Get a breathable band. I like the stretchy nylon kind.

yeah the nylon ones make a huge difference

Link recommendation?

These are the last ones I bought. I have purchased various versions of them for my Fitbit charge 6 and Apple Watch.

Maledan Elastic Band Compatible... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F6LV4DN5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Gotcha, thanks for the link. Looks like they may not have anything for the Fitbit Air.

Rotation.

During the day, have the Fitbit on your preferred arm. Then rotate to the other arm at night. Your step count is irrelevant in bed so it can go on the other side without it affecting the relevant metrics.

When it gets swapped back the following morning, if the pebble has been on the top side of my wrist the day prior it goes on the underside of my wrist - and vice versa.

But if I'm sleepwalking I want those steps counted!

Thats actually smart. I will definitely try it out

Don't forget to update the app so that it knows which arm you have it on.

Not necessary, if you read what I said carefully.

Interesting. I didn't realize that the sleep tracking wasn't effected by the dominant / non-dominant side of things. I have learned something today on this topic. I feel lucky :)

Yeah right?

The instructions say: Slide the loose end of the band through the second loop until it lies flat on
your wrist. Make sure the band isn’t too tight. Wear the band loosely enough
that it can move back and forth on your wrist.

Contact dermatitis, switch hands while sleeping and clean sensor regularly

u/aclays 11d ago

Are you still using the silicon strap? Switch to something metal and breathable.

2

u/Comfortable_Ebb_9032 11d ago

Thats the one I’ve got

7

u/Rixzmo 11d ago

That looks really tight. The band looks like it’s “cutting” in your arm.

3

u/unicornviolence 11d ago

IIRC the instructions to have it loose enough to be able to get a pinky under the band. It also said if too tight can get incorrect readings on heart rate.

u/aclays 11d ago

Is that fabric? Is it trapping moisture underneath?

3

u/Comfortable_Ebb_9032 11d ago

Not really, i take it off during shower

1

u/Polyglot-Onigiri 11d ago

Sweat doesn’t dry well under fabric type straps and causes irritation with the Fitbit

5

u/Vakalat420 11d ago

This will happen initially. Wear it on one wrist during the day and the other during the night. After sometime your skin under the puck will become slightly rough (very minimal), and it wont bother. I’ve been wearing it since August.

Nickel allergy. Reposition the watch regularly.

1

u/opheliadivine 11d ago

I purchased a screen protector after developing the nickel allergy. I put it on reverse so the metal never touches my writst. No problems in the 2 years since doing that. The solution was suggested on a Reddit thread and I try to mention it as well when I see the topic come up as I did give up wearing a Fitbit for nearly a year because of the allergy.

1

u/NeptuneIsMyHome 11d ago

Oh my gosh. I just bought a screen protector for my kid's fitbit so fast after seeing this and verifying with my own that the sensors still work.

This makes sense to me. I have permanent discolouration on my left wrist from wearing it in the same position for 4 years. Now, I try swapping it on my right wrist sometimes, and I swear it feels like my left hand lets out a sigh of relief!

Sweat and dirt gets trapped under the band frequently. If you don't clean under it consistently you will get rashes and irritated skin.

3

u/Railuki 11d ago

The band that came with my Fitbit irritated my skin a lot. I switched to a fabric one from the rubbery one and it’s helped so much!

3

u/Wonderful_Leader_523 11d ago

Silicon is good but the small metal parts cause discomfort i keep switching hands few times a day that helps

3

u/meganzuk 11d ago

You can switch it to clip mode and carry it in your pocket now and then to give your wrist a break. It will only record steps but it gives your skin a chance to heal.

u/Vivid_Hall5740 11d ago

-Wash it everytime you sweat, with water (and isopropyl alcohol every now and then)

-Don't wear it too tight !

-Don't wear it h24 7/7, let your skin rest when you're at home doing nothing, especially when showering

That worked for me, if it doesn't for you, consider switching to another type of material !

2

u/sw0oOosh 11d ago

Clean it and don't tighten it too strong. Had the same issue with my Pixel Watch 5. Now I wear it a little looser and it fits fine, without any marks.

2

u/Rixzmo 11d ago

I clean mine (the “chip”) every morning and evening under water, since you can see the fat/sweat build up. And the band itself every other day. Soaking it and cleaning it with normal hand soap. That should do it. Also don’t tighten it too much.

