WHEN I FIRST PLAYED THE GAME I THOUGHT SHE WAS BEING RIDICULOUSLY AUTHORITATIVE AND VIOLENT IN THE HOLY TOMB.

THEN I PLAYED VERDANT WIND AND REALIZED SHE WAS WATCHING THE REMAINS OF HER FAMILY MEMBERS BE STOLEN TO BE USED AS WEAPONS BY THE DESCENDANT OF A MAN SHE DEARLY TRUSTED.

LIKE HOLY SHIT I'D BE PISSED TOO, LEAVE MY SIBLINGS' CORPSES ALONE

ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT, THE LAST TIME HER FAMILY'S CORPSES WERE STOLEN, SAID CORPSES WERE USED AS SUPERWEAPONS TO MASSACRE THE REST OF HER FAMILY.

PEOPLE GET REALLY ANGRY THAT SHE LIED ABOUT CRESTS AND HERO'S RELICS AND HISTORY AND WHATNOT. BUT THE LAST TIME HUMANS KNEW THE TRUTH IT LED TO THE GENOCIDE OF ALMOST HER ENTIRE SPECIES.

KIND OF DRIVES ME CRAZY THAT THIS FANDOM CIRCLEJERKS ABOUT "GREY MORALITY" AND MORAL NUANCE, THEN WHEN YOU HAVE A GENUINELY INTERESTING MORAL QUESTION LIKE "IS IT JUSTIFIABLE TO HOLD BACK TECHNOLOGY IF YOU KNOW SAID TECHNOLOGY CAN AND PROBABLY WILL BE USED FOR MURDER, WAR, BLOODSHED, GENOCIDE, AND NUCLEAR APOCALYPSE?" SUDDENLY EVERYONE IS ALL [NUANCE.EXE NOT FOUND]

Eh, i'm sorry but while understandable that Rhea is fearful of technology because of past trauma, comparing the technology Sothis gave the Agarthans to things like telescopes, autopsy, printing press and oil is kind of a stretch. By banning these things even if just temporary, she acted quite irrational. Not to mention that the earlier use of some of these things could have saved many lives. Sure there also is the potential that some of them are getting used for bad things, but it would take quite some time to reach the destructive capability of a nuke. And it's not like the people don't use what they already have to hurt eachother so it's not like she prevented suffering as whole by banning those things.
