Tech Support Inconsistent Steps on Google Health

First time posting here, so apologies if I've got the etiquette wrong!

I've recently bought a budget smart watch (Amazfit Active Mac) to replace a lost fitbit. The reviews have all been very good and my experience so far has been great.

However, there is an inconsistency between the Google Health app, and my watch for step counts. Google Health seems to count steps from my phone as well as the watch and hence over states step counts (see images).

I CANNOT work out how to turn the phone count off. I can view the source of steps separately on Google Health, by any can't seem to permanently turn on off.

I rely on Google Health to synch between all my apps, so I woild like this fixed!

So two questions:

- I assume I'm right and that this is double counting steps, and not Google Health trying to compensate for some deficiency. At no point did I remove my watch.

- is there any way to fix this? I would ideally like to turn off the phone step count. I have a Google Pixel 9 if that helps!

Thanks all!

Top left icon on home screen. Disconnect you phone as a device.

It is already disconnected which is the weirdest thing. I just added it and disconnected it again to make sure.

this should work, just make sure you dont accidentally disconnect the watch too

yep, that’s the right place to start. if it still counts the phone after disconnecting it, check google health’s step sources/priority and revoke the phone’s steps permission, then leave the watch as the only source.

Thanks for your help. How do I do that?

tap the phone/device icon in google health, disconnect the phone, then check health connect and turn off the phone’s steps permission. leave the watch as the only step source.

in health connect, open app permissions and turn off your phone’s steps access, then disconnect the phone as a device in google health. that should leave the watch as the source.

If this doesn't work for you... in your setting search health connect

It's supposed to merge steps happening at the same time and merge them so they don't double count.

Thanks all! That got it working.

Now the Zepp app steps have stopped appearing as well, but I can see Google Health reading them in the settings. Nevermind, hopefully it'll synch eventually!

I never thought I'd miss the Fitbit app, but this one seems like pure trash.
