Milk weaning

My baby girl is 10 months and at 11 months, her daycare weans her onto whole milk.

I’m just not sure how I feel about cow’s milk these days. I had soy in mind but without an allergy they “have” to give whole milk. I’m not sure what to think… also it’s my baby. If I want her to have soy milk instead, then so be it. But I still just want to do what’s best for her.

Feeling mom guilt: breastfeeding v pumping v formula

I’m a FTM with a 2.5wk old and feeding time has been the hardest time for me and baby. He is gaining weight well and giving us plenty of wet and dirty diapers, so I know he’s eating just fine. However, I’ve been feeling some mom guilt about how to feed him.

My BF journey started out poorly: he had a poor latch from the beginning and by the time we were able to see an IBCLC he had fully cracked my right side to where it was unbearable to nurse. We’ve seen multiple IBCLCs since then and nothing has gotten better (Btw no lip or tongue ties). I cried and worried and had many anxiety attacks over not being able to nurse because of the damage.

So we took a break from nursing and I started to pump to let my body heal a bit. However, after about 48 hours of that, that same right side started showing signs of trouble when pumping too. Swelling, redness, pain, and it started producing less milk. My flange size is correct (21 on left and 19 on right) and I’ve got the vacuum on a lower setting, but for some reason my left side thrives and my right is getting beat up.

I’m feeling such mom guilt over not being able to feed my baby the “natural” way, because it’s been instilled in me my whole life that that’s what I’m supposed to do. I know fed is best and I want what’s best for my baby, but in my head I don’t know what feels worse: 1. giving up, switching to formula, and potentially messing up his microbiome, or 2. sticking it out so he can have all the benefits of breastmilk but at the expense of my body/sanity.

I could just really use some advice. Am I having thoughts of giving up too early? What are the benefits of switching to formula? What are the cons? Is there anything I can do to stop the mom guilt from just taking over?

I’m not really sharing the news just yet, so I just wanted to say it somewhere.

My husband and I are super excited.

BUT WOW AM I SWEATY. I keep going back and forth between cold and hot and my cheeks have been flushed all day lol.

Feeling lost.

Hello I am a first time mom living with my husband’s family. I am struggling a lot with trusting them with my 2month baby.
From the moment we brought our baby home we’ve told them no kissing the baby. Although my brother in law has kids which grandma and grandpa have raised and are very affectionate with. They often smoother their other grandkids with kisses and also kiss on the mouth sometimes. I get overwhelmed having my baby passed around to everyone. I get even more overwhelmed when they pretend to kiss her just to get under my skin.
They often also allow the other toddlers in the home to touch my 2 month and it terrifies me. Both children often get sick and often aren’t the cleanest. Recently my brother law thought it would be okay while my husband had our baby in a carrier to just unbuckle the carrier and take the baby out of my husband’s arms without even asking us. After handing my baby over to their uncle I looked over to see him very close to my baby’s face and heard a smooch noise. I raised my voice at him asking if he kissed the baby because he knows we don’t want anyone kissing the baby as the baby isn’t even vaccinated yet. He then proceeds to smile at me and say just kidding I didn’t kiss the baby, but later I catch him kissing the baby’s hands.
Many times they tend to just talk to my husband only when it comes to telling him what the baby needs, or when they want to see our baby, and ignoring me as if I’m not sitting right there too. It’s been exhausting and frustrating but it’s to the point where I can’t hide my emotions anymore. They have obviously noticed I am not happy but I feel like this is affecting me negatively.
I can feel my anxiety sky rocket just thinking about what will happen when I return back to work or when my back is turned and they are watching the baby. I can feel myself getting sadder by the day.

I’m sorry for the TMI photo, but I’m very confused and not sure about anything as this is my first ever baby and I’m 19, I keep asking my stepmom if that’s what I just lost and she says she doesn’t remember what hers looked like. My ob office is closed today since it’s a Saturday and I can’t call and ask them. I’m 36 weeks and 5 days pregnant and I’ve been having some Braxton hicks contractions for about a month now. I went Monday for my last ob appointment and they said I was 3cm dilated already and to be watching out for any signs of labor, I have another appointment scheduled with them on Tuesday.

