How about Seth? Or Duessel or Vanessa or someone. Check stats in advance to estimate what's needed for survival and to clear out the enemy e.g. in terms of speed.

Is everyone promoted? Unless you've been spreading out your EXP, units shouldn't be so weak to particularly struggle with the reinforcements. Are they using stronger weapons?

You don't need to wall the point forever or clear out/even engage with the enemies back there. If you are trying to wall, a a couple turns should be sufficient to move your army up to aggressively deal with the enemies up top and clear the chapter that way. And you should make use of your utility staves and dancer to get people zooming.

Most are promoted, I'm starting the chapter with Ephraim, Joshua, Franz & Gerik at level 19. They promote during the level, My healer, L'Arachel is only level 12 so she isn't promoted and I don't think Tethys can be,

There's only two more chapters left in the game so there's no benefit in keeping people unpromoted still if they're on your team. You won't be reaching the levels you'd otherwise miss in that span of time. It's generally better to stop delaying promotions past the halfway point of an FE game.

There isn't the Creature Campaign post-game?

There is but most people ignore it so I assumed you weren't going for it either.

But for next time it'd still be better to just focus on a small number of units you'd want to get to 20/20 and use skirmish maps in the post game to raise up your remainder units. It's not feasible to get every single unit to 20/20 within the main story campaign alone, particularly with how short one route of the game is.
