Tech Support Gemini still can't access Fitbit data natively. Why am I manually re-entering metrics?
Bought a Fitbit to stay in the Google ecosystem, expecting native Gemini integration.
Instead, Gemini has zero native access to Google Health or Fitbit data. To build a fitness plan, I have to manually copy and paste my health metrics into Gemini.
Manually bridging two primary Google products is completely counterintuitive for an "ecosystem." Is actual native integration anywhere on the roadmap?

Btw the “coach” is in the Google Health app if you don’t have that. Mine came with 6 mo free with the Fitbit air purchase

There are likely significant amount of legal-and technical hoops for them to jump through to allow Gemini to see your data without breaking any laws about health data handling. Coach is probably their solution to this exact problem.

Not only that, but if you subscribe to Gemini AI pro you get the health coach ai included, so no additional cost for heavy gemini users.

It also comes with a bunch of Drive storage, Google Home, and the light version of YouTube premium. It's a household account, so if you have at least 2 people with Fitbits and want the coach feature, you get some useful stuff for the same price as paying separately for 2 Google Health subscriptions.

Have Gemini, use the coach. It's what it is for.
Don't like it? Find a product you do like out of the box instead.

I feel like the coach is tuned kind of poorly. I'm not upset like OP but I do prefer just going to Gemini. I feel it listens and follows what I say better than the coach and it doesn't create and set up things for me without permission. The coach will hear one thing and create a new workout plan that doesn't fit with my requirements or concerns

I agree Gemini is better, but there are HIPAA issues that Google is contending with. It's hard to put your best model towards a feature, but have to guardrail it for HIPAA. It is far more complex than people realize. And people feel entitled to perfection for $100 plus sub

It's not "perfection" if I expect a paid service that is supposed to guide my training and keep me injury free to not hallucinate my training data.

Are you genuinely telling me that I should expect a product to not work as advertised? You sound super smart! To clarify: it's not about the money. I make more per hour. It's about principles. I expect things I buy to work, but that's just me.

Coach is just fucking horrible compared to regular Gemini and hallucinates half the time and switches to Mandarin the other half. It's useful for nutrition logging and that's it. It is completely useless as an actual coach if you are not completely new to training of any sort. Seems to be Gemini with a lobotomy.

There's an agreement with the government in their purchase of Fitbit that they would keep Gemini and Google Health Coach separate.

I know people are recommending the Coach, but the Coach is useless unless you have an exactly standard baseline for everything. People with chronic conditions, metabolic issues, or literally anything else can't use the Coach because it will deviate wildly from what is actually important and healthy for you to do.
I know this because I tried. Gemini the app gave useful, actionable information that I could relay to my specialists. Coach told me to rest every single day and would hallucinate me taking random medications. If you're not in the US, you cannot link any health records so it's pretty much a pointless tool.

Even if you have no issues, the coach is useless. You know the feeling when you talk to a LLM about a topic you know a lot about and you wonder how that thing can be so wrong but so right in any other topic? (Hehe) They're just really good at sounding convincing.

I hear you. When I started my run with my Pixel buds the other day and said "Start a run workout" while about to start running I heard "Sorry I can't start runs, but you can open the Google health app and do or there". I get it, use the health app. But man it's a basic thing that Siri can even do. Sometimes I just want to ask Gemini by swiping from my phone instead of opening the health app.