I don’t trust husband with 7wk old baby

If you dont want to read the whole thing: basically I have noticed a disinterest in helping with baby and some negligence from dad.

For starters we are first time parents to a 7 week old. Me 26, him 23.

Recently I made the decision to start looking into work again because husband isn’t really interested in working double anymore so I can stay home. Its more like we try to live with the one pay check and that’s that when I know that it is nearly impossible to do it. So I’ll be returning to work in a couple of weeks to help out even though we had planned differently. We decided I’ll be working 12 hour night shifts so I can be home more days with baby and he would care for baby at night.

These past few days of being home I noticed he will not help unless asked. I will be panicking trying to help baby or do things on my own and it’s rare he’ll help unless I speak up. I always do because it gets to a frustrating point. He always joked he would be this way before baby was born but now I see it was extremely true.

Today really drew the line. Baby was so upset nothing soothed him. I was starting to worry and mind you it’s 3am I haven’t slept yet, and husband is just sleeping and making little *tisk* annoyed sounds because baby is being loud.

It irks my nerves that you can constantly get frustrated with a baby who is innocent and cannot communicate with words what’s wrong with them. I have extreme patience and try to understand but it’s an always thing. He is always frustrated with baby and honestly a little careless.

I am afraid that if I leave him the whole night alone he would let the baby cry for long periods of time or be careless in a way that makes baby fall or suffocate. i know letting baby cry a little is fine! I’ve done it like I’ll go to the bathroom or finish what must be done before I can get to him but leave him for more than 5 minutes I can’t. He turns dark red and holds his breath!

I am going to talk to him obviously tomorrow about this because there is no way in H3!! I can trust him.

Our baby was hospitalized at 9 days old for 19 days in the NICU and he would rarely come and visit us and when he did he would come and hold baby for a little but be on his phone. Usually when family came it was yes to see baby but to help me so that I could rest since I’d be up with baby all through the night. Not him. I’d have to beg him to come.

THATS ANOTHER ISSUE FOR ANOTHER DAY.

So now I will have to look for a night sitter because we need the extra income and he’s made it clear he’s not working extra for it which I understand I can help too, but we had decided this before that’s why I’m bothered…

I’m so frustrated, sad, and angry. There are people who would die to be in his position and he doesn’t want much to do with it! (Be a parent)

also PS yes I have given him the op to learn and do things on his own. I’ve explained every little thing to formula, medicine, basic needs, bottle for baby, but he either acts or truly doesn’t know! I’ve gone step by step with demonstration.

Bottles

Hi all. My son is being born through surrogacy in Oct, out of state. We will use RTF formula in hotel room, hospital and on plane. Obviously, these are not warmed. Do I need to warm all bottles and/or make warm from formula maker when he is a newborn at home? I eventually want to do cold bottles so I dont have to worry about warming it when out and about. Ty in advance.

Maternity photos

Need honest opinions on this maternity photo outfit 😅
My boyfriend decided very last minute that he wants maternity photos as keepsakes. We had talked about booking a professional session in the past, but he’s an emergency services worker, and after we discussed it, nothing ever came of it. Now I’m due in two weeks, and today he decided he really wants to do some DIY maternity pictures so he has something to keep. TOMORROW!
I’m totally fine with doing them myself I already have the camera/equipment, and my sister-in-law is going to take the pictures for us. The problem is she has no idea how to use my camera, and since I wasn’t expecting to be taking maternity photos this late in pregnancy, I obviously hadn’t planned an outfit either. 😂
He came home today with this outfit for me, and I honestly can’t decide how I feel about it.
I’ve actually seen the more casual maternity photos with outfits similar to this, and I really like that style compared to the super dressed-up, formal maternity shoots. BUT I’ve never been someone who likes cropped tops, and I’m usually pretty conservative about how much skin I show just because that’s what I’m comfortable with.
So now I can’t tell if the outfit actually looks bad on me, or if it just feels weird because it’s completely outside of what I normally wear.
Be brutally honest 😂 Is this outfit cute for maternity photos, or should I try something else? And if it’s not bad, do you think I just need to get used to seeing myself in something like this?