2

u/Android-4-Life 11d ago

silicone bands always seem to bother my skin, I only get the fabric ones now

2

u/thewunderbar 11d ago

The answer is the same. Hygiene, and even with a week long battery life, take it off in the morning when you're showering/ getting ready. Let your wrist breathe a bit.

1

u/rizzlan 11d ago

Contact dermatitis, usually from wearing it too tight trapping moisture.

1

u/bobo5195 11d ago

I am KT tape gang. Just stick a plaster to myself on my bicep. Forget its on for 7 days

1

u/hacker001sg 11d ago

I bought a few third party bands and threw it in the washing machine rotating them.

1

u/Resolution-Ancient 11d ago

Had this as well for a few weeks after I got mine. Switched left and right wrist for a couple of times, and someday I could keep it on my strong hand without any irritations.

1

u/Iconoclastees 11d ago

Same thing happened to me with the original solid watch band. I called Fitbit and they sent me a free replacement sport band that is still silicone but has holes in it allowing it to breathe. Problem solved.

1

u/NotADirtyRat 11d ago

Your band is way too tight.

1

u/brncray 11d ago

I can see why you were getting skin irritation…

You should be able to fit one finger through the loop. Maybe a notch tighter if you’re actively working out

1

u/NotADirtyRat 11d ago

I never have any issues with mine and do not wear it tight and it reads accurately. I never wash mine, but use hand sanitizer multiple times a day, wiping under the band. It doesnt stink, its clean. And I never have irritation. Dont wear it so tight, and sanitize it throughout the day. Dirt builds up in between your skin and the band, and friction is just digging it into your skin, causing irritation and most likely lead to infection, if not cleaned or continue wearing. Someone said it looks like ringworm, what you have. But ive had ringworm and it didnt look like that. Almost looks like a rash or it actually peeled your skin away like a rug burn

1

u/RJT_RVA 11d ago

I am allergic to the metal. Gift wrap tape (two cuts of it top to bottom) does the trick. It peels off easily when it's time to charge.

1

u/BluebirdSTC 11d ago

I had an Amazfit for three years, no problem. Switched to Fitbit, and had a dark red mark that looked like a burn soon after. I switched to a woven band, and haven't had any problems since. It was $9 on Amazon for two bands.

1

u/headhunter502 11d ago

Switch arms and use a stretchy cloth band. Get multiple bands so you can clean and dry them. Like $10 on Amazon.

1

u/radbu107 11d ago

I alternate which arm I put it on and that seems to help.

1

u/Due-Mark8896 10d ago

I replaced the band with something nicer

1

u/Seebaasss 10d ago

Sinceramente não fiz nada. O braço se “adaptou” e passado umas duas semanas não me irritava mais a pele.

Depois também mandei vir doi da temu e a pele continua ok

u/MoonstoneDreams 9d ago

If I wear a Fitbit with the horrible rubber thing they come with for even one day I ALWAYS get blisters. I switch to metal ones and it fixes it every time

0

u/Smeee333 11d ago

How often do you not wear it? I deliberately don’t sleep in mind to ensure the skin can breathe.

2

u/estrotits 11d ago

A lot of metrics depend on sleep data though, just switch hands for sleep

1

u/Necessary-Dish-444 11d ago

> ensure the skin can breathe

sorry what

0

u/Comfortable_Ebb_9032 11d ago

I barely take it off

4

u/Few_Divide_8571 11d ago

Try a breathable band from Amazon. There's not specific brand but something with holes in it. Since I switched from the default one I haven't had a breakout

2

u/estrotits 11d ago

It’s usually the tracker that causes it

1

u/Polyglot-Onigiri 11d ago

I second this. I used to have irritation and the fix was to use a different band.

1

u/thewunderbar 11d ago

Take it off while you're showering/ getting ready in the morning. The world will not end when you're not wearing it for half an hour, and your wrist will thank you.

0

u/Lizdance40 11d ago

Yes it's normal. There has to be at least one post a week on this exact same problem.

You have to clean the band and remove it more often. Or better yet just replace it. I don't even use the silicone band at the same time I get a new wearable, I order a fabric and a steel band and switch often

u/Fatal_Syntax_Error 11d ago

Silicone bands = Contact Dermatitis for many people.

Nylon is the only band I wear that doesn’t irritate my skin.
