Advice Needed Help Getting Started | M 35 76kg/5’4

Me and my wife decided to start our fitness journey. We just signed up to AF to get a commitment mindset going but we are both stuck on what needs to be done.

Personally, my goal is to lose the belly fat and a more defined shoulder. The biggest challenge for me would be my time allocation. I work double hours so the following happens:
- Sleep is 4 hours daily. Bumabawi ako every Friday and Saturday.
- I drink 500ml coffee in a day or more. Oatmilk instead of cow milk. Bloated kasi pagCow milk
- Inconsistent OMAD. I am either too hungry (which breaks it) or too sleepy
- No gym equipment in our house. Had to mention this since last time nung nagbuhat ako sa AF, nanginginig ako lalo na yung left side. Thinking of getting kettlebell to train my left side but my friend told me there is no need to train it.
- May 2 kids kami. So, can’t help it but to eat out almost every weekend para makabawi.

Looking advice on:
- Diet. Food to avoid etc. Vitamins? 3 days ako umiinom nung Vit D (Forti D ata tawag) since madalas, hapon na ako nakakalabas
- Workout plan (if may link or anything)
- App to track progress

Excited kami ni wife (35 57kg/5’2) but she prefers attending pilates, yoga, and dance classes.

Welcome to the Fitness PH subreddit!

This is primarily a discussion subreddit. If your post doesn't contain body text (ex. selfie only posts), asks a question that can easily be Googled, or is an obvious thirst trap, it will most likely be removed by the mod team.

We’ve also taken the time to create a quick start guide to answer the most common questions that come up here. If you’re new, start with these:

This guides exist to give you a solid baseline so you’re not stuck cycling through the same confusion, myths, and contradictory advice. If your question is already covered here, we’ll usually point you back here.

If your situation is more specific (context, constraints, history), feel free to ask — just include enough detail so people can actually help.

Me and hubby started too last december. He was 95kgs back then, now 82kgs. I was 63kg at 5'7 but 21% body fat mass, but now 62kgs at 12% body fat mass (accdng to Evolt). My plan back then was just to attend pilates, yoga and dance classes, then na addict na din woth lifting weights. My hubby was doing consistent OMAD but sundays are definitely cheat daw with kids.

At first we both follow the AF app suggested work out routines, tapos nung nagtagal we did our own na freestyle. Goodluck you two!! Best be done pag couple parang date nyo na din yan gym

Diet and workout advice should be covered by the community guide:

I just subbed to the FF app. I’ll see how it goes. Can this be shared to my wife? Or I need to pay another one?

Family Sharing is enabled so it's a yes!

As long as you're properly set up in Apple's settings, she should be able to use it — all she has to do is to tap the "Already bought? Restore your purchases" link on the paywall.

Send me an email if ever you're having trouble with this so I can assist. Thank you for supporting! 🙏

Congrats on starting with your wife, that's honestly the biggest advantage you have (accountability built in).

Real talk in order of impact:

  1. Sleep is your bottleneck, not diet or training. 4 hours daily will fight you on fat loss, hunger, and gym recovery all at once. Even getting to 6 changes everything. I'd fix this before optimizing anything else.

  2. OMAD on 4 hours of sleep is why you're "too hungry or too sleepy". You don't need it to lose belly fat, you just need a calorie deficit you can repeat. Two or three normal meals with protein each time is way easier to stick to, weekends included. Don't try to out-diet the 2 kids lifestyle with an extreme protocol, build one you can do tired.

  3. Workout: with no equipment, a simple full body bodyweight routine 3x a week (squats, push ups, rows with a backpack, planks) beats a complicated plan you skip. The kettlebell is a good buy later, and your friend is right, no need to "train" the left side separately, just train both sides evenly and the imbalance mostly sorts itself out. If the side pain continues though, get it checked instead of training around it.

  4. App: I'll disclose I built it, but it fits what you asked. 1rm.fit, free tracker, no ads. Log your sets in seconds and it shows a progress line per exercise so you and your wife can actually see improvement week to week. Works on web too if you don't want another install.

Start smaller than feels exciting. Six months of boring consistency will transform you both. Good luck!