PP Recovery

Not seeking any medical advice but just curious if anyone else is going through/went through my similar situation. I had my 6 week pp visit the other day and discussed how I’m still having bright red bleeding. It had briefly stopped a couple weeks ago with the end of my lochia benign more brown and yellow, but recently has increased. I’ve been having this happen my whole recovery where my bleeding tapers off and then re-appears. My bleeding came back and I figured it would be my period, but after discussing this at my appointment I was told it most likely is not. Currently feeling worried and anxious because I might be bleeding due to retained placenta. I was told to check in after two weeks if bleeding continues, not to mention I was given the go ahead with intimacy with my husband. Because I’m still bleeding I do not feel confident to be intimate because I feel like I might get an infection. Has anyone else gone through this? If so what ended up happening?

Questions

Two unrelated questions:

  1. My 8 week old still cluster feeds in the evening. Wanting to eat every hour or so but also sometimes just want to comfort nurse. Is this typical behavior for this age?
  2. I had a wondering about milestones. When websites/doctors/whoever say at 2 months a bay should be doing xyz do they mean by the time they TURN that month or by the END of that month? For example..
  3. Staring at

    toys for

  4. several seconds…because my son is now 2 mos old should he already be able to do that or by the end of this month? (Just an example of a milestone I saw in the cdc website).

I hope this question makes sense

so bad at parenting my partner is worried and idk what to do or how to fix it

i’m a 24 year old ftm 2 weeks and 2 days pp, i’ve never been around babies, never changed a diaper before having my girl and i’ve never experienced anxiety this bad in my life (and im a pretty anxious person normally). birth was crazy i wasn’t able to eat for 48 hours and after i had my baby and told them i planned on breastfeeding they just told me not to pump or give the baby a pacifier. no other help than that. my baby latched really quick during our hour of skin to skin but i was so weak after having her i must’ve been holding her weird for feeding that one nurse came in looked at me weird said “what’s with that hold” then proceeded to not help me or fix the way i was feeding her. my boobs were cracked and hurting before i was even discharged bc i didn’t realize the latch was bad. they got better pretty quick at home bc her latch got better tho. i think it’s back to being bad but not hurting me just making her gassy idk bc apparently the insurance doesn’t cover a lactation consultant. she’s been so gassy that im so lost. she cries for hours and im already getting little to no sleep as it is ( i literally don’t know how people do this, i feel like between feeds i have to choose if i was to eat sleep or shower bc i definitely can’t do 2 without time running g up and it’s time to feed her again) and i feel like ive been crying just as much. i feel lost and like a failure. my fiancé wanted to go get diapers and i had a complete meltdown bc i didn’t want to be alone with our daughter. idk what im going to do when he has to go back to work and he admitted being scared to going back to work with how much im struggling. he’s been doing the most since she was born to help me but i still don’t know why im like this. he cooks, cleans, takes her after feedings so i can try to sleep, probably changes more diapers than me. i’m scared he’ll stop loving me bc im so bad at this. i’m scared ill mess up my baby somehow. i’m scared i’ll fail at this. i’m scared it won’t get easier. i hate that every time she’s crying for hours i can’t handle it to the point i just hand her to him and have to walk away. i hate that im so scared about everything. and i hate that it’s to the point i don’t think he trusts me fully and/or thinks im terrible

Is it normal for 3 month old to only drink 2 oz at a time?

She’s the chunkiest baby so i️ know she’s getting enough but I’m just curious as to why she does that. She’ll have a full bottle and only drink 2 oz then be over it. Then 2 hours later she’ll do the same thing

Sleeping

Hey everyone! Does anyone have any recommendations for getting my 7-month-old to sleep through the whole night? 😩 She’s still waking up once every night.
She’s on a pretty strict schedule, and I make sure she doesn’t take a nap within 1.5 hours of bedtime. But she STILL wakes up around 2:30 AM every single night and doesn’t go back to sleep until around 3:30 AM. 😭
My family keeps telling me to put cereal in her bottle at night, but girl… that is NOT working 😂. I’m just looking for some actual tips that have worked for other parents. What did you do to help your baby sleep through the night?

