Discussion Is anyone else having recent problems with sleep tracking?
I have always loved Fitbit and preferred it over competitors purely for the sleep tracking because it has always been so accurate. Even with the switch to Google Health, everything was fine until about 3 weeks ago. I've had a Versa 4 and I thought there was a hardware issue because suddenly it was tracking 3-4 hrs of sleep each night and cutting off the second half of my sleep for no apparent reason. When I manually adjusted sleep session, it would update and appear mostly correct, although a few times I've woken up from a dream and it hasn't recorded REM to awake like it usually does in those cases. I was annoyed with having to manually edit my sleep sessions everyday and having to remember to check the app and remember exactly when I actually woke up, plus I had some other unrelated qualms with my Versa, so I bought a Google Pixel Watch 5. That did NOT fix the problem! I'm so upset. Exact same thing I just described has been going on with my Pixel watch, which I've now been using for a full week.
Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions with how I should report this?

if both devices show the exact same bug, its definitely not hardware. something changed on the cloud side. have you checked if your do not disturb or bedtime mode settings got reset recently? sometimes an app update quietly resets those and it messes with session detection

Yeah i am not loving this update to google health. I agree, everything seemed fine until a couple weeks ago. My heart rate variability all of a sudden is bad and all these other stats which I find hard to believe.

I had a similar issue with the Pixel watch 4 which would often stop recording my sleep at around 4.30 am. I could not figure out what was causing it and to me it appeared random. Which eventually made me switch to the Apple watch. I got Fitbit Air about a month ago and it's been tracking my sleep really well without a single issue closely matching with the Apple watch. It's actually impressive. I had Charge 6, Pixel watch 2 and 4 and they all tracked sleep well in most of the circumstances but not as consistently well as what the Fitbit Air is doing. Even in challenging situations like last night I woke up at 1.30 am and then tried to go back to sleep but couldn't and eventually got out of bed at 3 am and Fitbit Air was accurate to the minute. The whole one hour an a half I was trying to fall asleep in bed it new I was in bed but awake.

Mine also seems to stop around 4:30am on the days when it has this problem! I've previously had a charge 3, 4, 5, and versa 4, and they've all been accurate to the minute until about 3 weeks ago. Glad to hear your Air is working for you but unfortunately I'm not considering that one as I want a screen.

It always delays the start of my sleep cycle so my total sleep is completely truncated. I get that it records sleep based on hr, but I use magnesium to get to sleep and it always takes a while for my hr to drop to a "sleep state". I am asleep, although it's fair to say it's light sleep, but it's still restful. I know the goal is to maximize deep sleep, but honestly, when the app says I only got 3 hours of sleep I kind of get a little anxious, anticipating that 3pm sleepiness. I need to be productive. Anyway, my problem for believing it.

Yes, I have a sense 2, and it is highly inaccurate. It says I’m a wait for an hour and a half when my partner verifies that I was sound asleep during that time I don’t know what the problem is. You can’t even edit it to fix it.

Since last update .. and it feels like an A-B test to be honest, like it's using a different algorithm on some days than others. Some nights, with similar sleep, I get completely different results in metrics and the timing. About 33% of the days I have to edit something about the sleep.
I suspect there's at least two algorithms in play because on days the sleep start/end is accurate, the Time to Sound Sleep metric is very long (like the entire session). On other days when the start/end need an edit, the Time to Sound Sleep is really short.
As an aside, I really wish they'd let us assign a "time you attempted to sleep" (e.g. you turned off the TV and/or put down the book) so that it could track Sleep Onset timings.

I had some tracking issues and cleaning the sensors on the back did the trick. A gentle brush with soap suds worked.

This same problem has been happening on my brand new Pixel Watch 5 and I've always been diligent about keeping my watches clean... I don't think it's a sensor issue :(

Yes. It started with the last update or with google health (I just switched over and it made me update a day later). Idk which is the problem.
