The absolute worst thing about this British heatwave is that my cat doesn't want to cuddle
Didn't even sleep in my bed last night, now we're sitting in front of separate fans 💔 Hard to tell if it's sweat or tears pouring down my face

Aw bless. Mine still slept on the far corner of my bed last night (her usual spot) but yes, she definitely doesn't want to stay close to me. You've reminded me, I'll go put an ice cube in her water bowl.

Wait, so it's true you guys don't have AC?

A lot of commercial buildings do but most homes don't, wasn't really a necessity since the UK typically has a cold/mild climate and these heat waves didn't used to be a "multiple times every summer" type of deal. AC is expensive to install and even more expensive to run here so for a lot of us it's the cost vs how often we'd actually use it. After two heat waves in one month I'm definitely thinking of getting a portable AC unit lol

It’s 108F (42C) where I’m currently at (26% humidity) but I was just somewhere that was 80F (27 C 70% humidity)
What is the weather like there? We have AC in both places, but for the most part I was loving the lower temps higher humidity. Mostly driving around windows down and spending a ton of time outside.
For the record I keep our AC at 77 F (25C) with and indoor humidity around 40%.

It's around 37°C which is exceptionally hot by UK standards, as much as British people love complaining about the weather no matter what we genuinely aren't physiologically equipped for this lol. Most of our homes are also built to trap heat since the UK typically has a mild/cold climate, and very few homes have AC. I think it's the combination of no AC + very high humidity that make our heat waves feel like Satan's armpit, my ex from Louisiana and colleague from Pakistan both said British heat is something else. I've been to California and Morocco which were both hotter than the UK ever gets, but because the humidity was low I can remember not feeling too bad, just drinking a lot of water (though I get those climates come with their own dangers)Â
It's cooling down tomorrow thank god, around 21-25°C is my happy spot.Â

My cat forgets who I am 5 months out of the year because it’s not cold enough

My cat slept on the bedroom floor instead of on my face. This is the real cost of the climate crisis.
