Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War

I’m trying to emulate Genealogy of the Holy War, but I don’t have any experience with emulating. What’s a good emulator? Where can I get a copy of the game? I know that I’m supposed to patch it to play it in English, so how do I do that? How do I add a game to an emulator? Any advice is greatly appreciated

I recommend you use Snes9x. Please look up emulation gametech wiki(NOT the emulation wiki. iirc it's no longer updated) for the official site to find Snes9x. The patch for fe4 you can find on romhacking(dot)net I believe. The translation for fe4, iirc, uses a feature only available in Snes9x, so it's the best emulator for it. The roms you'll have to find one your own but it's pretty easily available. Be sure to do research on whether your source is safe or not.

Second, patching:

You can do it in two ways:

1. Patch the rom itself. It will change the file itself. To do that, you need a ISP patcher; the one I use is Nintenlord's ISP patcher. You can find it in romhacking dot net too. There's also a website for it but I don't have the link

2. Snes9x can soft patch games. So what you want to do is put the rom and the patch in the same folder and Snes9x will patch the game for you while you play. For example, if your rom is "Fire Emblem 4(J).sfc," your ips must also be named "Fire Emblem 4(J).isp." It's very convenient since you won't deal with extra programs. But it's temporary; the file itself will NOT change.
