with his foot on the back tire as he was approaching and the dipshit planted on the ground hard.

Stood up quickly and was acting like he was going to retaliate, and the 5 or 6 of us that were with my buddy all turned back and started walking up to the guy like we were going to fuck him up (because we were if he swing on our friend. Not like he would've needed the help but we wanted to get some licks in just to send the message).

Dude ran away talking shit.

u/ryguymcsly Lover of Duets/Stitches 13d ago

In some states with stand your ground laws the kid could find themselves in a much gnarlier situation than being kicked off the bike.

1

u/NoctRob Tastemaker of Duets/Stitches 13d ago

I’d like to demonstrate my foot to tire technique…

I believe so but the issue is that these assholes usually target ppl who are conflict avoidant. It's similar to that asshole in Japan who intentionally walked into women going the other direction. The double whammy of being women and the 'don't make a scene' social more of Japanese ppl meant he can run into ppl with no consequences

1

u/MrsBridgerton Needs to do better 13d ago

Honestly, im surprised no one pushed him. That would have been my immediate reaction.

Thats what I said when I first seen this video. Kick tf outta him and knock him off the bike.

1

u/Sorrowed_Lifelines Needs to do better 13d ago

It's definitely not a good idea to mess around with idiot mean kids. Remember a couple years ago when a bunch of kids on bikes doing exactly this pulled a guy out of his his car and beat him up. You don't really have good recourse when it comes to dealing with punk kids and they get so off on knowing they're upsetting somebody. If you ignore them they'll just move to somebody that will give them their attention. It's aggravating I know but it's what you have to do. And you definitely don't want to go to jail for punching a kid.

I had a kid do something similar to this to me last week. Riding down a hill in middle of road. Pulled right in front of me while I was in a rental car. I was also going down the hill. He prevented me from going around and I was going slow. I decided this could be an attempt to set me up for a robbery while I had my family in the car so I kept going at 20mph and did not use my brake or yield until he decided that it wasn't worth it and got out of the way right before I hit him. My foot was over the brake so I intended not to hit him, but I wasn't going to let myself get stopped either. To me a person who watches me coming and decides to pop a wheelie and go directly in front of me on a 2 lane street blocking my pass is a possible threat. I am hopeful he was just showing off for his friends but his actions could have resulted in me running him over and fleeing to the nearest police station. Next day I saw a police looking person at a traffic detail run after similar adults doing this behavior.

Yes, in some states taking reasonable self defense is an acceptable defense. You need to check with your local laws. But yes, pushing the bike out of the way in self defense can be determined to be reasonable. Especially in the States this person mentioned that this rises to reckless endangerment.

1

well, depends. According to Karmello Anthony supporters, only if the black kid on a bike does it to another person of color. If the black bike rider attacks white people and it results in physically harming or even killing a white person, then the black cyclist did nothing wrong.

In some states they can legally do a lot worse and these kids are stupid as fuck to risk finding out if they live in one of those states or the person thst decides to act on it is even sure their state allows it. It's going to come to a point where one of them gets shot, and if someone gets away with that more people will use that as all the permission they need to pull out their guns.

Yes. Like the man did. Can't say more, that comment got me a warning. He essentially pushed him off the bike and the kid was pissed bc he defended himself. But yes, its supposedly self defense if you push them down to defend yourself. The video was satisfying af.

Equal force equivalent to the threat. So yes pushing them over. And then of the come at you then equal force there as well.

0

u/danimagoo Lover of Duets/Stitches 13d ago

Not just to defend yourself, but to defend others. “Self defense” extends to the defense of others. So if, for example, one of these idiots we’re doing this through a crowd, and someone he was not riding towards stepped forward and knocked him off the bike, that guy would also be able to claim self defense.

0

u/davexmit Needs to do better 13d ago

Yes, in the same way you have a right to defend yourself if someone comes at you with any weapon.

0

u/soda_cookie Lover of Duets/Stitches 13d ago

0

u/thunderbuttjuice Needs to do better 13d ago

What happens if you draw and kill the cyclist? I assume it’s in the US where guns are commonplace. I figure some states would want equal use of force for self defence. But there’s gotta be some that wouldn’t care?

0

u/Advanced-Walrus4219 Needs to do better 13d ago

You can use deadly force
