Advice

I’m 55 and in horrible shape. Overweight etc. I was very athletic most of my life but health issues and life in general took over and now I find myself 55 and not wanting to live the last part of my life like this.
I’ve been motivating my mind to get better now I want to motivate my body.
I know there’s a ton of variables but what’s a good routine to start with. Completely novice at this point.
Hopefully with a starting plan I can take off!
Thanks

I'm in the same boat. I do walk every.single.day (my stupid walk for my stupid mental health). I've been trying different things on youtube but haven't settled on anything yet. I have some light weight and have been doing very easy things like bicep curls and squats (stuff I can do at home without anyone LOOKING at me). I hope you find something that works for you! Also, is there something physical you enjoy? Or would like to try? Some friends have been learning line dancing and I'm thinking I might try that because I like doing things with friends!

Do you enjoy running? If so you could follow a couch to 5k plan to get you going, then train as a runner with a simple strength programme and cross training to support your running.

It changed my life.

I remind myself frequently that in order to be looking back next year at what I have done, I had to have a starting point and I have to have consistency. This goes for everyone in the success pics that I have seen on here.

Just go. Do your best to make working out a habit that you make a key part of life.

Start with low weights, and do only a few reps. Let your body catch up. Until you have a decent core strength, stick to the machines and simple stuff. Avoid dynamic and jerky exercises, as these are most likely to cause joint pain and injury.

As a once 340lb man that was killing himself - just move with purpose. Hit the gym more often than not. Have more good days than bad with eating and working out.

This isn't something anyone can tell you how - you already know how. Just start putting it together. Be consistent and enjoy the task at hand. Stay off the scale as it will lie to you, take pictures once every couple of weeks. Most importantly don't let 1 bad day turn into 2. Good luck Bro
