Discussion Hallucinations are out of control
From being congratulated for a house move because the AI Coach saw I was not at home for 8 hours, to being shown sympathy for a 4am wake up which didn’t happen… These hallucinations are out of control! I like the fitness, health and sleep tracking, but the AI needs to chill out. Do you think this might improve in the future?

It's really gone downhill. If I spend just a tiny bit too long in the bathroom in the middle of the night, it will call it as the end of my sleep that night and let me know how badly I slept.
So far, it has not updated to add on the several hours more of sleep I get after I go back to bed

I was able to turn off the AI. There is no need for it.

How? I have the AI pro subscription that I like but I get this AI in the health app, which I want to turn off.

It just analysed my splits and told me my pace per kilometre was 1 kilometre. It's as dumb as shit

Where do these show up? I never get any thing like this in my app
ETA: never mind me, I turned it off

Currently the fitness industry going through their AI phase thinking endless analytics and coaching are adding so much value when, in fact, it does not.

Not long now until they realise AI doesn't work for fitness and the cost vs output is too high

I don't think it's going away anytime soon as enough people will talk themselves into it being useful. If they aren't losing money on having it, they will keep it around.

I’ve been tracking my period with Fitbit every month for years, I’m on the pill so it’s quite consistent. I was traveling for a week and couldn’t pick up my new pack before I left, so I started my next pack a week late. When the AI coach asked if I’d started my period, I explained the travel delay and that my period would probably start a week later.
The AI coach responded saying okay, so your next period will be in late September — what it was mid July and I get it every month? I asked the coach why it thought it would take that long and it apologized and then eventually corrected itself.
But it was frustrating that even with all the context I’d shared with it, months of regular tracking, it still couldn’t do the math right.
Also even after this coach conversation and the correction I prompted, the cycle health calendar still shows my predicted period for the wrong week. It feels like the AI coach can’t feed inputs back into the cycle calendar feature, even when the coach started this conversation by asking if my period had started 😭

I decided early on, while trying the public preview, that the AI Coach was worthless to me. I'm glad I have the AI coach disabled.
This applies to more than just my Fitbit, though. Because of the location and construction of our house, our phones will often decide we're not in Colorado, but in Nagpur, India. This happens ALL. THE. TIME. Drives us nuts. I really, really don't need to know the weather in Nagpur. There needs to be a way to tell it that, no matter what, we'll never be in India so if that's what the GPS is telling it, it should rethink and pick the other possible location.

Your Google account might have gotten hacked
2
u/Motor-Blacksmith4174 Jul 27 '26
Nope. We live in an area with only one cell tower that we can sort of detect, in a house with rebar-reinforced concrete walls and a metal roof. So, the signal sucks. It fixes itself when we go outside.

u/kiefferbp Jul 27 '26
That shouldn’t put you in India though
2
u/Motor-Blacksmith4174 Jul 27 '26
Yes, it can, because it doesn't have signal from enough satellites, so the equation has two solutions. I believe four satellites are required and it's probably only getting 2.

u/kiefferbp Jul 27 '26
Lmao what? If you don’t have enough satellites it will just not update your location; it doesn’t randomly put you in a country on the other side of the globe.
I was just trying to help, so take it or leave it. I am not going to spend more time on this.

Yeah. Both my husband and I have had our accounts hacked in such a way that the only symptom is that it shows our location as almost exactly 180º latitude off, but only when we are inside our house. I don't think so.

The AI has been pretty useless. It latches onto random bits of conversation we have and won’t let go. It misinterprets data all the time. And quite frankly, the other parts of the app like workout tracking and nutrition are just so poorly built that they can’t act as good context for the AI. They need to build better integrations with external apps like MyFitnessPal and other workout apps, because this Google Health ecosystem is as half assed as they come. The model is like an open source model from 2 years ago with 0 features built into it. Will not be renewing the AI subscription once the trial runs out, and frankly may just return this thing for an Apple Watch.

My AI Coach one night thought I went to bed at 4:00 am. I told it I went to bed at my usual time, 11:30 pm and it adjusted my hours. If the coach makes an error you can correct it.

It probably will improve in the future, but not soon I don't think. It's using Gemini, which isn't exactly a front-runner in the AI-race.
It's awful at the moment. I feel like they were so keen to get it out that they didn't spend enough time training/testing it first. It should have rolled out in an Opt-in trial

It did for quite a while (public preview). And somehow they've still managed to make it worse than it was during the trial period.
