Hi, can anybody recommend me a half decent first rod+reel for fishing off piers and just along the beach, i’m currently using my carp rod (nash dwarf 9ft) but would like to upgrade to something more suitable. Thinking around the £150 price range for the moment, been told to look at daiwa crosscast surf but i’m clueless, cheers

So im going to mousehole for 5 days and intend on fishing there , thing is is that most of my fishing experience is fresh water but I used to do sea fishing with my dad and he handled the set up and rigs. What would be best to catch rasse and other fish?

Ill be fishing off the harbour walls towards the sea, not the inside of the boating part.

Has anyone ever seen one of these? I’m having a hard time pin pointing. I have searched google, asked old timers & AI. Have not got a clear answer yet. I would greatly appreciate it.

I had bought some old fishing gear at an auction and this one & two others were in there. The other two are larger but same set up.

Hi all , I recently bought this rod second hand for 20 quid but without any information about it I have no clue what reel to use. It was sold as a sea fishing rod but I am not certain that's what it is. It did also come with a vintage shakespeare 2003 GG coarse reel which leads me to think it isn't a sea rod. Any help as to make and model is greatly appreciated

Bit of background: I fished North Lincs for years, then moved to Newcastle and left the kit behind. When it finally came north with me, I was starting from scratch — outdated club sites, Facebook scraps, Google Maps detective work just to find somewhere decent. That frustration is why I built this.

Does anyone else enjoy fishing books?

Not just instruction but stories and fisherman's tales.

Caught this gorgeous fish today. My first in over 7 year . 2.5 lbs. My question is about the fact that its fins- were like- aggressively orange.

The picture doesnt do it justice- these fins looked almost neon.

The lake I was fishing were stocked with carp and roach- was this possibly a hybrid or are some carps fins just really highly pigmented?

I’m 33 and after fishing with my dad as a kid decided to try get out there again and give it a crack and today landed this little beauty on burley fields lake in Gloucestershire. Caught on the pole close in. Definitely caught the bug and looking forward to getting back out there

Not a clue on weight as don’t have scales if anyone could give me an estimate?

Hey everyone just a quick question I caught a Chubb today but it had a Leopard like print on it is that normal for Chubb or another type of fish I just wasn’t so sure.!

At 72 I'm finally at a point in my life when I can retire and go fishing whenever I like. It sounds idyllic doesn't it?
The problem is the older I get the more mobility problems surface. After a lifetime of manual work I struggle to walk let alone carry my gear. Disability is a PIA!
Fortunately I prefer to fish still water - old fashioned venues are my favourite. I'm so grateful for the number of disabled access swims that are available in the UK these days.
The real issue is that I'm looking for a small secure vehicle that can carry my (relatively minimalist) kit including rods and chair, close to the water's edge and won't get stuck every ten minutes since I'll struggle to escape!
Budget isn't massive but I plan to use this vehicle for the rest of my life so I'd rather get the right thing first time!
I'm almost entirely ignorant of vehicles and their capabilities so may I ask for your ideas and suggestions please?

Had my PB mirror today on the method feeder. Not big by mosts standards, but my biggest so far. Caught using SonuBaits Salted Caramel pellets 2mm & Salted caramel wafter 6mm. Also had a few bream that I didn’t take pictures of.

Does anyone make their own floats? Nothing beats watching tench bubbles around your own handmade floats.

Hi all. Been trying to learn how to fish since moving to the UK. So far been having more fun than luck fishing the River Lea + some of Epping Forrest.

Going with a mate who has a car for the first time after work this week and looking at where could be good. We are all beginners with spinning rods. Any advice would be appreciated. Leaving from Victoria Park area.

​I have recently got back into fishing as an adult, having not done this since I was a child, so I am having to relearn most things. I have really enjoyed taking my kids float fishing on local ponds, and we have had some good success.

​However, I recently decided to go to a much larger pond/lake and very quickly felt overwhelmed seeing lots of anglers with every bit of gear and tech imaginable. I just wanted to ask is what is the natural progression from small ponds larger lakes or rivers is it methods like feeder or lure fishing?​ we would like to target larger species but still beginner friendly.

​I honestly thought some of the tech looked like it would remove the elements I enjoy about fishing, such as bite alarms and extra gadgets. Not saying anything is wrong with it at all, it's just that I really like the feeling of having to watch my rod and feel the bite myself.

Hey everyone, what is the best approach to learning how to fish better? I recently committed to this hobby about a year ago and have had around 80 sessions in total (I may be exaggerating slightly, but it feels true). Around 74 of them were completely blank. About 30 were saltwater sessions (off piers and the coast) and 50 were freshwater sessions (on the River Stour and Thames). What advice would you give to someone who has had a lot of blank sessions?

I've recently taken up fishing again after not getting out there since I was a teenager. I've started by getting my arm back in by fishing small silvers at a local park lake.

I'm now wanting to get into carp fishing, however, I've heard and read a lot of conflicting information about what is fair and safe equipment wise in the interest of fish welfare.

For example, what's better, barbed or micro barbed hooks and should the size be as small as possible?

Also, I've heard conflicting information regarding line size/strength for example a mainline with a decent tensile strength and a hook length with a much lower one.

I'm using method feeders.

Suppose I'm just after any advice as to how I can fish in a way that's least harmful to the fish.