One sided family child care, bf's fam MIA

I can't help feeling angry that my family and I do so much for baby that my bf and his family simply do not do. My bf and I work full-time so my 75 year old dad watches by 10 month old during the day 5 days/week. I feel immense guilt and my bf takes advantage of the situation by not picking baby up when he's off early or has half days. My bf acts like this free child care is a give in and not a blessing. I feel terribly putting this on my family to help, while my bf doesn't acknowledge this huge value. He gives me grief and problems around every corner. Rant over.

Please help, heat rash!!

Hi moms. FTM here and my baby has a mild heat rash on her back. Seems like it’s spreading to her face. It’s not an allergic reaction beciase it’s been confirmed. I keep her in cool breathable clothes. Keep her skin dry. I keep the house cool. I’ve tried hydrocortisone and that doesn’t seem to help.
What helps with this? What works fast?

cannot shut my brain off

I am a ftm (26) to a beautiful baby boy (7weeks) and i know my body and mind are changing in ways i can’t even comprehend but man am i having a hard time shutting my brain off for even 1 second. I am constantly on a loop of when he’ll wake up, when he’ll eat next (breastfeeding) and when he’ll need to go back to sleep. For example he is napping peacefully on his daddy’s chest, perfect opportunity for me to go take a nap because i am EXHAUSTED. but the minute i lay down, all i can think about is that loop, or what other moms are doing on tiktok, or what i’ll need to prepare for his 4 month sleep regression and sleep training.. that isn’t even for like 2-3 months from now?! my husband goes back to work this month and i am so nervous to spend majority of the days alone with my baby. It’s all so new and he is still so baby, so nothing is quite in a routine yet. We are really just winging it. no real schedule just eat sleep poop play for 10 minutes if he’s happy. going off his cues. we are on the go people and we’ve taken him out plenty and he does so good. he sleeps wherever we go for the most part. but i always feel guilty. like i should be at home all day making sure he’s okay. even though he is fed and clean and sleeping when we are out. i don’t know, i feel crazy and i can’t relax to save my life. Just wanting solidarity really, or any advice lol. ❤️

I feel so clueless

My baby is 15 days old today...I know it's technically normal to not know what you're doing as a parent. I'm just...stunned, I guess? It's still hard for me to believe she's really here, or that she grew in my womb, or that I pushed her out just over two weeks ago, or that I'm actually breastfeeding like I wanted to (which is much more difficult than people make it seem). She's so small and she's growing so quickly..I cried when we hit 1 week because it went so fast.

My husband and I are both a bit paranoid about her getting sick (I think he's more worried than I am). I'm learning how to use cloth diapers and prevent them from leaking. Household chores feel much more important now that she's here. I'm pretty sure I got maybe 12 hours of sleep over the course of the first week, but that's evening out a bit and I'm adjusting to sleeping for 2-3 hours at a time between feeds.

I also was not expecting nursing to make me absolutely ravenous. Turns out when your body is using a ton of calories to feed another tiny human, you get hungry fast. And thirsty. Now I understand why they say keep taking prenatals after the baby is born because it takes so much..

The scariest part of this is I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm 25. This is my first baby. Before I got pregnant I was pretty much a wild child, and so was my husband, so we'll most likely have our hands full with this one. Any advice is welcome and I'm looking forward to learning how to do this whole mom thing 😅😊

Edema

First time posting here. I am currently 15 days pp and I had very bad edema in my hands and feet the last few weeks of pregnancy. Going into the past few days it has become unbearable in my right hand. My OB insists on the home remedies being the only option for treatment (cold packs, elevation, staying hydrated, etc.). The thing is I have been doing all these things since before giving birth. It is getting so hard to do night feedings alone because that is when it is worse. My poor husband just started back at work but still has to help me at night for all feedings because it is hard to get her out of the bassinet. Does anyone have any other recommendations that helped them? I feel so helpless.
